Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 6
Welcome to Fantasy Football Fixture Analysis Gameweek 6. I don’t often do fixtures articles, instead you usually find me writing Captain Picks or Tips and that is mainly due to the fact I love a differential. They love my off the wall picks, I think (hope), so always lets me share with you all those risky players! Maybe they just wanted to see if I can do the bleeding obvious and simply tell you which fixtures are good, and which are bad, as a test. But they obviously doesn’t know me that well!
This week I am going to stick to a best and worst fixtures format but only for the ‘weaker’ teams. I am not going to be telling you that City are great, and Chelsea are good, so load up on them players etc. If you can’t figure that out for yourself… turn off the computer, sit in a quiet room and question your existence! This week I will take you through some differential teams that have some nice fixtures coming up and jumping on board one or two of their players could be what helps you move up the rankings.
The reason behind this is the ‘big boys’ are about to start their European campaigns with Man City, Man United, Liverpool and Spurs in the Champions League while Arsenal and Chelsea will ply their trade in the Europa League. Cookie already covered all this in depth here. Not only is European football back but the Carabao Cup is also returning next week.
The all important FPL FIXTURE TRACKER itself…
Favourable Fixtures
Leicester (Huddersfield (H), Newcastle (A), Everton (H))
I am including Leicester first here as a quick glance at not only their next three fixtures but their matches all the way to GW16 show a brilliant opportunity to grab points. The only ‘big team’ Leicester play from now until GW16 is Arsenal and the Gunners are not defensively solid so even that game isn’t too much of a worry.
The first of this nice run sees the Foxes welcome the Terriers to the King Power. Leicester may be coming off a 4-2 loss, but Huddersfield have not won a single match this season only scoring 2 goals in 5 games. Leicester on the other hand have scored in every game this season so grabbing attacking cover against a poor Huddersfield team could be a shrewd move.
Next up for Leicester is an away trip to Newcastle and then going back home to host Everton. These games could prove tricky for Claude Puel and his men, but they are winnable or can be drawn. Between Everton and Newcastle, they have only kept one clean sheet, so goals should be rife in these games and point again to having Leicester attack in your side. I will leave it to Kop later in the week to possibly tip players from Leicester, but I would recommend getting someone.
Watford (Fulham (A), Arsenal (A), Bournemouth (H))
Next up are the high-flying hornets, I am probably looking more so at form over fixtures here as Watford are playing some brilliant football and are really impressing me so far this season. I saw a little bit of their last game against Man United and I will say they were unlucky not to earn a draw. An amazing last-minute stop from De Gea meant United took all 3 points but it could have easily been 1 point apiece. Watford are showing a type of doggedness that we previously saw in miracle season winners Leicester. Now I am not saying Watford are going to win the league but if they can keep these performances up I can’t see why a Europa League place is out of their grasp.
First up is a relatively easy fixture on paper as Watford play Fulham in a London derby and with Fulham having not kept a clean sheet all season the likes of Deeney, Gray and Pererya will be licking their lips at the chance to get at this leaky defence. Another London derby follows the Fulham game as Watford play near neighbours Arsenal in a match that could see plenty of goals. Both sides are attacking this season, but Watford have kept a clean sheet whereas Arsenal have not, this would point the match slightly in Watford’s favour, but the calibre of player should see Arsenal cause problems for Javi Garcia’s men.
After these two away games against London rivals, Watford return home to play fellow highflyers, Bournemouth. This game sees two of the leagues surprise packages come up against each other and could either provide plenty goals or a drab 0-0. Either way Watford should continue their brilliant form over the next few games and I hope they do as I really am enjoying their style of play!
Bournemouth (Burnley (A), Palace (H), Watford (A))
Bournemouth are a confusing team right now for me, they are doing the business but not exactly setting the world alight with their playing style. Eddie Howe stated that over the international break Bournemouth went training with the SAS! What they did exactly he wouldn’t say but hopefully the main takeaway is all guns blazing and the most recent game saw the Cherries bang in 4 goals. Now I didn’t get to see the game but if they start scoring loads of goals we will all be happy. Well, you will if you own any of them.
Firstly they come up against a Burnley side that are all over the place this season with only 1 draw and 4 losses. The usually solid defence from last season has leaked 10 goals in 5 games and I can’t see this changing too much. If Wilson can get on the ball enough then we could see even more goals go into Joe Hart’s net this weekend. After the trip to Burnley, Bournemouth welcome Crystal Palace to the seaside in what could be a big test for Steve Cook and co. as Zaha is trying to prove a point it seems and is really in a mood where he’s ready to take everyone one on, even the FA! (see his interview after this weekend’s game). As mentioned above Bournemouth then travel to Watford.
Unfavourable Fixtures
West Ham (Chelsea (H), Man Utd (H), Brighton(A))
West Ham finally picked up some points this season after a 3-1 win over Everton. This will ease the pressure on Manuel Pellegrini and his players but the next 5 games see them play Chelsea, Man United and Spurs which does not make for good viewing if you are a Hammer. Up first is Chelsea at home in the London Stadium which should see another loss to the West Ham team. Chelsea are scoring at least 2 goals a game and have 14 in total for the season so Fabianski will be busy, but it could result in plenty of save points for the former Arsenal stopper. If West Ham survive that Chelsea game, then they face another home game as Man United are next to visit the Hammers ground (I have many long standing issues with its actual name!). This could be an easier task for West Ham as Man United are finding wins but they are not proving very convincing in those games. If Arnie continues his assists and goals and if Yarmolenko builds on his brilliant performance against Everton, then a shock could be on the cards, but it would still be a massive one.
West Ham then visit the seaside as they travel to Brighton and it could be a game they win but I still wouldn’t be rushing to grab any Hammers, such as Zabaleta! Most people his age in Brighton will be found taking a leisurely stroll down the pier.
Cardiff (City (H), Burnley (H), Spurs (A))
Next five sees them play City, Spurs and Liverpool so I don’t see Cardiff doing much over the coming weeks and even the coming season. Cardiff will probably spend most of the season in the relegation zone and if they are in a battle to stay up by the seasons end that will be a positive for them. Five games in and the Bluebirds have no wins and 2 draws. They have gotten Chelsea and Arsenal out of the way and in five more games they will have played Man City, Spurs and Liverpool so you could argue that by November their fixtures will improve, and they could go on a run that launches them up the table but looking at this exact moment I would stay well away from Neil Warnock’s men.
Liverpool (Southampton (H), Chelsea (A), City (H))
Now I know I said I will not mention the big six, but I will mention Liverpool. You may raise your eyebrows by seeing them in their unfavourable section especially looking at their Premier League fixtures in the next few weeks which sees Southamption, Chelsea, City, Huddersfield and Cardiff. People may say that Liverpool are looking likely to beat anyone right now and that they always play better against the big teams, but I have added them in here because I think Klopp will rotate the team a good bit over the next month. Cookie wrote last week about the Champions League and that is the main reason I included Liverpool here as they are about to embark on one of the hardest runs of fixtures I have seen in a long while. Games against PSG, Napoli, City and two against Chelsea in both the league and the Carabao Cup mean Liverpool will be facing some tough teams and that is without looking at Southampton who also perform as if they know they are actually auditioning to be a part of Klopp’s team next season. I am not saying dump all your Liverpool cover, but I am warning you to beware you could be stung a few times as Klopp has already shown he is not afraid to bench even Henderson, to rest him for PSG.

***NEW ARTICLE – FIXTURES GW6***
GW5 is dead, long live GW6!
Whether you enjoyed GW5 (Hazard / Fraser owner), or not (didn’t own Hazard / Fraser!) then it matters not now as Matt gets us on our way to planning for the next celebration / debacle!
Many thanks for your time and effort on this Matt, really good and useful piece this.
Bournemouth training with the SAS, eh? I must remember that.
The article’s full of good stuff. Cheers for taking the time and trouble.
Currently have 0.7 ITB which is just enough to swap Ings for King. Ings got the pen today, but is our next week. Not sure if I should hold him or make what appears to be a short-term swap. I currently have two free transfers so I could also use it on Pedro or Aguero (if he’s not fit to play)
Depends on what your cover is like?
Doesn’t sound like you’re that convinced. Ings isn’t a bad player to have. Bournemouth have the fixtures though so maybe see it as a longer term move. Or hedge your bets and bring in Fraser for Pedro and do something exciting with the change?
Actually, I’ll likely use my transfer on Mendy instead… the news does not sound too good
id keep mendy if he is out for say 1/2 games as long as u have defensive cover.
Agree with Eresh to keep him …saying that, it depends what you brought him for!? I got him at £6m so he’d have to drop by 0.3 for it to be worth it for me!
Think he was also out with Pogba and a couple of other players on Sunday night so wouldn’t have thought his injury was that bad and I’d expect him to be back very soon
evening redkev. u had a good gameweek. if only u gotten the hojbjerg points.
you think he is a nailed starter for southampton and a good 5th option to have when they dont play the top 6 teams?
Cheers Eresh, had a bad week last week so happy to see some green arrows again this week! How did yours go?
I know ….hate it when points like that are sat on the bench …especially when you’ve played a few 2 pointers! Tbh I wasn’t convinced on Hojberg(wanted Ward but 0.1 short) but he had low ownership and he’s had a couple of goals now so making himself hard to drop …so yeah kinda happy with him for time being(although a 2 pointer sat on bench would bring less regret ) hopefully he gets a couple of price rises soon too!
Averages are in, for anyone interested.
50 points for me which is not disastrous for a poor GW. And I beat average in a H2H league
#clutchesstraw
82 for me, might break into the top 10k. Unfortunately my H2H opponent in the FF247 Premier was Banjomaker so no win for me there
Great going Wafflez, well done mate! Apart from the Banjo bit obviously!
I’ll take solace in that Horse in that we both faired poorly! I take it you’ve stayed firm on Salah too then? Didn’t look like such a great decision last week but this week it may just.
Yes Initt. Hopefully Salah will get a few at the weekend.
Then it’ll be time to make a decision on him after that.
hey horse. activated my WC and i got in hazard for salah and kept mane. depending on who seems better tomorrow, ill make a decision on whether to get salah back or keep mane.
Same boat. Double edged sword if he indeed does though!
Well done Eresh. Good call on getting Hazard in. If I already had Hazard in my side I wouldnt buy Salah back for him this weekend. (Unless we hear some more pressing information this week)
thanks innit. 55 at the end of the week. tad bit above average and currently tied 2nd in my ML where my opponent had captained hazard.
56 here and lost my lead in my main ML to someone who did the same. Other than him though there was no real damage done. And he’s not one I usually worry about as he often collapses so all good!
glad to here its bit positive at the end innit
I rose from 5th to 1st, and overtook a Hazard capper, no less, in the process. Long live Arnie and Fraser.
he guys,
i join here with 55 also. without Haz it’s not really bad, but surely not enough..
glad i could resist on buying him on saturday evening and now i even feel that i might not need him neither
58 for me, which is fine in the context of my ML and not too bad at all. I was saved by King and Firmino and the W-B auto-sub.
My transfers in, Alonso and Neves, did me proud. But I’m sure the best is yet to come. None of my serious opponents had Hazard, though I’m sure some will this week.
I’m ignoring him again this week. Sort of counting on West Ham to turn up as they usually do for their ‘Cup Final’. Are you holding firm too?
Yes. Hoping not to make a transfer this week, not unless Mendy (or someone else) is out long-term. Whatever’s wrong with Firmino and Kun will hopefully correct itself
West Ham aren’t going to strike terror into Chelsea but I’m hoping Salah will knock in a couple to offset whatever happens there.
Ignoring Hazard is a mistake lads, personally I think Salah will get a rest Saturday don’t look the same to me, shaquiri to start I reckon
good point aarron. lets keep an eye out tomorrow on who does better: mane or salah. firmino is most likely back this weekend so klopp could rest either mane or salah.
That could happen, though one’d hope the breather will come after Saturday (with Salah certain to miss the Chelsea cup game next week). But we’ll see.
I know opportunity knocks for Shaq soon.
I think Hazard will score again this weekend, I think he’s playing well so he gets his move to Real Madrid, salah more than likely be rested I would have thought, can’t play the same 3 game in game out
Yeah makes sense, ignore the highest scoring player in the game :hippo: and he has done that while only playing 14 minutes and 29 minutes in the first two games. I get that West Ham get up for CFC, but the Hammers are a bad team and Pelligrini is not known for his defensive tactics. Plus if not now, you won’t want him for LFC right after that and if you pass up on him then, you will probably buying him for 11 million by then. Assuming he delivers anything vs the Hammers.
I get it, he has been inconsistent in the past, but he looks awesome right now. He looked terrifying in the first two games in limited minutes. I bought him before GW3 because of what I saw in those brief moments. He looks like the best player in the EPL right now. The one thing that has always bothered me about him is his lack of shooting, but he seems to be letting shots go this season and if he does that, wouldn’t be surprised if he is the top fpl scorer this season.
Oh dear. Sounds like someone’s angry at themselves for not captaining him this week 😉
Looks like someone is editing my comments to make it look that way. 😉
Not like you to be so brazen and lose your cool. Did Floydeth congratulating you (bizarrely) on winning the Contributors League mid GW5 go to your head?!
I don’t know what you are talking about. Just because it was said on the chat doesn’t mean I actually read it.
It literally just took me forever to find that. I kept looking through the 3 most common chats and it was on the site team chat. Who cares about that mini league. Only reason I like to place high in the league is because I know that if I do well in that league it probably means I will do well in the OR.
Hello all,
Disappointing GW after playing my WC, regret the decision not to bring in Hazard. Would it be a good idea to upgrade Pedro to Hazard and downgrade Auba to King/Wilson/another budget striker? Just concerned about Aguero’s possible injury, and that Auba could start firing (though maybe I’m a bit biased as an arsenal fan)
Not quite sure how you managed to play a WC and not include Hazard last week mate, especially with a side sans of Salah. I feel bad saying that but it’s better to be honest. I imagine you’ve thought the same yourself a number of times!
Auba should prove consistent but I’m not seeing him as having ‘explosiveness’ potential and at that price bracket I would want that. I think you move him on eventually and get Hazard instead. I wouldn’t particularly rush to do either this week though.
Why ain’t you got Hazard?
via GIPHY
I surely will at some point, when the time is right for my team. Just not happened upon that time yet. If I’d played my WC early then I’d have had him as he looked brilliant in the World Cup, better than I’ve ever seen him. Just haven’t wanted to waste my WC so early on just one player, that’s never a good strategy. And the rest of the squad haven’t warranted it.
Now please stop chasing my comments around the site with questions about Hazard because it’s becoming boring and tiredesome.
Highest score for a player I ever saw
Short memory?
Senile more like, don’t remember, sigh…
@ Veer. Wait to the end of the week and make your transfer(s) then.
See if Got yo pierre in mine as I’m also an Arsenal fan, think he’ll get goals soon, was thinking of putting lukaku in what do you think?
Cheers for this Matt, good stuff in there.
Question – choose one for the next 3-4 weeks, Fraser or Lucas Moura?
I take Fraser and the savings.
Isn’t Fraser injured?
No he is fine.
 Mito & Innit
Fraser. Fixtures are fairly equal but Fraser is nailed on, Moura not so much.
Fraser. Best sub 6m midfield option out there and I think he’ll get parity if not exceed Moura’s points’ tally.
Only thing to counter that is Spurs have got good fixtures coming up and need to win them all.
But getting Fraser may allow other upgrades.
Fraser, without a doubt. Have had him from the start, and haven’t regretted it. More nailed, attacking and good fixtures, and saves you money to invest elsewhere. And the kid is on fire.
