Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 27
Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 27
It’s fair to say that last week’s Capo picks were a bit of a let-down! Haaland was the star of the bunch, his solitary assist helping Smash along to 8 (C) points, which just about says it all. Rashford and Saka came up with 4 (C) points apiece, for Gear and Init respectively. The answer was of course Salah and his 41! Who knew…
Mo is back on the menu this week, only he has but one game, and so he is up against a (small) raft of ‘doublers’.
Let’s go see what Rosco, Matt and Stone Frog make of it all…….
Rosco – Toney v Everton (A) and Southampton (A)
It’s another double game-week, so if ever there was an opportunity to roll the dice with a captain pick who is not Norwegian, then this is it. Whilst I’m sure Haaland will be amongst the bookie’s favourites for anytime goal scorers, indeed it’s one of those weeks where you take a bit of a gamble, and if I were a betting man, then Ivan Toney is surely worth a punt. Ok, enough of the betting references, innocent until proven guilty and all that!
Toney has 5 goals and 1 assist since the World cup restart, and sadly only the brave or unaware have benefitted from those precious FPL points. However, he seems for now to be a viable option at least in the short term, and with 5 fixtures in his next 3 game weeks with a double this very game week he seems worthy of a shout for your captaincy.
First up in this week’s doubleheader are a Toffees side that may look a little more defensively competent under Sean Dyche, but still managed to ship 2 in each of their last 2 fixtures. Their draw away to Forest at the weekend saw them slip into the relegation places and over the last 6, only Man Utd (13) have conceded more than Everton (12).
Could it get any better? Well, yes actually it could. It’s Southampton up next for Ivan who currently sits second from bottom. To be fair to the Saints they have fared a little better than Everton in recent weeks, picking up important wins away to Chelsea and at home to Leicester at the weekend. However, they’ve lost 4 in their last 6, 2 of those came at St Marys and back in GW22 they played the reverse fixture up at the Gtech Community stadium (that’s Brentford’s ground for those wondering) where they lost 3-0.
Do I think these are the perfect fixtures for Toney? No, but I do think they could be more than enough for a couple of returns, and with Toney, that often means bonus points too. Nice.
Matt – Mo Salah – Bournemouth
I want to start with being honest with you. I have been pretty anti-Liverpool when it comes to owning their assets this season. I have owned Trent, Salah, Diaz and usually they have done nothing for me but get duck eggs. Liverpool’s struggles this year are easy for all to see but once again Salah has been going about his business and breaking records. 11 goals and 8 assists this season and has just been crowned the top goalscorer in the Premier League for Liverpool. This is phenomenal for a player that has only been at the club for 5 and a half seasons. His goal returns this season have him tied in 5th place. These numbers are making people deem Salah to be having a bad season but this is just because of the high levels he has been hitting in previous years. He has taken 63 shots this year with 51% accuracy. After the World Cup, Salah went on a 5-game run of no goals or assists but Liverpool also lost 3 of those games. Liverpool and Salah have turned this form around in the last 5 games with 4 wins and a draw. In that time, Salah got 4 goals and 3 assists with 6 bonus points.
With this upturn in form a match against relegation contenders Bournemouth could be an opportunity for a monster haul for the Egyptian. The main reason I am saying this game could be massive for Salah in particular is due to how Bournemouth have defended in the last two games against right wingers. In GW25, Phil Foden had 1 goal, 1 assist, 7 key passes and an xG of 0.54. In GW26, Bukayo Saka also had an xG of 0.54, 3 key passes and hit the post. This is promising for Mo Salah! Bournemouth have kept only one clean sheet since the World Cup and only 5 across the whole season.
The biggest issue with putting the armband on Salah is that Liverpool versus Bournemouth is the 12:30 kickoff on Saturday and as Gandhi said “Never back the early kick off!”
Stone Frog – Mitoma/March/Mac Allister v Leeds (A) & Palace (H)
Moving on to those marvelous midfielders of Brighton, with all three of Mitoma, March and Mac Allister being good options this week. Whether you have meticulous poured over the individual stats, are simply enjoying a holiday in Japan, or like me have a sister with a birthday March 7; you have made your choice for now, so let’s check out Brighton’s prospects in general.
The Seagulls have won 5 of their 9 games since the World Cup, scoring 20 goals along the way, quite in line with how the UK’s best online casinos and bookmaker predicted. Over the course of the season, they are 5th for goals (43) and 5th for shots on target (136). This week is a double game week against two teams from the bottom half of the table, with a trip to Elland Road, before welcoming Palace to the Amex Stadium. Leeds sit just above the relegation zone and are 16th for goals conceded (40). The Whites have only beaten Brighton once in their last dozen meetings. Palace have a better history against the Seagulls, with 5 of the last 7 being 1-1 draws; including the reverse fixture in GW23, with Solly March scoring the opener. However, they have struggled since the restart with only 1 win in 11.
Now I would be mendacious if I didn’t confess that I think Mitoma is the safest pick here, whilst March and Mac Allister feel a bit riskier. Mitoma and March both average 4.7pts per match over the season and have both scored 5 goals and 2 assists in the 9 games from GW17. However, the Englishman seems to be a bit more boom or bust, with a few mammoth hauls (when I bench him!), and blanks (when I play him!), with 4 double digit returns and 5 blanks in the last 9. In contrast Mitoma has been more consistent with returns in 6 of the last 9 and has looked good on the eye test. Mac Allister is harder to gauge as he has only more recently been playing in a more advanced role. The Argentinian did return a goal and assist last time out against West Ham; however these were a penalty and a flick on at a corner. The Seagulls probably have the pick of the fixtures this week, so why not give one of them the armband.
The confessional…
This is where we ask our entire writing team to tell us who they think they will pick this week….

***NEW ARTICLE- CAPO PICKS GW27***
With a DGW to consider Rosco, Matt and Stone Frog examine both sides of that particular coin.
Many thanks all, great work!
This is how I line up, 1FT and £5.4m ITB I am going to roll the transfer as WC last GW.
I REALLY need this team to step up this DGW and deliver a very good score.
Thanks lads – yes the captain choice this week has me running scared, as no longer have….Salah! I’m sadly one of the masses (who believed Brian to be the messiah…oops, wrong film!), but as I wrote in a post last week, I was planning to hold off the WC to this week…but didn’t!
Anyway, back to captains – this week I don’t trust anyone, so I’ll be putting the armband on Captain Kirk (oops, wrong film again!!!) – sorry, Toney. That’s it – I’m sticking to it (just like I stuck to my guns last week), I think!
You’ve probably had enough of my early morning, ‘speaking in brackets and parentheses’, so I’ll get back and check the toaster and fire up the coffee machine!
See you all around and hope you are having a good day!
Cheers, AJW (who knows not the meaning of ‘be brief’! 😉 )
Agree, me too. Think I am doing well this year comparing previous is that I almost had Haaland as a default captain. I usually mess it up when I need to choose it.
Salah will bite ya in the never regions mate…lol
So what is your chip strategy for FH and BB?
Not sure yet for chips, may use BB in 29 or wait for 34 after WC in 33. FH in 32 or 37.
Plan is to sell Salah for Maddison for 28.
im currently looking at FH29, WC33 and BB34
Good plan only disadvantage will be you will have strong bench that you can’t use.
Hopefully by then I will know where I am in my ML, and give me a good chance of changing my team around.
Rumour is GW34 is apparently a bigger dgw anyway.
Plan to BB in 29 and FH in 32. But if 34 is a biggie then we’ll have to see. Probs City, Pool, BHA, Utd doubling isn’t it?
As far as Salah is concerned I will get back at some point. Sold on my WC in last round and was apparently only 10 pts down on what I would have been with the Pool lads in. Still rose 260k places (from 900k to about 640k spot) – rather jammy!
Rumour is gw34 is bigger, but no-one seems to want to confirm it..lol
I am up, or down to 696k. Not my highest OR this season as yet, but I will get there
Current gw27 team.
FTx1
ITB: 0.7m
Not sure whether to bring in another dgw player. If I did, was thinking a Brentford defender for Tarks. That would help for bgw28
Chip strategy is FH29, WC33, BB34
Bench Tarkowski do Patterson to a Brentford player?
5 over the next 3 look good. You can’t get mee but any of the others
Thats a good call Gavy.
It is between Henry and Pinnock. Pinnock seems to be in better form, so looks like he will be making a way into the team,
You could get mee if you did Tarks. it’s not the best game but he plays 28 so might not do that.
Both look good, hope it falls the right way for you
Gavy, agreed. Tarks was on the radar to ditch, but it means getting rid of another gw28 player. Need as many as I can get, even if only a 1 or 2 point a game. They all count at this stage of the ff season.
Patterson is a no brainer to ditch, and Pinnock is probably the next best option to bring in.
I’m with Gavy on this one
+1
Hi all,
So wildcard week for me, how about this team? I’m slightly concerned to only have 10 play next gameweek (after 1 FT), but hoping it’s the right mix of quality and DGWs to come. Looking to BB GW29.
Thanks all.
I’m not sure about spending the cash on Alisson, especially as they have difficult fixtures in 29. Perhaps go for Kepa or another cheap keeper. May be just bank the cash for a later GW. One other thing to think about is Kane v Haaland short term, but that comes with risks.
Thank you, that’s helpful.
I did -4 to get Toney. Shall I take another hit and do Digne to Henry or keep as it is?
Depends how you are doing in your ML.
Will you be guaranteed to get that extra -4 back?
I am on top of my mini league at the moment.
Hard to say but Henry will have 5 games in next 3 and Digne didn’t play 90 minutes.
Then go for it mate.
I will be ditching Patterson for a Brentford defender – albeit Pinnock
