Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 1. And welcome back indeed, welcome to the start of yet another long season, welcome to another 38 weeks of joy, despair, trials, tribulations and challenges. We hope that you will once again enjoy joining us as we go through all the emotions together, share our thoughts and experiences, rejoice when our players score points, commiserate when they don’t, cry when they come off after 59 minutes and laugh when they concede in the last minute. Or something to that effect anyway.

GW1 sees us kick off with a Friday night game as the Champions of Europe host newly promoted Norwich at home. Doesn’t quite seem fair that does it, somehow? It’ll probably see plenty of Salah captainers get their first taste of the armband for the season anyway.

Champions Man City then get the first Saturday of the season going as they visit West Ham in the early kick off at 12.30pm.

In perhaps a sign of things to come our 3pm games are not only few but are also littered with the already seemingly cast aside ‘less interesting’ teams. Apologies to Bournemouth & Sheffield United, Burnley & Southampton, Palace & Everton and Watford & Brighton but that’s how it seems.

Champions League runners up Spurs host newly promoted Villa at home in the late KO at 5.30pm. Doesn’t quite seem fair that does it, somehow? It’ll probably see plenty of Kane captainers get their first taste of the armband for the season anyway….

Leicester and Wolves begin (share) our first Sunday with an intriguing encounter at 2pm, while Newcastle fans will be protesting against Arsenal at the same time. Well ok, not protesting Arsenal, protesting Ashley, but you know what we mean…

A clash of the old titans sees GW1 out as Chelsea visit Old Trafford at 4pm.

The games in full…

Keep track of all the action, the goals, the talking points, right here at FF247 Live Match Chat, an interactive chat which encourages you to keep involved and share your thoughts and emotions as the matches take place.

Good luck to absolutely everyone for Gameweek 1 from all at FF247!

I am late getting in on the chat. First match in the books so good luck to everyone over the next 2 days. 34 pts not too bad from 3 players. :good:

I think I don’t have to remind you folks that Pukki means GOAT in Finnish!!! Amazing to be a Finn right now, great to have such a Finnish player in the Prem, it’s been a while!! :drinks:

Well deserved goal zed. Norwich showed some threat tonight and didn’t give up

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah I do think Norwich will stay in the prem, they showed some good energy going forward, unlike some teams who have just tried to park the bus in order to stay alive…

i can imagine how proud you are as i’m hungarian and there’s nobody in the pl from my country since Gera..

on a side note, Pukki means fart in hungarian laugh

      • And in Cantonese, Pukki is rather rude.. literally means “fall on street”, but culturally a very common swear word.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Really, that’s interesting, I prefer the Finnish (which obviously is the original) meaning, GOAT 😎

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Well, they say Finnish and Hungarian languages are related 😆

        • hammers says:

Wont tell you what it means in Filipino – unless of course you like cats

        • Kralin says:

I have a vague memory that it’s a slang word in Sinhala as well, meaning arse, though that may be pronounced ‘puka’.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Now that we’re on the subject, I remember when I was in Cambodia (they don’t speak English that well there) someone referred to the trunk by saying “arse car”…. Always thought that was a very creative way to speak English…

        • Kralin says:

I never really minded the simplified way you have to communicate when, in the early days of being away, you don’t know enough of the host language (other than the obvious stuff) and the host doesn’t know enough of yours. It’s not unpleasant to communicate in that stripped down way.

At the endless sound of dogs barking in the night I just said ‘wanker dogs’ and that stuck, and I heard it a lot afterwards.

Isn’t Finnish a fairly new language, relatively speaking, or have I got that wrong? Maybe suppressed?

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Depends on what you mean by “relatively speaking” but I think it evolved from a Proto-finnic language around 1000 BC, so 3 or so thousand years ago, now whether that is new or old is up to debate smile

        • Kralin says:

I’m probably getting confused with it not being the official language (in the past) – I was listening to something about Sibelius and nationalism the other day – ignore my ramblings.

        • That’s brilliant Kralin. I’d like to think that ‘wanker dogs’ is still a part of that localities lingo today as a result, and that they don’t now remember how or why it is!

        • Zed Leppelin says:

How about tosser cats? You could evolve a whole new dialect out of that!

        • I’m making emojis for wanker dogs and tosser cats 😎

      • Elleffcee says:

Norwich were ok with the ball and absolutely shite without it, didn’t have a Scooby Doo without possession.

Bit of a bugger the Pool lost the CS let’s see how the rest of the fixtures go

If alison is going to be out for a few weeks dose the back 4 of liverpool lose some value?

      Leprechaun says:

Adrian is a good keeper but he is not Alisson and he is new to Liverpool, if not to the EPL. It will be interesting to see how quickly he adapts to the team and how it affects the confidence level of the defenders. VVD is such a strong leader that I hope they will perform just fine.
In any case much of the fantasy attraction is also their goals and assist numbers. Yesterday was a good case in point.
Bottom line, I don’t think you have to sell them anytime soon.

Happy new season, everyone! (Yeah yeah yeah I know, I only post when I’m winning and all that – see y’all next season then smile )
I note there are already 5m+ players – mostly genuine ones at this stage I presume. Although I was one of the lucky people to pick VVD and to captain Salah, I still find I’m outside the top 250k. Oh well…
