Our 2022/23 Overall Rank and Recent History

Now last season did not go entirely how we would have hoped. There were more postponements, double gameweeks and players with well over 11 million playing the game so we will put our rank down to those issues. Unfortunately we ended up with a rank of 297,085 which is our worst rank in the nine seasons this team has been running.

For that reason the big bosses have decided to bring me (MattX) in as they obviously need some help! Or more likely a scapegoat for whenever things go wrong.

Initial set up

To start things off we did a very basic add on the most obvious players of Haaland, Trent, Saka. Sprinkle in some more Arsenal in the forms of Jesus and Gabriel, toss in the template 6.5s M&Ms (Mitoma and Mbuemo) then fill in the gaps.

We didn’t do any tinkering with the draft over the preseason friendlies and instead took a back seat to focus on our own teams. That proved to be a solid idea as when we looked back at the inital draft there were a litany of problems; Jesus was injured, Mbuemo is flagged, Trent and co. can’t defend so we did a fire sale and changed up quite a few. The M&Ms got split, Jesus stays in his cave with no resurrection in sight and instead we’ve gone with not one, but two blonde Norwegians!

Here is the final product! (I didn’t quite work my differential magic just yet, need to lull them into a false sense of security. They need to think I actually know what I’m doing first!)

We have squeezed every last drop out of the transfer budget this year but we feel it is warrented as there are nice picks all over the pitch.

The Line-Up

We have gone for 2 cheap picks in Mubama and Bell who will largely keep our bench warm the majority of weeks. The one bench player we did go for is 4.5 defender Botman who offers brilliant value for money at that price hopefully Newcastle can stay as one of the best defences in the league. Everywhere else picks itself. Mbuemo may be flagged but it’s believed he will make GW1. Our biggest debate was the keeper Johnstone vs Pickford with Johnstone winning out

Captain – Haaland

Fairly straightforward. It’s Haaland. Enough said.

Saka will take over if for some reason Haaland doesn’t make an appearance.

  1. Here’s my current effort. Would like some Liverpool attacking coverage. Gakpo a safer bet that Darwin? Worth bringing in instead of Watkins or Jackson?

      Let’s wait and see on Liverpool eh? Might be hard to call all season but might know something after this weekend.

        Is Burns safe? Or is Boteman the one I want?

  2. I seem to be the only one that I have seen so far that has Trent. Is it a bad move having him?

    • It’s not bad at all. Just a lot of cash.
      I haven’t watched any of pools preseason games. Is there a risk that the role in defensive midfield actually gives him less attacking appeal? Does Robertson now get further forward?
      Guessing TTA is still on set pieces though?

    • I wouldn’t be relying on clean sheets is all I’m gonna say.

      • Not expecting that many clean sheets but TAA does get alot of assists and thought he was going forward alot more.
        Would I be better changing him to Shaw and using the additional funds to upgrade mitoma or mbeumo to Bruno

  3. Sorry nearly done last minute panic as always. Do you prefer Trent or Salah team? X

    • Team 2 for me.
      Team one will be playing Boteman for most of Newcastles games, which means benching Mbumeo or Mac, which seems a waste.

    • Actually… changed my mind. I think. Do I prefer TTA / Mac / Watkins over Shaw / Doug / Jackson?

      That’s tough.

      Mac and Doug both look like a solid 2 or 3 points most weeks

      TTA more attacking (maybe) but Shaw in a better defense.

      Watkins more proven than Jackson.

      Flip a coin?.

      • Totally missed that!! We really shouldn’t allow so many teams to all have Red shirts.

        Yeah, that decides it for me. The Salah one too.

    After a good 6 or 7 years out the game I am making my return. Wonder if some of the old hats are about from FFC days. Mito Gallow Cooky and the like. Im unsure if Captain fpl Hindsight will make a return tho due to unforeseen circumstances.

    Anyway, hoping to be active this season

    • Looks good to me but Triple Brighton might be overkill in about 3 weeks. Anderson I’m also unsure if he’s going to get many minutes

      • Salah not on same as when he was playing with Mane. At least not getting the returns. So no clue. Lol.Yours looks netter in depth, unsure about Pedro.
