Fantasy Football FF247 Team Gameweek 6

GW5 was a bit mixed for us to say the least! Your captain often makes or breaks a game-week for you. For whatever reason, we can’t remember why, we went for Diego Costa and he duly delivered a grand total of 2 points! Evidently we weren’t alone in that respect so all was not lost. Stand out performances, from an FPL point of view, from Angel Di Maria, Raheem Sterling and Danny Welbeck meant that we finished on a respectable, if somewhat uninspiring, 46 points. Our defence was awful with just five points between the sorry lot. ‘I am’ Vito Mannone got double that on his own. We’ve got Mannone. Guess where he was? Yep! We finished the week with an overall rank of 43,265. It’s not ground breaking by any means but at this stage we are happy enough and with over 3.7m players it still leaves us in the top 1.5% of players.

Transfer for GW6
If you’d said pre-season we would be having an office brawl come GW6 over whether to bring in Michael Duff or Alan Hutton, in order to bench one of them for the foreseeable future, we’d have said you were mad. Well, we’ve just had an office brawl over whether to bring in Michael Duff or Alan Hutton in order to bench one of them for the foreseeable future!

Truth is we all looked at our team and we were all very content with it. As one should be having only just used the wildcard two weeks ago. We were that happy with it last week that we didn’t make a transfer and as a result we had 2 FT’s this week. Mindful that we would lose one if we didn’t do anything we started to plan ahead and looked at who we may be likely to transfer in soon given the fixture list. Looking at Evertons fixtures we decided that after GW7 Leighton Baines may be our aspiration. To be fair, some disagreed so we give you prior notice now that come GW8 there may be some casualties and mayhem again! In order to perhaps, (maybe, maybe not, let’s see) facilitate the Baines move we needed funds. In that respect we decided that Moreno of Liverpool was perhaps surplus to requirements and so he was the fall guy this week. We acquired him on the back of a terrific performance at Spurs but it has become quite evident that Liverpool are still as porous as last season and are lacking that edge so far going forward.

Moreno has gone then, to be replaced with Alan Hutton. Not the most inspirational or innovative of transfers we grant you, but hear us out on this one! We are all about planning ahead. We like our starting 11 as it is. We have sufficient back up to rotate for the next few weeks. Hutton is effectively our ‘sleeper’. He will be deployed on our bench for the next few weeks until Villa enter a more favourable phase, fixture wise. We have basically done a transfer that will benefit us in a few weeks time given a lack of any other issues to deal with now and with a view to raising funds for the ‘Baines Battle’.

Having done that transfer we have banked a cool £1m on a player we wouldn’t have played anyway and we have replaced him with one that we will be glad to have in a few weeks time (we think/hope!) There are still some tough decisions to be made in the weeks ahead if we are to get Baines but make them we will!. Either way. We now have £1.3m in our ‘Baines Bank’!

Captain
We have chosen to give the armband to Costa. Again. Last week against City it was a bit of a risk and it didn’t pay off but this week we feel that whilst it’s the obvious choice, sometimes you just need to go with the obvious. Villa at home, for the hottest property in English football, seems too good to ignore. Sure enough Villa have been getting results but they shipped three last week to Ozil and Welbeck. Chelsea have looked great so far and Costa has been sensational. Should something befall Costa we have chosen Aguero as our vice-captain. Away at Hull he should produce the goods and as a member of our team we hope he does but just not as much as Costa!

Gameweek 5 Team (in text form – as promised!)

Defenders: Alderweireld – Taylor – Wilson
Midfielders: Di María – Fábregas – Sigurdsson – Sterling
Strikers: Welbeck – Costa (c) – Agüero (vc)

Morning. My 2FT’s are doing my head in.

What do you think to these moves.

    Welbeck to Ulloa
    and
    Krul to Hart?

I wouldn’t do the first one mate, Welbeck is a great option at least while Giroud is out.

Cheers Albertini. I cant do the Hart move without the first one. Thinking that Hart & Ulloa will get more than Welbeck & Krul over the next 4/5 weeks so think I am going to do it

Not sure I would change Ulloa for Welbeck – Leicester probably do have the better fixtures for the next two weeks but after that (i.e. GW8 onwards) Arsenal’s run is quite tasty and they are obviously the team who is going to do better and, by extension, score more goals.

I would then say Krul for Forster based on Southampton’s form and the fact they have 4 home games in the next 6 weeks (as well as decent enough away fixtures).

Is anyone tempted by Mane at Southampton as a bit of a differential in the next few weeks? By all accounts he played well in midweek and his record for his previous team (albeit in the Austrian league) was pretty spectacular for a midfielder…
