Kop — Richarlison v Brentford (H)

Where have all the quality capo options gone?
– Salah? Headed off to the AFCON and is now injured.
– Son? Helping South Korea qualify for the last 16 of the Asian Cup.
– Haaland? Hasn’t featured since GW15 due to injury. Granted, he could feature against Burnley on Wednesday night, but are you
brave enough to hand him the armband?
– Saka? Just one goal in his last six games!
– Watkins? Just a goal and two assists in his last seven games!

In a world of such uncertainty and inconsistency, who would have thought that Richarlison would be someone you could rely on! He is however a picture of consistency at present with six goals in his last six games. He’s not one for the stats boffins and there undoubtedly options for this week’s armband with better stats but he has rediscovered where the goals are and, let’s face it, that’s the important thing.

Spurs are one of the form teams in the league, with four wins and a draw in their last six games. Brentford, on the other hand, had lost five on the bounce before beating Forest last time out. The Bees have also conceded 12 goals in their last six games.

The Tottenham Hotspur stadium (what a stupid name for a stadium) always generates a great atmosphere and I expect Spurs and Richarlison plenty to cheer for under the lights on Wednesday night.

Stone Frog – De Bruyne v Burnley (H)

This week’s explosive TNT is KDB! Go big or go home! Ok so there is a minutes risk, but this is potentially a big upside pick. Man City’s record against Burnley is formidable, look it up it’s scary. The Citizens have scored five or more goals in five of the last six meetings with the Clarets at the Etihad. Let’s hope after those dynamic sub appearances that Kevin gets the nod for a start. There are safer options, but captain picks will be split this week, so it’s the chance to take a risk and have some fun. Impressively De Bruyne has 65 goals and 103 assists in 244 premier league games, averaging two attacking returns every three matches. Just maybe he will add a few more this week!

Swirly – Alvarez v Burnley (H)

Following on from Stone Frog’s recommendation of KDB as Man City host Burnley at home, it’s probably little surprise to see another Cityzen here. With Haaland in a “Will he? Won’t he?” conundrum when it comes to starting, we can look to his Argentinian colleague who, himself, has had a great season to date. With half a dozen goals and eight others set up for his teammates, the number 19 has proved to be rather resistant to Pep’s love of rotation, having started every game so far this campaign.

Looking at the fixture itself, it probably comes as no surprise when I tell you that Man City enjoy themselves when they host the Clarets at home. Over the last 10 in all competitions, 39 goals have been scored, as the FA Cup in particular proved to be lucrative. That said, it has still been a minimum of two times Pep’s men have found the back of the net, with that figure also significant as the last time the two squads met, Alvarez score twice.

Swirly – Jota v Chelsea (H)

Will the game finish 0-0? Will it finish 1-1? Could the fixture even be a 2-2 thriller? The reason I ask is because all three of those scorelines have appeared in the last seven meetings between Chelsea and Liverpool. The Blues and Reds have recently been loving a draw, apparently.

In Salah’s absence, Diogo Jota has more than stepped up to the plate, having spent most of the winter so far off the pitch himself. Since the Portuguese’s return, he’s notched up 32 points in just 122 minutes across three fixtures. That started with a goal in the six minutes he played against Burnley, two assists in the 4-2 victory over Newcastle – making quite the impact for 26 minutes – and there was then the 19 points from two more goals and another setup as he saw out the whole fixture away at Bournemouth. Indeed, only Darwin – with three – has scored more than the 27-year-old in that time, with Salah picking up a duo, and Gakpo and Jones each laying claim to one. Fair to say that if there is a Liverpool player who does find the back of the net, it’ll be Jota.

Looking at Gameweek 22, there is, of course, the distinct possibility of the game finishing honours even, however it’s worth noting that Chelsea aren’t massively solid at the back when it comes to games on the road. There was the trip to Luton where they conceded twice, as the same amount was let in against Wolves, Everton and Man United. Slightly further back, there was also the four at Newcastle too. Little wonder that Gusto is very much sat on my bench in anticipation of history repeating!

The confessional…

This is where we ask our entire writing team to tell us who they think they will pick this week… There are more caveats and get out clauses than a meeting with Daniel Levy but this is their initial gut feeling based upon who they actually own. And they promise that their picks will be allowed to leave for free if a better offer comes along…
