Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21 2017/18
Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21. I’m not sure why I’m bothering to write this gameweek’s Captain Picks article. There’s only one candidate who’s really worth considering. I won’t name him but his form’s just been insane. Saturday 23rd December: hat-trick. Tuesday 26th December: hat-trick. It’d likely be rather embarrassing for me to back against another one. He’s been transferred in by over 120,000 since. And rising. Still, if you’re one who follows actual fixtures over form, here are 5 alternative and vaguely available candidates for your team’s armband…
Alvaro Morata vs Stoke (H)
My captain. I wish anyway, if I actually owned him. Stoke have already conceded 41 goals and 3+ against each of the following: West Ham, Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and, of slightly more importance here, Chelsea themselves. That match was a 0-4 away win in which Alvaro scored his first Premier League hat-trick. I’d just like to add that Stoke have the same number of Premier League titles as three teams in the above list.
I must warn you, though, that Chelsea have only served up 14 goals at home, yielding an average of just 1.4 goals per match, a definite cause for concern. I’m doubting myself now. Why do I still back this? Morata’s had a hand in over 50% of those goals.
Why not back the tanned Belgian skinhead instead? I might. He rarely needs more than a goal — perhaps just a sneaky penalty — to secure all 3 BPs in a match. His form is lacking, sadly, so the glossy Spaniard gets my approval. I also write about more than enough midgets in my spare time already…
Form: 4
Fixture: 8
Explosiveness: 7
Mohamed Salah vs Leicester (H)
My captain. I think, anyway, if I’m not swayed by Leicester’s unpredictability. Salah’s got it really easy now: the pain of blanking at home isn’t one he’s too familiar with, having only done so in 2 of the 9 home matches that he’s been a starter in, but he can just knock back some Tramadol if playing with Mignolet is causing him too much discomfort.
I don’t need to say much else here. Midfielders who rack up 15 goals and 7 assists in just over half a season don’t come around very often. Sanchez tallied 24 goals and 11 assists last season, playing over twice as many minutes as Salah so far, which was enough to effortlessly make him the top FPL player. Salah would almost surpass Fellaini’s all-time record if he keeps up his absurd form.
Firmino’s a great shout as well. He’s been involved in 2 goals per match in each of the 3 most recent gameweeks, remarkably, and is the only transvestite prostitute to ever do so.
Form: 8
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8
Richarlison de Andrade vs Swansea (H)
This one’s quite hard to justify, but I feel anyone playing Swansea should be given a chance, or at least mentioned on here. Leon Britton and his clowns have conceded 13 goals in their 4 most recent matches. Richarlison hasn’t exactly been in form lately but, as the main striker in Harvey Price’s absence, he’ll expect plenty of opportunities to return to his October status of FPL gold; you don’t need a fancy whisk to beat shit.
Form: 3
Fixture: 9
Explosiveness: 6
Zlatan Ibrahimovic vs Southampton (H)
I won’t deny it. This one’s rather pointless — almost nobody owns him — but perhaps I can tempt in some investment. He scored a brace in this exact fixture, a 2-0 win, and he’s played for… 102 minutes?! Ok, sorry, I can’t get away with this. How about Lingard instead? On the assumption he reclaims his place in the starting XI and you’re weird, you might back Jesse adding to the 6 goals and 2 assists in his 6 most recent matches, who’s currently the most in-form FPL player. I’m not even going to give Lukaku the honour of a mention here! Cue his first brace since the opening day.
Form: 2
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 6
Leroy De Sterling vs Crystal Palace (A)
Being suddenly ordered to “take your pick from these three” sounds great, doesn’t it, but it’s not a nice choice in this case. Even though Jesus has been almost neglected by Pep recently, with these Christmas fixtures ~3 days apart each, there’s no knowing if Aguero plays. Midfield representation feels wisest. Likelihood of starting says Kevin De Bruyne and form says Sterling. Palace are unbeaten in 6 home matches but Man City won’t care.
Form: 9
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8
Good luck, everyone, we’re probably going to need it.

Hey guys,
I’m probably the only guy who is considering removing Morata this gw
I’ve 2FT so gotta use one min. 0.1ITB
Thinking Morata to Firmino this gw and with 2FTs next gw, I could do
Richarlison to Arnie
A Spurs defender or Lloris would come in as my second FT.
Without doing Morata to Firmino don’t see how I can get the necessary funds.
Yay or nay?
Nay.
What’re the other options you’ve thought of?
I can’t see another way honestly GP.
Considering this is all free and it is with an eye on next GW, I probably do it. Really hard to drop Morata with Stoke as his fixture, but I can see the thinking and Firmino could end up getting you more points this GW or at the very least over the long haul.
Tricky one though, interesting transfer.
Never been this annoyed to have 2FTs Mito! Thanks for the input
I wouldnt be taking Morata out before such a plum home fixture against a team with their best 2 defenders missing ! I You could drop Dcl down to Quaner to raise funds or Mahrez to Lingard.Or just do Mahrez to Arnie in gw22 which should leave you the cash to bring a Spurs defender in.
Actually that Mahrez to Lingard doesn’t sound bad at all.
That’s an interesting suggestion Brooky, didn’t think that way.
This could actually be the way I go! thanks!!
I’d bring someone in for Mahrez
Yeah love Mahrez and he has worked well for me until now but for the greater good I’m getting Lingard for him. Never thought I’d ever get Lingard in my team. I’ll try to get Mahrez back soon
I’m going to be a complete dick here Kunal and advise you NOT to take out Mahrez.
He’s in great form.
How about a more reliable player for Christensen?
Good to go? Used my free transfer and have nothing in the bank. Captain choice seems mental
Who you bring in Smash ? Yeah tricky captain choice this week.I’m not certain Hazard starts after Conte’s comments so ive gone Salah for cappo though he could quite easily be benched too !!
Smash should captain Speroni and vc Hennessey. 😉
Guaranteed his captain plays and 99% sure he plays 90. #JobDone
With my luck one will be sick and one injured lol. Just read that Palace are prioritising signing a keeper as well
I bought Kenny in for Kiko. Thought I might need the extra player. Yeah have to admit I’m fearful of both being benched. It’s been on Salah all week
If Hazard starts, I don’t see how he misses out scoring bit. Think it’s worth the risk as I don’t a scenerio where he comes off the bench.
Yeah i thought that against Southampton and Brighton……
Dammit thats means ill need a Kenny replacement next week !!!
Ha ha I think I’ve lost at least one defender every week in December
Am I ready?
Very similar position to my own but I think you are alright. Players are pretty nailed. Only worry would be Mariappa for me.
Would you play dunk instead? I’ve got 2fts so could easily make some changes
I’d leave it since if Mariappa doesn’t play then Dunk will come in anyway. Swansea are the poorer side so if Mariappa plays then he’s my choice over Dunk.
Yeah looks fine. You will probably get Dunk over Mariappa anyway
Thanks both
Evening folks, I’m alright with this team right? Captain and all? I want to save my FT for the DGW.
Yep looks really good
Cheers Smash. Was just looking at your team and it looks good. Only worry would be if Sane starts
Yeah I think he starts this week. He’s one I’m more confident about this week. I think I’ll get rid of Sane and Hazard for a couple of Spurs midfielders for the double
2FT, 0.1m ITB.
I’m thinking KDB to Sane (unless Silva is confirmed as playing, which looks unlikely) which will allow me the funds for 3 attacking DGW players in GW22. Anything else I should be thinking of?
Cheers
Robbo
I’m not sure on Sane to be honest Robbo. He’s not nailed on and with Delph, Danilo and B.Silva in there Sane is not guaranteed.
It’s not ideal – I think I’m just looking to avoid losing a transfer. I suppose the other option is to bring in somebody with a blank GW21, which would potentially avoid a hit next week but still sticks in the craw a bit.
Yeah that’s what I’m just looking at for your team now and I can see 2 options that could be good.
A. Pope to Adrian and play Speroni this week.
B. Klavan to Ogbonna as there is very little chance Klavan will ever see the PL first team again.
Cheers Matt. Klavan does need to go but VVD doesn’t join until after this GW so he should play this GW, and I don’t really fancy WHU defence anyway even with the DGW.
Mind you, on the plus side it does open up the option for triple Liverpool attack if Coutinho stays!
I’m pretty sure Sane will play this week his form has dropped and B Silva has been getting more game time. I’m unsure of Sane long term but I’m giving him more time
Hey Smash. His FPL form has certainly dropped, but having watched him I think it’s mostly because he has to track back more with Mendy out. He could explode, but equally so can KDB who I’d be losing. Pogba > Arnie is another option since Utd don’t seem to be firing.
I’m going round in circles on this.
Do I need to make any transfers?
1FT and 0.3itb
Nope
