Fantasy Football FF247 Team Game-week 8

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 22.25.15Four straight green arrows, a spot inside the highly coveted 2 million (yes, at this stage a ranking inside 2 million is coveted) was finally on the cards for this underperforming side. Only problem was the game-week started and we started to capitulate faster than an EPL team in the Champions League. We dropped close to 200k spots and now sit a long, long way from respectability. 38 points is usually a score that one would hope are among the lowest of the season. However in our case that is not only our score for GW7 it is our average for the season so far. Let us give a quick, very quick recap of what our players did before we tell you our plans for GW8, so you know what not to do.

In goal we had our new transfer Boaz Myhill and boy did he not disappoint. Lad fit right in with the rest of the squad scoring 1 big point. By the way who suggested a Myhill transfer anyway? Zzzzzz

On defence we scored 101, sorry 1, 0 and 1. It was sad to see our premium defender Kolarov unable to match the exploits of the rest of the defence. As Naughty and Francis joined exciting new transfer Boaz Myhill with 1 point for the GW. So that was a grand total of 3 points from our 3 defenders and keeper. Good work there by the committee, I am sure they have a plan to fix it. 😉

Moving to our midfield, we see some definite hits and some unfortunate misses. Our two highest scorers of the game-week Sanchez (20 points) and KDB (7) resided in this area of the pitch. However we missed on Pedro and Mahrez as neither managed more than 2 points. Now here is the smart part. We had our captain and vice-captain in our midfield, go ahead and guess which pair we chose, the former or the latter? Yeah, that is the story of our season so far. Sanchez was floated as a captain choice by someone in the committee, but as all good ideas have been this season, it was ignored. We might be doing crap, but I least we are consistent. Speaking of bad ideas, let us look at our forwards.

What else did you expect? Of course we had the golden trifecta. Wilson, Aguero and Gomis. As we all know Wilson was badly injured, Gomis is crap and Aguero is pretending to be useless. Four points is all we garnered from our 3 strikers. Good thing we brought in the super fantastic Boaz Myhill when we had a chance to use a transfer. Can’t wait to see what exciting transfer we will make this week? Onto the transfers then to see who we are going to curse this week.

Transfer(s) for GW7 – Sold Wilson & Pedro, Bought Vardy & Payet

Our hand was somewhat forced this week as we were forced to deal with the long-term injury sustained by Callum Wilson. One member of the management team strongly advocated that we just sell Wilson and bank our 2nd FT and this would then give us greater flexibility following the international break. However we had no further cash in the bank meaning we had just £5.7m to spend on Wilson’s replacement and we didn’t fancy anyone in that price bracket. Therefore the decision was made.

As soon as it was decided that we would use both FT’s the obvious fall guy was Pedro, there were no dissenting voices. Having brought the Spaniard in on our WC ahead of GW5 he has banked us the scintillating total of 6pts. It was clearly time for the waster to sling his hook. It was briefly suggested that we replace Pedro with Juan Mata but this would have left us with no cash in the bank, at least Payet gives us some flexibility and lord knows we’re likely to need that flexibility in the near future. Payet brings us more than flexibility, he faces the league’s worst team this weekend and has some decent fixtures in the weeks ahead….famous last words!

With five goals in his last five games Vardy is the league’s form striker and while there were one or two murmurs suggesting it was unwise to double up on the Leicester attack Vardy was voted in and he joins Aguero & Gomis in our attack. There’s a lot resting on his shoulders.

Team Selection

The team has essentially picked itself this week, whether that’s a good thing is open to debate. In goal we’ve gone with Myhill, although McCarthy is unlikely to start so we didn’t have much of a choice. West Brom are yet to concede away from home this season so we have high hopes for Myhill. In defence the decision to bench Morgan and Oxford was quite an easy one as Leicester are yet to keep a clean sheet while Oxford has lost his place. In midfield Westwood was bought to sit on the bench and he does his job better than most in our team

Captain
Our captain this week is Sergio Aguero
To use an old cliche, insanity is often described as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Surely Aguero has to deliver this weekend? It’s Newcastle, he has to! We’re yet to pick a decent captain this season which is possibly one of the reasons for our lowly position. That’s all about to change this week, we believe in you Sergio.

Our vice-captain is Dimitri Payet

Worth doing Sterling -> De Bruyne/Silva for a -4 point hit or just leave it as it is and wait until next week?

Struggling to score points this season. Think I may wildcard today. Thoughts? Potential cuts: wanyama, Richards, bentaleb, Gomis (starting to slow). I have 6.9 in the bank.

Looks a definite WC to me. I’d keep Kolarov, Mata, Mahrez, Vardy and Aguero and bin everyone else. Could even lose Kolarov and go triple City attack for this run. Silva, De Bruyne and Aguero or something.

    Good people,

I’ve only got three playing defenders this week, including Sagna who could miss out with Zab being back. So I’m thinking Gomez > one of Bertrand/Alderw. But then I really wanted to wait until the end of the intl break. What do you think I should do?

Also, which of my front 8 would you bench? They could all flop or go mental, it’s quite a difficult one…

      NIN says:

Hi Los Machos. Hmm, tough one there. Maybe lose McAuley for Evans and play him instead of Francis, leaving the latter to come in for Sagna if that goes bad for you. As for the attack, bleh, i’d play Pedro in pace of Gomis but either way it’s a tough call, that.
