Euro 2016 Fantasy Football Live Match Chat – The Knockout Phase

Euro 2016 Fantasy FootballJust as the UK votes on a possible Brexit, the group stages at Euro 2016 have been completed with some unfortunates already on their way home, while all the Home Nations secured to Remain for a while longer as England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all qualified for the round of 16. You will notice a few changes to the fantasy game, so please allow us to run you through them so you are fully up-to-speed.
Price changes – some players price has increased, but only by a minimal amount it would appear. For example Dimitri Payet’s price has risen from 8.0mln to 8.1mln!! So, nothing to get too worried about.
As a result, your budget has increased by 5mln to 105mln, which not only reflects the price changes but also the fact that most of the smaller teams and cheaper players are no longer available due to them being knocked out, hence there are less budget options available.

Transfers – for this round you have an unlimited amount of transfers. For the quarter-finals you will have 4 free transfers, for the semi-finals you will have 6 free transfers and for the final you will have 6 free transfers.

Team personnel – you can now select four players from a single team for the round of 16, followed by five players for the quarter-finals, six for the semi-finals and eight for the final.

Man, this whole let the 4 best numbers 3 progress to the next round has killed the schedule and the tournament. It’s a bloody joke. Hope they everturn this shit, and don’t let so many countries enter the next tournament. The setup is a complete failure.

      DMC says:

Well, the more teams the better, me thinks. They should aim for 32 teams with 8 groups though (like WC) and not this best 3rd place teams, etc., I agree.
I heard they already said they were keeping it like this for the next one but in such case they should at least do something about the last gw of the groups stages.
It’s just not fair that teams with a chance to progress are not playing at the same time, as the Albanians pointed out.

      • Raziel says:

Of course you think that, haha. Without this new rule Portugal wouldn’t even have reached the next round right? 😉

Apart from it not being fair to the number 3’s that played earlier, I also think it sucks a team like Italy tops Belgium and everybody and gets to face a very hard team and not a number 3 ranked team. I don’t know, from a neutral point of view this tournament was just shite! The football and the setup. Sadly now even Germany didn’t reach the final, they were much better.

Only thing I really liked about this tournament were Iceland and Wales.

Anyway, on a positive note, the FPL season will start again in a few months. laugh

        • DMC says:

Raz, you don’t know that. After coming back 3 times against Hungary in the last game (in which they scored two unfreakinglybelievable deflected free kicks), we stopped searching for the winner on the 75th min (and they stopped going forward too) because we knew that result suited us. If it didn’t, we would have gone for it and there’s no way you can say here and now that we wouldn’t get it.
Also, I just said I don’t like the system with 3rd best progressing so my comment had nothing to do with Portugal going through on that rule in this instance.
Do give me some credit mate; my bias for Portugal may affect (in a little way, of course! ?) my game analysis / prediction (which it hasn’t actually) but I wouldn’t be commenting on competition formats in terms of what helped or prejudiced my country…

        • Raziel says:

I give Portugal the credit they made it to the finals, drawing 5 times after 90 minutes. Has to be a record. 😉

Problem with Portugal started at the beginning of the tournament with Ronaldo completely discredited Iceland, while after 6 games they are probably known for the I don’t want to lose type of football. I know it’s bs, but this type of shit makes me not like a player.

As for the final. It’s all cool, both can win. 😉 I don’t think Portugal has won a tournment ever, right? I know from people that are in Portugal that it really lives there, so the people I like, just not the team of players. HAHA! :p Same with France though, they’re super arrogant. laugh

Anyway, good luck next Saturday. smile

        • DMC says:

          Cheers mate.
We’re happy to win it out of triumphant draws!
As for the rest, well, we shouldn’t mix a given player with his country. If everyone in our country was so focused as he is in his job we would be a much better country.
Also, people highlight too much what Ronaldo says, but I guess that’s the price you pay for admittedly stating you want to be/you think you are the best, etc. that being said, Iceland’s style of play is similar to WBA’s, with the difference that, unlike WBA, they can’t even exchange two passes without losing the ball. That’s what I saw from our game with them anyway.
You are right; we never won a major tournament at senior level (we have two U-21 WC). Our records say: two WC semis (66 and 2006) and two euro finals (2004, losing at home to Greece :noshake: , and now)!
Here’s hope we can surprise people with … a winning draw! :smiling:

      Kop Warrior says:

Now that they’ve expanded the competition I doubt they will reduce the numbers. I do agree that having 3rd place teams qualify is a bit silly. The problem they face is to stop 3rd place teams progressing they will need to increase it to 32 teams and this would dilute the quality even further!!

      • Raziel says:

As a neutral viewer it was shite but I guess if your country is still in it, it doesn’t matter. 😉

        • Kop Warrior says:

It has nothing to do with a country being in it. I agree that 3rd place teams shouldn’t progress which would have meant Ireland not making the 2nd round and I also agree that 24 teams is too many, had it been 16 Ireland wouldn’t have made it.

        • DMC says:

All fair points Kop, but it wouldn’t dilute the quality much further than having Saudi Arabia or Honduras in the WC.
Plus, Holland would have a chance to qualify!! :smiling:

        • Raziel says:

Shrugs, with the current coach we have we won’t be competing in any tournament. That’s alright though. You have to know your place. laugh

These tournaments are way more fun without us anyway. We might have reached a WC final and won the 3rd place in the next WC. For Dutch terms we really played unlike the Dutch, we also used to have much better players in the past. How Germany lost versus France, was a little bit of the old style of the Dutch losing matches, that and with penalty shootouts. laugh

Nope, I think I might support Luxembourg from now on, they have a real talented team. And at least there are always loads of goals in their games. laugh

        • DMC says:

You know how this goes with Holland; they combine periods of good football/good results with periods of absence. They will be back and when they do they will win games and hopefully entertain people. I’m a fan but I agree with you that the last few years it was a bit uncharacteristic from you guys, despite having good WC results. A bit like Portugal is doing this term, in a way. Let’s hope our story ends even better than your 2010 and 14 WCs!

      • I agree with Kop and Raz insomuch as the third spot in four of the six groups qualifying makes a bit of a mockery of the group stage.

For me it’s back to sixteen (which won’t happen) or up to 32. In this case which eight who didn’t qualify would have added to the quality of the tournament?

Thought I would do the match report by halves because there will probably be a whole new XI for the 2nd 45 mins so here goes:

Liverpool vs Tranmere preseason friendly 1st half:

No goals to report as of yet but it’s been an attacking first half. Liverpool youngsters have looked very sharp and energetic for the first game back, probably down to the fact that most need to impress before the Euro boys return.

Karius- Untested basically just stuck in there to look pretty
Flanagan- steady performance from him. Intelligent tackling and getting forward well.
Matip- going forward for setpieces but has been quiet for most of the game, when on the ball mostly calm but odd time can play a sloppy pass. Decent debut for a bystander
Lovren- going forward for setpieces as well. Has been making get tackles the odd time Tranmere do counter attack has been decent today.
Smith- Looked very sharp, bombing down the left and playing in a lot of crosses, possibly falling into the same thing Moreno does in that he gets forward but then leaves too much space in behind him for Tranmere to exploit.
Lucas- Been doing the business and showing his experience
Brannagan- Impressive, showing good vision and making some brilliant through balls for Mane, Kent to run onto.
Ejaria-Very impressed by this ex-Arsenal youngster, tall but fast and has some quick feet. He looked very comfortable on the ball and was looking to set up plays and involved in a lot of attacks. Draws a lot of fouls from opposition players.
Mane- Getting in behind the Tranmere backline and making nice passes and linking up well with Firmino
Kent- Linking up well with others and getting some shots off but himself and Smith on the left are attacking at the same time so the whole left side is empty so needs to work on that but he’s only young
Firmino- Off the boil in the first half, when he gets a chance tries to be too flashy and it doesnt help but he is linking up well with Mane.

    Now for the second half!!

      MattX says:

      Second half analysis:

I felt it was a considerable drop in pace to the 1st half and not as attacking yet it was the half they scored in!! Logic meet window laugh Probably should have been more goals with Markovic missing two glorious chances one of them an open goal that he hit the post instead.

Bogdan- Bystander!! I think he touched the ball once and that was when it was passed back to him.
Randall- Got forward really well, Was probably Liverpool’s most attacking player in the second half and was the main outlet for them.
Ilori-Quiet didn’t have much to do, if anything
Wisdom- Much the same as Ilori did show good strength to muscle lads of the ball though
Moreno- Seems to have grown a ponytail during the holidays so he must want to be the new Andy Carroll, had a decent night did what he does normally
Chirivella- Thought he was very quiet but not much to do in the 2nd half so maybe that’s why I didn’t notice him much.
Stewart- Made some tidy passes, really controlled the pace of the game I feel, showed some good vision when picking long diagonal balls to Randall.
Alexander-Arnold- Made some nice runs at players to push them back, seems like a confident lad and made a nice charging run which set up the goal just before he laid in a nice pass for Ings
Markovic-Sell him fast!! In my opinion he was poor and missed 2 great opportunities that won’t help his first team chances.
Woodburn- Looked decent on the left and didn’t have too many chances but was unlucky when he had a shot cleared off the line.
Ings- Captain for the 2nd half and was working hard throughout. Thoroughly deserved his goal unlucky not to have scored more.
