Welcome to FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 5

Hello everyone and welcome to the gameweek AND the second FNF (Friday Night Football) of the season!

Shortly we begin with Newcastle United v Leeds United which our very own Rosco will be attending assuming he is still allowed onto the Gallowgate following his questionable behaviour surrounding CR7 and his ‘beloved’ Toon last Saturday. Kidding, that man is a pro and he had his FPL business head on and let’s face it, until Newcastle are taken over we’re all allowed to be fed up by the Geordies!

Saturday starts with Wolves v Brentford at lunchtime which will hopefully be a good watch as warm up to four 3pm kick offs with Burnley *cough* welcoming Arteta’s Arsenal to Turf Moor, Liverpool playing Palace at Anfield, Manchester City hosting Southampton at Eastlands and Watford officially being able to use their away kit correctly as they head to East Anglia to tangle with Norwich.

Aston Villa v Everton should make for a decent game on Saturday at 5.30pm.

Due to European involvement we have the three Thursday teams playing on Sunday this week and in fact, they will be for a number of their weekends until December – they had better get used to it!

Firstly, at 2pm we’re at the Amex Stadium as Brighton entertain Leicester fresh from them facing Napoli whilst simultaneously, West Ham United – who will have been in Croatia – come home to face Ronaldo, Bruno, Mason etc etc etc. Tough.

At 4.30pm, Europa Conference League flag-bearers Spurs hop back from across the channel having played Rennes, come home to face Lukaku, Havertz, Mount etc etc etc. Double Tough.

The games in full…

Keep track of all the action, the goals, the talking points, right here at FF247 Live Match Chat, an interactive chat which encourages you to keep involved and share your thoughts and emotions as the matches take place.

Good luck to absolutely everyone for Gameweek 5 from all at FF247!

Thanks for reading FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 5.

  1. Wow… Leeds defense is horrible… Ayling is so lucky that I have other things to worry about and is usually only making my bench.. Well not this week as Antonio was well,,,,, unavailable.

    • Kushan, you didn’t expect anything else, did you?
Newcastle are known to surprise many bigger teams at home (not that Leeds is one of them). They were aiming for that point and got it after all smile

      • Well was hoping Leeds would keep a CS against Wilsonless NEW.. Anyway already took a -4 to bring Ronaldo in so couldn’t do anything about it. Looks like Ayling will be in the team until a WC. And yeah, completely agree with Newcastle surprising teams. They might not win much, but do score quite a bit.

  2. ASM last night. Just like I said in the article, he’s always worth watching.

Rosco will hate me for this (but he’ll understand), but that player deserves a lot better than Newcastle. At least in their current flux.

    • He’s box office I’d still generally question his end product which should be a lot more. Similar to Traore in that way

      • I would never expect him to get 20 a season no but he has a skillset there that terrifies defenders. Harnessed properly he can bring an awful lot to a side I think.

And his goal last night I could have seen going in the Leazes had Traore found himself with it! search

    • I do wonder if he’s one of these players if he’s great when he’s a big fish in a small pond. Obviously, we’ll never know unless he takes a step up!

      • That is something I thought of too Kop. He’s guaranteed to play with Newcastle but you think if he does step up, he gets lost in rotation somewhere which I don’t think he’d adapt well to.

  3. Raphinha sorry

    • I’ll pop hi 1st on my bench and hope it’s just a short term thing. Westham next too.
It’s the 4 games after I’d want him for

    • I just got in raphinha for injured son. Now raphinha possibly injured? Amd ayling too i have. Not able to plan transfers without a hit bcoz of these injuries.

      • Atleast quite happy with the 8pts he got.

      • In some ways that injury is serendipitous for my team structure. It sometimes happens that way.

Rather than replacing him I’ll be looking to shift the money into my defence – possibly doubling on the Chelsea defence. There seems much better value in defence rather than fretting about cheapo midfielders. But we’ll see.

      • You don’t need to hit Reg. With Antonio back, you bench will be strong enough to ride it out even if Ben also appears on the yellow list.

  4. Who is the better option of rudiger and james? I know james is more explosive but will he be rotated with Hudson odoi as right wing back? Ruediger is more safe but rarely scores.
Want to downgrade ayling to a 4.0 to upgrade reguilon to rudiger or james after gw6.
If james doesnt occasionally start there are chances he comes for a 1 point cameo? Tough choice here.

    • I’ve taken a risk with James – hopefully not too much of a risk – and am monitoring Chilwell / others in that defence as I’m thinking of Lukaku plus two Chelsea defenders for their good run. Also monitoring Mount, just in case I go that way.

  5. I have been struggling this season with the amount of players out through covid, injury, suspension. Anyone else finding the same? For example I’ve had the below, seems more than you might expect.
Bertrand, Veltman, Omo, Son, Harrison, Antonio, Dier (TBC), Ben (TBC).

    • Yes me too and I don’t think it will get any easier into November and December. I’ve locked my WC away but it’s really fighting hard to be played.
