Hull 0-2 Chelsea With the opportunity to go top of the league overnight Chelsea were always going to be a handful for Hull, however the home side have been very solid at at the KC so it was never going to be plain sailing for the Blues. Chelsea worked very hard in the first half but were unable to break the deadlock. They had to wait till the 56th minute when Eden Hazard fired them ahead with a stunning goal from the edge of the penalty area after he had avoided a few vein Hull challenges as he weaved his magic after Ashley Cole’s deft flick to Hazard, to claim the assist. The three points were then wrapped up late on as in form striker Fernando Torres (thatās two in two, anyway!) netted for the Blues withĀ Willian claiming the assist. The victoryĀ sent Chelsea top of the table, at lea...[Read More]
Aston Villa 0-0 Sunderland Prince William was in attendance this afternoon, as he made his first ever visit to Villa Park, but even he could not influence this dour encounter. SunderlandāsEmanuele Giaccherini wasted the chance to be king for the day and will need a royal pardon from manager Gus Poyet for an awful miss in the first half. This was far from a royal performance as the home side struggled against a team who have been woeful on their travels and it proved to be a forgettable experience for the Duke of Cambridge as Christian Benteke produced another anonymous performance and has now gone six games without scoring, cheers greeted his substitution four minutes from time. Benteke had gone close in the 34th minute,Karim El Ahmadi pulled the ball back for Ashley Westwood and he laid a...[Read More]
Everton 3-3 Liverpool Saturdayās early kick off saw the 221st meeting in all competitions for the Merseyside clubās with Roberto Martinez looking to mastermind Everton’s 1st derby win in the Premier League since October 2010. With Daniel Sturridge on the bench for Liverpool the Reds were banking on a performance from Luis Suarez in this often volatile fixture and it took just 5 minutes for him to provide the assist for Philippe Coutinho to open the scoring. Just 3 minutes later and it was all square when Leighton Baines whipped in a free-kick and Kevin Mirallas fired past Simon Mignolet. With Everton forcing the play a needless foul on Suarez by Gareth Barry was severely punished by the Uruguayan with a rasping 25 yard scorcher. Mirallas was fortunate to stay on the pitch with what l...[Read More]
Manchester City 6-3 Arsenal What a way to start off the weekend! Words cannot really describe to you what on earth went on in those 90 minutes at the Etihad yesterday but we will try our best to put it into words for you. From a corner kick, Sergio Aguero gave Manchester City the lead after a flick on by Martin Demichelis was volleyed in brilliantly at the far post. On the half hour mark the return of Theo Walcott for Arsenal saw him grab his first of the game when a rather tame shot trickled past Pantilimon in goal. Perhaps a slight deflection off a City defender could have been the reason for the keeper not moving at all. Alvaro Negredo then put the hosts back into the lead after finishing off a cross from Pablo Zabaleta. Between that goal and City’s third, fantasy managers are lef...[Read More]
Manchester United 0-1 Newcastle With both teams coming off losses from the midweek matches, this was a good opportunity to bounce back quickly, even more so for David Moyes and Manchester United in front of their home supporters. It was a tight first half and some might say that the Toon maybe edged it but alas it was still goalless at the break and the only interesting thing was the booking of Yohan Cabaye which means he misses the next game. After the break it was a different story. Patrice Evra failed to clear a long ball and it fell into the path of Moussa Sissoko, who then ran the by line and passed the ball into the path of the booked Cabaye who slotted the ball neatly into the corner to put Newcastle one up. Unfortunately for United, that is how this game finished up, and to be hone...[Read More]
Aston Villa 2-0 Cardiff A spectacular free-kick from Leandro Bacuna saw Aston Villa end their goal drought against a tough Cardiff City outfit. Villa had gone seven-and-a-half hours without finding the net before the Dutch winger’s effort. Villa also kept their first home clean sheet for 16 games as Cardiff were brought back down to earth following their derby win over Swansea. It wasnāt all plain sailing at Villa Park though – there was a growing sense of disquiet in the stands as the clock ticked away on Villaās wait for a goal. David Marshall, the Cardiff goalkeeper, produced 3 outstanding saves from Karim El Ahmadi, Yacouba Sylla and Christian Benteke in a frantic opening. The boos at half-time are becoming a regular occurrence at Villa Park but Bacuna lifted the game ̵...[Read More]
