Fantasy Football Inside The Mind Of An FPL Player Gameweek 28
We asked our team of writers to provide us with an article looking at their plans ahead, and quite frankly we were met with a stony silence! Which just about sums up the current predicament / mindset of many an FPL player. It’s just so hard to judge or fathom at the moment. Even as we speak, we sort of know what the next couple of DGW’s look like, but we are still being ‘threatened’ with a Chelsea DGW in 28, which would perhaps throw another spanner in the works(?)*
*checks to see if you get points for chances missed… they’d be gold.
Just as we were about to walk away with our tail between our legs one lone hero emerged from the darkness. He had a big ‘X’ on his chest. So we shot at it. We didn’t, we aren’t Russian. We grabbed him, we hugged him, we pointed him in your direction.
Please all stand for this weeks Superhero Matt X, who was willing to bear his soul and put his thoughts out there on the weeks ahead and the strategies he may employ.
He’s also asked for feedback so please do him the favour of doing so, or at least put yours out there too to inspire others.

GW27 Review
The last edition of Inside the Minds was in GW22. The last time I wrote for Inside the Minds was in its first edition back in GW12! We are about to go into GW28, so it has been a long time since I have presented my team and thoughts to you all. In GW12, I was sitting all the way back in 852,194 and feeling pretty damn miserable. I have managed to increase my rank since then with the help from a brother and also the fact I have changed my FPL tactics over the last few weeks.
Two GW’s ago I was sitting at 601,287 and just decided to screw the game. I just couldn’t be arsed with it anymore. Whatever I did was wrong. If I was torn between two players, the one I picked did nothing and the one I didn’t pick would return. My most recent example is that week, Gameweek 25, when I was deciding between Tielemans or Benrahma. Playing against each other. One returning from AFCON, the other having done nothing in five games. I went with Benrahma… do any of you remember what happened? In case you don’t, let me remind you, Tielemans got 9 points after a goal and 2 bonuses whereas good ol’ Benji sat on his backside for 79 minutes before an 11-minute 1 point cameo!
This was the straw that broke the camel’s back and I vowed to just use the rest of this season as a mess about.
This has proven to be wonderous for my side as these last two weeks have seen me rise 211,680 places to 389,607. This is still a long way off where I want to be, and my target is always to get a five-digit rank. I feel I can still do that and maybe if this tactic of not caring, going a bit crazy with my differentials will end up paying off!
In GW26, I played my TC on the current best player in the world, Mo Salah. This was the best decision I made all year as the Egyptian scored a whopping 84 points!! Thankfully, Bruno, Dennis, Laca and Raphinha all returned for me, so I finished on a brilliant 144 points. My only mistake was playing Cancelo for 1 point over Livramento who ended up on 12. I won’t beat myself up over that one though!
GW27 has been pretty nice to me so far. I am currently writing this before the Burnley and Leicester match so it can surely only get better. I am sitting pretty on 60 points with Pope and Weghorst left to play. Hopefully Weghorst will score, and Pope will keep a clean sheet. If I was to only get one of those wishes I would prefer for the clean sheet. Reason being everyone has the striker this week and according to LiveFPL I would gain 2,892 places for every point Pope gets compared to only 533 places for any point that Weghorst receives.
So far this week my 60 points is made up of a cleansweep at the back thanks to 9 from Cancelo and my double Saints defence of Bednarek and Livramento combining for 14 points. KaneSon were doing their thing getting 20 points, but my other players have kind of let me down. Broja blanked, Mahrez got a solitary point, Sterling forgot how to play and only scored 3 points. My biggest let down was probably captaining Bruno. United had 22 shots but only 3 of those were on target. Watford were blocking shots but overall United were just being wasteful with their shooting. On a different day, Bruno would have had a hattrick and possibly a few assists to go with it. The United and Watford game ended 0-0 but really should have finished with a cricket score in the Mancs favour.
Let’s go Pope and Weghorst to bump my score even more! (They sort of did… by 3 points!).

This is my GW22 squad as it stands.
Transfer plans
Before I started writing this article, I was torn between playing my WC or just doing a -4 hit. I was thinking of just doing Bruno and Dalot to Couthino and Digne. It was then announced that Chelsea would have a double in 28 if they either beat Luton or Norwich beat Liverpool. This should pretty much confirm a double as I can see Chelsea wanting to avenge their EFL Final loss. That turned my attention to Mount and Ruds instead.
I’m pretty torn on WC but leaning towards playing it. If I don’t play the WC I will be doing the -4 above. I would then WC in 35 and BB in 36. That will be all my chips used and hopefully put me inside my target rank.
Now if I do play my WC this week, I thought I would give you the players I would be targeting.
Sá – Dubravka
TRENT – CANCELO – White – Cash – RUDIGER
SALAH– Saka – RAPHINIA – WILLOCK – DewsburyHall
Weghorst – Kane – Adams
The names in capitals are those I think are nailed in any draft I make. Now let me run you through my reasonings. Sá has a great run of fixtures including a double in 28 plus playing in GW30. He could become Ramsdale however. Dubravka is a player for the BB as Newcastle have two doubles in a row.
Trent, Cancelo and Rudiger speak for themselves. White is a good player who could be swapped depending on what my goalkeeper ends up being. Cash is someone else I just stuck in and would likely be the next casualty. I could drop him down to a Dier, Schar or Livramento.
Kane is someone I might drop down to Laca and upgrade Saka to Son as I think one Spurs player is needed. Dewsbury-Hall is a cheap enabler who should start. Adams is someone I would like to keep but if needed I would downgrade to Broja for funds.
Let me know in the comments what you think I should do. Take the hit and save the WC for GW35 or hit that WC button and do it now. My team is the communities team now. Let’s see how my season ends!

***NEW ARTICLE – INSIDE THE MIND OF… MATT X!***
Many thanks Matt, great article and hopefully you get the help that you
clearlyneed!Needs lots of help mate! No worries at all!
Folks you decide this teams next steps. Tear it apart! Decide the strategy! Have a differential but are too afraid to do it? Use my team to gamble with!
Let’s just have fun with the remaining weeks and see what happens!
Playing for fun and rising up the ranks!! Great recovery Matt!
What are your thoughts on Chris Wood? Another DGW trap? LOOL
Has to be
Cheers Tiijayz. Wood is someone I won’t tough. Willock and Fraser are the attacking options I’m considering for Newcaslte.
Thanks for this writeup, appreciated.
Matt – thanks so much for your thoughts. We both seem to be synchronized atm, as I am hovering about the mid 300k after ascending to the heady heights of the 267k mark last week, from a similarly lowly position. However, it seems that we may be like 2 lifts who cross, one going up and the other sliding down!!! To avoid this, I have been tampering with a WC (and I don’t mean the one that’s leaking in the smallest room of the house!), which is none the very surprising, and seems like so many others (with a couple of ‘Rosco-friendly’ variations in the shape of a 2 week Newcastle triple up!).
This has given me real food for thought and thanks again for baring your innermost (FPL) soul to the FF247 faithful!
Cheers and good luck! 😉
Hey AJW! Cheers mate and hopefully the WC will see us both go back up! Definitely think Newcastle could be the differential side that people will ignore!
I said earlier on this season that I wanted to be like Rosco, so maybe this is a small way in which I can begin my quest! Cheers mate!?
Well done, Matt! As one of the silent responders, sorry I couldn’t get more involved this week – it’s looking like a tricky few weeks and I’venot got a clue myself . I’m tempted to WC next week.
I’m not convinced by Newcastle – the double gameweeks for the lower teams seem to be a bit if a trap recently (looking at you: Mee and Weghorst ) .
I’ve got the same benching headache with Cancelo!!
Haha cheers LA! I think Newcastle could be okay. I certainly wouldn’t wouldn’t capping them like people who capped Weghorst. Think Willock or Fraser are the best options. Maybe a defender but it’s a real pity Trippier is gone as he’d have been a great shout!
I’ve seen people consider selling Cancelo and I think that’s just too dodgy!
Nice work Matt! Definitely some food for thought in there.
