Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21 2017/18
Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21. I’m not sure why I’m bothering to write this gameweek’s Captain Picks article. There’s only one candidate who’s really worth considering. I won’t name him but his form’s just been insane. Saturday 23rd December: hat-trick. Tuesday 26th December: hat-trick. It’d likely be rather embarrassing for me to back against another one. He’s been transferred in by over 120,000 since. And rising. Still, if you’re one who follows actual fixtures over form, here are 5 alternative and vaguely available candidates for your team’s armband…
Alvaro Morata vs Stoke (H)
My captain. I wish anyway, if I actually owned him. Stoke have already conceded 41 goals and 3+ against each of the following: West Ham, Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and, of slightly more importance here, Chelsea themselves. That match was a 0-4 away win in which Alvaro scored his first Premier League hat-trick. I’d just like to add that Stoke have the same number of Premier League titles as three teams in the above list.
I must warn you, though, that Chelsea have only served up 14 goals at home, yielding an average of just 1.4 goals per match, a definite cause for concern. I’m doubting myself now. Why do I still back this? Morata’s had a hand in over 50% of those goals.
Why not back the tanned Belgian skinhead instead? I might. He rarely needs more than a goal — perhaps just a sneaky penalty — to secure all 3 BPs in a match. His form is lacking, sadly, so the glossy Spaniard gets my approval. I also write about more than enough midgets in my spare time already…
Form: 4
Fixture: 8
Explosiveness: 7
Mohamed Salah vs Leicester (H)
My captain. I think, anyway, if I’m not swayed by Leicester’s unpredictability. Salah’s got it really easy now: the pain of blanking at home isn’t one he’s too familiar with, having only done so in 2 of the 9 home matches that he’s been a starter in, but he can just knock back some Tramadol if playing with Mignolet is causing him too much discomfort.
I don’t need to say much else here. Midfielders who rack up 15 goals and 7 assists in just over half a season don’t come around very often. Sanchez tallied 24 goals and 11 assists last season, playing over twice as many minutes as Salah so far, which was enough to effortlessly make him the top FPL player. Salah would almost surpass Fellaini’s all-time record if he keeps up his absurd form.
Firmino’s a great shout as well. He’s been involved in 2 goals per match in each of the 3 most recent gameweeks, remarkably, and is the only transvestite prostitute to ever do so.
Form: 8
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8
Richarlison de Andrade vs Swansea (H)
This one’s quite hard to justify, but I feel anyone playing Swansea should be given a chance, or at least mentioned on here. Leon Britton and his clowns have conceded 13 goals in their 4 most recent matches. Richarlison hasn’t exactly been in form lately but, as the main striker in Harvey Price’s absence, he’ll expect plenty of opportunities to return to his October status of FPL gold; you don’t need a fancy whisk to beat shit.
Form: 3
Fixture: 9
Explosiveness: 6
Zlatan Ibrahimovic vs Southampton (H)
I won’t deny it. This one’s rather pointless — almost nobody owns him — but perhaps I can tempt in some investment. He scored a brace in this exact fixture, a 2-0 win, and he’s played for… 102 minutes?! Ok, sorry, I can’t get away with this. How about Lingard instead? On the assumption he reclaims his place in the starting XI and you’re weird, you might back Jesse adding to the 6 goals and 2 assists in his 6 most recent matches, who’s currently the most in-form FPL player. I’m not even going to give Lukaku the honour of a mention here! Cue his first brace since the opening day.
Form: 2
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 6
Leroy De Sterling vs Crystal Palace (A)
Being suddenly ordered to “take your pick from these three” sounds great, doesn’t it, but it’s not a nice choice in this case. Even though Jesus has been almost neglected by Pep recently, with these Christmas fixtures ~3 days apart each, there’s no knowing if Aguero plays. Midfield representation feels wisest. Likelihood of starting says Kevin De Bruyne and form says Sterling. Palace are unbeaten in 6 home matches but Man City won’t care.
Form: 9
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8
Good luck, everyone, we’re probably going to need it.

Hi all! This is my squad and I’m feeling it’s just not good enough this week. Kun probably gets rested and maybe Sterling as well. Do I have to play Carrol and still may only have 10 (so 9 1/2 really)! I am thinking of swapping Kane out for Morata and bring him back in next week. I realize that it wastes 2 fts but I feel I need it this week. Thoughts? (2ft 0itb)
Do you not have a few 0.1m’s in Kane’s value? I’m struggling to advise, as you know that Pep can either make or break this team, but I’d actually be more inclined to sell on Aguero for Morata this gameweek if you’re truly scared of rotation. Morata could, in fairness, also get a rest. I just don’t know…
Hey James!
First things first, thanks for the article! Brilliant read!
Second, I’m not worried about Morata as he served his suspension and got a rest in that one. Also, they seem pretty bad at scoring without him :/
I have .2 built up in Kane, but I’m not too worried about that. I’m more concerned that I’m settling for a crap score this week so that I can have a slightly better score next week…
Cheers, it didn’t feel great when I wrote it, had to force the humour! Are you Aguero (c) set? I remember him scoring a brace at Palace a couple of seasons ago. Could go either way.
I see, that’s fair, points always come first. Morata looks good for *at least* 6 tomorrow.
Let’s hope Sterling and co. don’t fall vicitim to the bench!
Hey Guys,
Which option is right? I have 1FT and 1.2itb.
1. Ogbonna to Lascelles (For this option, I will transfer in Adrian or Lazini/Arnautovic for GW22).
2. Carroll to Astu
3. C-Mooting to Ritchie
4. No transfer
5. Your suggestions
Many thanks.

Afternoon
I have 1 FT & 2.1 ITB, what should I do?
I think you should pick Elliot & Mbemba for Foster & Cork.
Save 1FT
I think elliot is out with a thigh injury
Pick him anyway 😉
I’m tempted to sell Foster for Adrian, in advance, to avoid the former’s likely second price drop tonight…
Good to go. I’d play Mbemba over Cork I think though
Agreed. Mbemba is likely to not come in from the bench if he doesn’t start and even if he did, that only be one less point than what Cork will get.
I know that we all get excited about a DGW, but are we not overreacting to this particular one? There’s only 1 day of rest between matches, so there will surely be a TON of rotation. Beyond Kane/Lloris/Vert/Sanchez I think everyone else at Spurs is at risk. For WHU I’m less confident, but maybe Arny/Adrián/Ogbonna/Lanzini??? Not even really certain on them.
My point is that is it really worth having a bad game this week just to have a potentially slightly higher GW midweek? Thoughts???
A DGW is a DGW! All aboard
Hahah it’s gonna be tougher than that to convince me on doubles :/
I think we have set up quite well for the DGW! Still would like son and maybe one more!
Great point Pancho, plus it now looks like Kane has come down ill and could be a risk for that game against the Swans!
They don’t play at the weekend and then it’s FA cup after so they will all get a rest. Yeah there will be rotation but I’m expecting the big players to play he’s not going to play a different 11. Full backs will change. Has options in CM. Lamela will get a game
IMO Kane, Alli, Eriksen, Son will feature both games cuz it’s not like we’re blessed with attacking options. It’s just a question of how many mins will they get. Llorente and Lamela could get some mins too but I think it’s highly unlikely for both to play full 90 mins given the latter just came back from over a year injury
and the former can’t score. 😉
He was brought in to run down the clock when we’re a goal up and after Kane is completely drained. I can see this happening against the Hammers!
Cody, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lamela get a start for Son in one of those matches. I could also see Sissoko starting in place of one of them. With Wanyama back in full training I could see Dembele/Wanyama/Winks in midfield against WHU with Kane/Lamela/Eriksen up top. There are a lot more options with Lamela and Wanyama back…
Afternoon, which 4.4 defender (or less) to get to go with Davies, Christensen, Ogbonna + Kenny ? Suggestions please.
Afternoon Elle
Hope you are fine mate…
Not many options w/in that price bracket…
Masuaku (WH) or Tomkins (CP) I guess…
Hey up HL, hows it ‘angin mate ? I know theres not a lot about, theres a few from the lower teams, shall we say.
Masuaku is now 4.5.
Is Dunk still 4.4
4.5 now
Ah prob Zeegelaar then
Smash, was Zeegelaar injured or dropped for the 3 games hes just missed ?
Suspended
Cheers Smasher.
Afternoon all, I’m in something of a pickle with Elliot’s injury.
2FT and 0.2 ITB
My plan was to turn Fabianski into Adrián this week and play Elliot, roll my 2nd FT and use the two next week to bring in Son and Arnie for Haz and Richarlison next week = 5 DGW players.
I now have no idea what to do! I can now have 5 DGW players without a hit, so I’m down to 4 max ( which is fine) but I don’t know what to do with my FTs this week!
Aghhhhhh!! No idea!
*Can’t not can!
I reeally don’t know mate.
Maybe Elliot to Adrian if you can afford it? And play Fabianski this week. I’m really not sure about that.
No mate that’s the issue – I’m 0.1 short of that! Very frustrating!!
