Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 32 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 Well I begin this article in a different state of mind this week, one of someone writing an article with a fair idea of what he is talking about. Well my captain didn’t totally bomb last week in other words. I backed Eden Hazard. Now, those of you expecting a follow-up to last week’s excellent captains article by Lawdogg, I’m afraid I’m going to let you down early here. The pressure is too much and that last effort was far too clever for me to compete with. Lawdogg – you clearly have too much time on your hands, you are too clever for us or you employ a fantastic team of writers you charlatan! It might be all three in fact. I also don’t rap like Cookie. No-one raps like Cookie though. I’ll rather predictably...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 36 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 Has it really been a month? Did I really lose the Post-It note? Did I really wait until the last minute to write this introduction? Yes, maybe, and … anyone else having a sense of deja vu? Yes, it’s only been a week since you last attempted to make sense of my gentle musings but I’m back again as what us Yanks call a “pinch hitter” in baseball. I’m the 89th minute substitution for a team winning 1-0 that’s hoping to run out the clock. And right about now I’m starting to feel less honored about being asked to fill in this week… Fill in you say? That’s right. I’m filling in for Chins, who offered to fill in for GP, before the two of them ran off...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 35 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 Has it really been a month? Did I really lose the Post-It note? Did I really wait until the last minute to write this introduction? Yes, maybe, and of course not! It would be incredibly irresponsible to put off writing the introduction until after you’ve received several messages wondering where this article is. And who would publicly admit to doing such a mad thing? Certainly not me. Nope. I sat down and began the laborious write and re-write process (so many empty red pens!) for this introduction shortly after submitting my last captain article. No sense in waiting until the last minute. That’s the kind of thing which produces a rambling, nonsensical opening that results in the reader abandoning the introd...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 34 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 Midnight, Monday April 20th. That was the deadline to register to vote for this year’s UK general election. May 7th will afford the disenchanted millions the glorious choice of choosing which corporation-funded puppet will drag a great nation further into the ecological, economic abyss; screaming promises of change from the rooftops while scheming furtively to maintain the wealthy elite’s capitalist status quo. People need a vote that counts… right? (“Right!”) A vote that affects them personally… right? (“RIGHT!”) Well, tear up that ballot paper; kick over that polling booth and cast your eyes over this week’s list of captain candidates. Your team needs Y...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 33 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 3 game ban for a straight red card. 10 game ban for Suarez after he racially abused Evra. 11 game ban for Di Canio after he pushed over a referee. A 20 week ban? You’d have to do something really bad for that. Surely? Nope. That’s how long my ban was from FF247 after I tipped Joey Barton in my last Captain’s article, all the way back in Gameweek 13! Honestly, you wouldn’t believe the fuss that caused! Let me take you back to that fateful day… It was just another normal Tuesday morning on FF247.co.uk. The site was buzzing. Regulars were chatting about their weekend’s points totals. Some were happy. Some were sad. Some were annoyed that they only scored 118 points. There were Monkey pictures. There were puns. ...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 31 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 Welcome back to the Premier League Season. It seems as if it’s been ages since a league ball was last kicked but we have finally put the international break behind us. For fantasy managers and team managers alike this is very much crunch time. The hard work put in throughout the long season can be wrecked if you fail to get it right in the run in to season’s end. Did your players make it through the break? Did they manage to make it through airport security without sustaining radiation poisoning from the screening process? Did your favourite player go broke paying the ridiculous fees associated with travel on American Airlines flights? Did Obafemi Martins’ injury ruin what would have otherwise been a great w...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 30 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 According to French satirist Alphonse Karr’s famous epigram, ‘the more things change, the more they stay the same’. Chelsea, reunited with Jose, are barely within sight now at the Premier League summit. Sunderland, 18 months on from ousting Di Canio, once more find themselves destabilized by restless natives and managerial upheaval. Newcastle parted with the much maligned Pardew but have, if anything, seen their fortunes deteriorate yet further. QPR, a couple of years on from being relegated by a sorry collective of journeymen and overpaid mercenaries, are… well, one gets the idea. It’s no different in the FPL world. A small, select band of weekly captain candidates have emerged...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 29 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 GW28 was probably the easiest Captain decision ever, hence the lack of excitement on the final day of the DGW when Harry Kane notched twice vs QPR. GW29 is very different with there not being one outstanding candidate as per last week. On paper, we assume that most of the conservative managers will lean towards the Arsenal or Man City contingent as the Gunners entertain an out of form West Ham at the Emirates, while City travel the short distance to Burnley, who seem incapable of keeping a clean sheet. So there will be obvious calls for the likes of Aguero, Alexis, Silva and Giroud, all of whom will feature in this week’s article, but this week may just be the week for a gamble, especially if you are chasing...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 28 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 Just when you were still agonising and dissecting GW27 and had thoughts of spending days planning your next move, stop right there! GW28 starts on Tuesday, yep it’s another quick turnaround for us Fantasy addicts. Truly no rest for the wicked. Now I don’t know if you have heard but GW28 is actually DGW28 (*quiz show style ‘Wooooooo’*). Traditionally this sees us FPL managers purr at the delight of a huge weekly score. However, DGW28 only sees two sides playing twice, namely QPR and Spurs, so the opportunity for a blockbuster score may be limited, but one lives in hope with many pinning there captaincy badge on the obvious Harry Kane. But there are other candidates for the brave and those looking to go ...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 27 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 Hello friends and welcome to your Captains Article for GW27. Now this article relates to the original fantasy football EPL game. You remember that one? We used to love this in the days before we were distracted by the UEFA Champions League and Europa League fantasy games, all those substitutions and captaincy changes strewn over the course of nine days for the former or four hours in the case of the latter. MLS fantasy is starting back up which a lot of us enjoy greatly – only the Americans can come up with a game where price changes are based upon your performance in one game, providing you play 45 minutes at least of course, such as is their fascination with fast-paced gaming and basically being a bit diff...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 24 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 On any normal transfer deadline day nothing would have trumped Carlisle United’s procurement of Nathan Buddle from Blyth Spartans. But like a crossbar shuddering from a Geoff Hurst thunderbolt, the football world is still reverberating from the impact of Monday’s biggest story; Man Utd’s signing of defender Andy Kellet on loan from Bolton. When asked whether he’d still retain his 3-5-2 formation in light of this capture, Louis van Gaal mumbled, “But of course. We are in a bad moment like Queens Park Raisins. Kellet will make the youth team strong. This is football.” If you went for Harry Kane as captain last week, one of Calvin Clyne’s tips, you’ll have been re...[Read More]
Captains Picks Fantasy Football Gameweek 25 – Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 Gameweek 24 was a mixed bag for captaincy candidates. Walcott returned a one point cameo from the bench; Silva left empty-handed; while teammate Aguero contributed a paltry 5 points. Eden Hazard continued his march up the scoring charts with a handsome 10 points. Once more, however, the limelight was stolen by Harry Kane who, for those ‘punks’ who were ‘feeling lucky’ accrued double digits for the second consecutive game. This week throws up a few, how to put this, potentially less balanced fixtures. But then, that was said about Man City vs Hull City, so who really knows what will happen? With Man Utd and Arsenal having irresistible home fixtures, can Fantasy Football managers afford...[Read More]
