Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21 2017/18
Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21. I’m not sure why I’m bothering to write this gameweek’s Captain Picks article. There’s only one candidate who’s really worth considering. I won’t name him but his form’s just been insane. Saturday 23rd December: hat-trick. Tuesday 26th December: hat-trick. It’d likely be rather embarrassing for me to back against another one. He’s been transferred in by over 120,000 since. And rising. Still, if you’re one who follows actual fixtures over form, here are 5 alternative and vaguely available candidates for your team’s armband…
Alvaro Morata vs Stoke (H)
My captain. I wish anyway, if I actually owned him. Stoke have already conceded 41 goals and 3+ against each of the following: West Ham, Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and, of slightly more importance here, Chelsea themselves. That match was a 0-4 away win in which Alvaro scored his first Premier League hat-trick. I’d just like to add that Stoke have the same number of Premier League titles as three teams in the above list.
I must warn you, though, that Chelsea have only served up 14 goals at home, yielding an average of just 1.4 goals per match, a definite cause for concern. I’m doubting myself now. Why do I still back this? Morata’s had a hand in over 50% of those goals.
Why not back the tanned Belgian skinhead instead? I might. He rarely needs more than a goal — perhaps just a sneaky penalty — to secure all 3 BPs in a match. His form is lacking, sadly, so the glossy Spaniard gets my approval. I also write about more than enough midgets in my spare time already…
Form: 4
Fixture: 8
Explosiveness: 7
Mohamed Salah vs Leicester (H)
My captain. I think, anyway, if I’m not swayed by Leicester’s unpredictability. Salah’s got it really easy now: the pain of blanking at home isn’t one he’s too familiar with, having only done so in 2 of the 9 home matches that he’s been a starter in, but he can just knock back some Tramadol if playing with Mignolet is causing him too much discomfort.
I don’t need to say much else here. Midfielders who rack up 15 goals and 7 assists in just over half a season don’t come around very often. Sanchez tallied 24 goals and 11 assists last season, playing over twice as many minutes as Salah so far, which was enough to effortlessly make him the top FPL player. Salah would almost surpass Fellaini’s all-time record if he keeps up his absurd form.
Firmino’s a great shout as well. He’s been involved in 2 goals per match in each of the 3 most recent gameweeks, remarkably, and is the only transvestite prostitute to ever do so.
Form: 8
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8
Richarlison de Andrade vs Swansea (H)
This one’s quite hard to justify, but I feel anyone playing Swansea should be given a chance, or at least mentioned on here. Leon Britton and his clowns have conceded 13 goals in their 4 most recent matches. Richarlison hasn’t exactly been in form lately but, as the main striker in Harvey Price’s absence, he’ll expect plenty of opportunities to return to his October status of FPL gold; you don’t need a fancy whisk to beat shit.
Form: 3
Fixture: 9
Explosiveness: 6
Zlatan Ibrahimovic vs Southampton (H)
I won’t deny it. This one’s rather pointless — almost nobody owns him — but perhaps I can tempt in some investment. He scored a brace in this exact fixture, a 2-0 win, and he’s played for… 102 minutes?! Ok, sorry, I can’t get away with this. How about Lingard instead? On the assumption he reclaims his place in the starting XI and you’re weird, you might back Jesse adding to the 6 goals and 2 assists in his 6 most recent matches, who’s currently the most in-form FPL player. I’m not even going to give Lukaku the honour of a mention here! Cue his first brace since the opening day.
Form: 2
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 6
Leroy De Sterling vs Crystal Palace (A)
Being suddenly ordered to “take your pick from these three” sounds great, doesn’t it, but it’s not a nice choice in this case. Even though Jesus has been almost neglected by Pep recently, with these Christmas fixtures ~3 days apart each, there’s no knowing if Aguero plays. Midfield representation feels wisest. Likelihood of starting says Kevin De Bruyne and form says Sterling. Palace are unbeaten in 6 home matches but Man City won’t care.
Form: 9
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8
Good luck, everyone, we’re probably going to need it.

Hope you’ve all had a great Christmas. Thank you for the article James. Sticking around the 66k mark and need to up my game!
Do we know what is happening with Silva? I put him GW20 trying to be clever (it wasn’t)
My plan was to move Hazard to Eriksen for the DGW but having second thoughts now.
Will need to wait on Pep for Silva update. Must be annoying that he keeps on missing out. I like the Erikson move I might go big on Spurs for the double. Great rank by the way
Thanks Smash x
Morning All
On my WC and below is the first draft, ive replaced Jones and Mahrez with Otamendi and Lingard
Id appreciate some advice as Im a bit unsure about these moves or if im missing other obvious moves
Being on wildcard the lack of Spurs/west ham coverage would worry me with their double game week coming up.
Front 3 look good, Salah and Sterling are season keepers (bar any injuries) I would say Gross and Schindler need to be replaced, and although Lingard has done well recently his game time worries me and i dont think he will keep up his current form.
I think Arnautovic is a must if on wildcard. He is playing as a striker, has a double game week coming up and has a good run after the spurs game.
Cheers Bmac – appreciate that.
Arnautavic into the squad with my free transfer and available funds was the move id in mind for next week.
Lingard is a bit of a gamble alright – maybe Mahrez to Delo or Son? Just to get additional Spurs coverage
I’d want Alonso in there instead of Azpil. I do prefer Jones and Mahrez. Mahrez has been picking up points but think I’d prefer another City midfielder. Think Otamendi costs too much now but that’s prob just me. Not sure on Schindler might be better alternatives with Kenny or Robertson but he’s safe and has a nice run. Just being picky though really it’s a decent team
But yeah Adrián instead of Elliott, Makusaku instead of Schindler and maybe worth taking Son so you are set up for double. Arnautovic is appealing as well
Cheers Smash – im concious of not messing up the squad to chase spurs/west ham coverage.
Arnautavic playing as a striker tho seems a good move for one of GroB/ Mahrez but both of them might go ok this GW
Agree with you on Otamendi price- i was slow off the mark on that a few weeks back.
Anyone any ideals struggling with free transfer or should I roll it over ?
0.1 in the bank
Hi Shane – I’m in the same position as you but with 2fts and less certainty on starters (see below). Your team looks good and if I was in your position I would roll to use on dgw players next week!
Yeah roll it over. Pogba to Son could be good next week
Cheers guys.
Hi everyone, hope you’ve all had a great Christmas. Thanks to James for a right giggle of an article! I’m inside the top 100k for the first time in a while after 98 this week so looking to keep the momentum going. Looking at my team im a bit terrified about this week coming up. Have 2fts and only 0.1 itb. Is there any one move that would give me a boost for this week? Planning arnie and alli in next week. Cheers!
Very strong position there. Maybe take a punt on someone with an easy fixture over Zaha as he’s playing City
Thanks Smash – that was my first thought too. Then I started toying with getting morata in for Kane for one week. If price predictions are right and i made the move tomorrow I’d only lose 0.1 on it. I would have to take a -4 to get Kane back as well as arnie and alli afterwards though.
James
Thank you for the article. Had a good old chuckle at that.
Sterling I think.
Larcos, thank you, mate. Nice work on the 100k milestone! Quarner probably deserves a starting-XI spot.
GP — you FPL machine — congratulations on (a) your GW20 points century and (b) your top-500 spot!
Sterling seems to be a nice differential captain, remarkably, this weekend. Keep going and all the best.
