Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21 2017/18

Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 21. I’m not sure why I’m bothering to write this gameweek’s Captain Picks article. There’s only one candidate who’s really worth considering. I won’t name him but his form’s just been insane. Saturday 23rd December: hat-trick. Tuesday 26th December: hat-trick. It’d likely be rather embarrassing for me to back against another one. He’s been transferred in by over 120,000 since. And rising. Still, if you’re one who follows actual fixtures over form, here are 5 alternative and vaguely available candidates for your team’s armband…

Alvaro Morata vs Stoke (H)
My captain. I wish anyway, if I actually owned him. Stoke have already conceded 41 goals and 3+ against each of the following: West Ham, Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and, of slightly more importance here, Chelsea themselves. That match was a 0-4 away win in which Alvaro scored his first Premier League hat-trick. I’d just like to add that Stoke have the same number of Premier League titles as three teams in the above list.

I must warn you, though, that Chelsea have only served up 14 goals at home, yielding an average of just 1.4 goals per match, a definite cause for concern. I’m doubting myself now. Why do I still back this? Morata’s had a hand in over 50% of those goals.

Why not back the tanned Belgian skinhead instead? I might. He rarely needs more than a goal — perhaps just a sneaky penalty — to secure all 3 BPs in a match. His form is lacking, sadly, so the glossy Spaniard gets my approval. I also write about more than enough midgets in my spare time already…

Form: 4
Fixture: 8
Explosiveness: 7

Mohamed Salah vs Leicester (H)
My captain. I think, anyway, if I’m not swayed by Leicester’s unpredictability. Salah’s got it really easy now: the pain of blanking at home isn’t one he’s too familiar with, having only done so in 2 of the 9 home matches that he’s been a starter in, but he can just knock back some Tramadol if playing with Mignolet is causing him too much discomfort.

I don’t need to say much else here. Midfielders who rack up 15 goals and 7 assists in just over half a season don’t come around very often. Sanchez tallied 24 goals and 11 assists last season, playing over twice as many minutes as Salah so far, which was enough to effortlessly make him the top FPL player. Salah would almost surpass Fellaini’s all-time record if he keeps up his absurd form.

Firmino’s a great shout as well. He’s been involved in 2 goals per match in each of the 3 most recent gameweeks, remarkably, and is the only transvestite prostitute to ever do so.

Form: 8
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8

Richarlison de Andrade vs Swansea (H)
This one’s quite hard to justify, but I feel anyone playing Swansea should be given a chance, or at least mentioned on here. Leon Britton and his clowns have conceded 13 goals in their 4 most recent matches. Richarlison hasn’t exactly been in form lately but, as the main striker in Harvey Price’s absence, he’ll expect plenty of opportunities to return to his October status of FPL gold; you don’t need a fancy whisk to beat shit.

Form: 3
Fixture: 9
Explosiveness: 6

Zlatan Ibrahimovic vs Southampton (H)
I won’t deny it. This one’s rather pointless — almost nobody owns him — but perhaps I can tempt in some investment. He scored a brace in this exact fixture, a 2-0 win, and he’s played for… 102 minutes?! Ok, sorry, I can’t get away with this. How about Lingard instead? On the assumption he reclaims his place in the starting XI and you’re weird, you might back Jesse adding to the 6 goals and 2 assists in his 6 most recent matches, who’s currently the most in-form FPL player. I’m not even going to give Lukaku the honour of a mention here! Cue his first brace since the opening day.

Form: 2
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 6

Leroy De Sterling vs Crystal Palace (A)
Being suddenly ordered to “take your pick from these three” sounds great, doesn’t it, but it’s not a nice choice in this case. Even though Jesus has been almost neglected by Pep recently, with these Christmas fixtures ~3 days apart each, there’s no knowing if Aguero plays. Midfield representation feels wisest. Likelihood of starting says Kevin De Bruyne and form says Sterling. Palace are unbeaten in 6 home matches but Man City won’t care.

Form: 9
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8

Good luck, everyone, we’re probably going to need it.

  1. I am going to offload Kane for just one game, ill only lose 0.1 in value so its ok. Who to replace him for that game? Kun seems to best option but the risk is he will be rested, he is due a rest.. what do you think?

    • Aguero is as good as any with his track record and the fixture but it certainly comes with risk.

But with risk comes reward. Sometimes smile

      • If Kun plays again I’m going to want him back as he’s starting to play every game

    • If I had the luxury of doing that without it costing me a -4 just to barely field 10 and then another hit next week to get him back then I would.

And it’d be Morata in and probably with the armband on too.

  2. Who would you rather have for this GW

    Firmino or kun?

    • Kane

    • If Kun was 100% to start id say him but id go for Fermino just because he will start

    • Have you got Morata already?

Stoke look a bit short at the back…

      • Yes mate, he’s my Cappo

        • Firmino then. Just think Kun is due a rest.

        • Fellas, I’ve done Kane -> Morata for the week. Kept Kun. I think he was due a rest, but then Jesus came on for 74+ minutes midweek. With the uncertainty over Silva I think (hope) Kun will start, possibly alongside Jesus. I’m being optimistic I guess, but Kun apparently shoulda had a Hattrick with all of the opportunities he Hand. It’s also a Wednesday -> Sunday rest period for him.

        • Cheers init

  3. Think I’m going mad I’m tempted to captain Hazard

  4. My team is a bit of a mess, Ive got 1 ft and 0.2m ITB any ideas? Giving Hazard one last shot as captain and then he’s gone next week most likely?

    • Same thing I’m doing myself and have said to others, I would save. I’m torn between Hazard & Morata but it’s on Hazard right now also.

  5. Has anyone seen Man Utd live over the last few weeks? Just wondering what Pogba has looked like really.

    • I’ve watched the games and can’t really remember his performances, that’s probably not a good sign. He’s been playing quite deep and with Lukaku’s lack of movement (and shooting ability) of late, his assist potential has diminished.

I’m not sure what his stats would say but few touches in the box I would imagine. I think he’s a wait and see option.

      • Thanks Den. This is a one game wonder as whoever comes in will be offski next week for Alli anyway. While I have you then what about Lingard? I know his recent stats but have his performances really upped that much or is it a blip?

        • For one week, I would go Lingard and he’s looking very sharp. His movement was mentioned on MOTD and it’s true, he’s very hard to pick up. He scored 2 in the last game and missed another from 2 yards out.

        • I would expect Pogba to play further forward against Southampton as they look toothless, so I think both could do well.

        • Den, nice fence laugh

        • I’d go Pogba over Lingard

        • True that. I think both are good options, but I would go Lingard, final answer!

        • One all!

Pogba was the initial intention, don’t know why really, just fancied him as a punt. His points per game up until 2 GW’s ago would have put him as the 2nd top points scorer overall.

This is all assuming we get no more Silva news tomorrow. If he’s suddenly back in the country again then happy days, he can stay and Morata will be in for Kane.

    • He hasn’t looked bad, just that he sits very deep and it annoys me to high hell when I see Matic up the field and him sitting back. Right now the likeliest way for him to score is if he hits a wonder shot from distance, which is unlikely, so I don’t like those odds. I think earlier in the season he was benefitting from Fellaini, now wait hear me out. smile

Afro was coming on and taking his spot in the midfield, that allowed Pogba to basically go play CAM or what not, definitely sit much higher. In 2 of the 3 games Pogba scored a goal and added an assist also after Fellaini came on. In the 2 games since he came back from suspension he has stayed deep the whole game. Mhki has come on both games, Lingard for Rojo and even Herrera for Mata. No one has come on to take his role and allow him to sit higher. Think that is the problem, he was benefitting from defences opening up at the end of games where he also happened to be sitting higher in the last 15 minutes. That stopped happening because of the sort of players subbing in, so he stopped being in great positions to do damage.

  6. I read that Kane now has a cold and is not in training, that will put a cloud over his TC potential. Sunday problems…
