Our 2022/23 Overall Rank and Recent History

Now last season did not go entirely how we would have hoped. There were more postponements, double gameweeks and players with well over 11 million playing the game so we will put our rank down to those issues. Unfortunately we ended up with a rank of 297,085 which is our worst rank in the nine seasons this team has been running.

For that reason the big bosses have decided to bring me (MattX) in as they obviously need some help! Or more likely a scapegoat for whenever things go wrong.

Initial set up

To start things off we did a very basic add on the most obvious players of Haaland, Trent, Saka. Sprinkle in some more Arsenal in the forms of Jesus and Gabriel, toss in the template 6.5s M&Ms (Mitoma and Mbuemo) then fill in the gaps.

We didn’t do any tinkering with the draft over the preseason friendlies and instead took a back seat to focus on our own teams. That proved to be a solid idea as when we looked back at the inital draft there were a litany of problems; Jesus was injured, Mbuemo is flagged, Trent and co. can’t defend so we did a fire sale and changed up quite a few. The M&Ms got split, Jesus stays in his cave with no resurrection in sight and instead we’ve gone with not one, but two blonde Norwegians!

Here is the final product! (I didn’t quite work my differential magic just yet, need to lull them into a false sense of security. They need to think I actually know what I’m doing first!)

We have squeezed every last drop out of the transfer budget this year but we feel it is warrented as there are nice picks all over the pitch.

The Line-Up

We have gone for 2 cheap picks in Mubama and Bell who will largely keep our bench warm the majority of weeks. The one bench player we did go for is 4.5 defender Botman who offers brilliant value for money at that price hopefully Newcastle can stay as one of the best defences in the league. Everywhere else picks itself. Mbuemo may be flagged but it’s believed he will make GW1. Our biggest debate was the keeper Johnstone vs Pickford with Johnstone winning out

Captain – Haaland

Fairly straightforward. It’s Haaland. Enough said.

Saka will take over if for some reason Haaland doesn’t make an appearance.

I think you have some issues. Bell isn’t nailed, nor Anderson, and I don’t know who Andrey is but imagine he’s not nailed either. That leaves Rico Lewis playing each week, which he won’t.

Darwin isn’t nailed upfront, we don’t know who is for Liverpool. I’d bin him for a 4.5m (unless you fancy a punt on J. Pedro, many people like him) and use the case to upgrade one of your minds. Trippier to Botman given their tough fixtures, will give you more money into the midfield. You should be able to reach Rashford, or at least Bruno. Lewis up to Gabriel, ARS defence is good.

Martinelli and chilwell or odegaard and estupinan? Which is the best option

Injuries permitting, Chilwell is better than Estu, I would imagine Poch will tighten up Chelsea, especially if they get a new DM. BRI I imagine will ship more goals without Caicedo.

Arsenal, Odegaard is less of a rotation/xMin risk than Martinelli.

So overall, who knows? The latter pair is perhaps safer opening weekend, unless you have fancy Chilwell attacking behind Trent ?

    Martinelli and Chilwell for me.

    Anyone on the Richarlison bandwagon?

    Thoughts on this?

    – Jackson could be Watkins, as I have 1.0m in the bank.
    – Trent could be Stones/Shaw, freeing up cash to upgrade one of the 6.5m mids, probably to Bruno but I quite like them both (also Eze, Mitoma)
    – Or, using the Trent money, I can upgrade Osula to Watkins and play 3-4-3. If so, I have a benching headache with 5 good mids.

    Cheers!

This was my set and leave team for a while and now I’m thinking of a few different options. Which one seems better?

    1. Keep Gvardiol, Jackson and 2 x 4.5 defenders
    2. Gvardiol, Watkins and 2 x 4.0 defenders
    3. Chilwell, Jackson and 2 x 4.0 defenders banking 0.5

I’m not overly keen on Anderson in midfield.

Not a big fan of either option mate. Too many compromises in Def. If I had to choose I’d go for the 2 4.5M def option but I wouldn’t start the season with Gvardiol until I see that pep is going to play him every week.

      Pippin says:

I think City defence is tricky. Many of them can play multiple positions and we know he rotates. Stones is *maybe* the most nailed but that’s purely guesswork.

Chilwell is tempting me a lot, though he’s also a good escape route from Estu if it turns out BRI aren’t keeping CS – with the high ownership it feels important to have a way out.

I go back and forth on JPedro. Is he an xMin risk with Ferguson and Welbeck around? If he doesn’t play, will you replace him cheaply and go 3-5-2?
