Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 14
Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 14. We are entering a busy FPL week with no less than 3 game-weeks covering the next 10 days. Game-week 14 kicks off tonight with a visit across the Severn for Wolves – Cardiff will be sniffing blood after watching Huddersfield tame Nuno’s pups last week.
Saturday then brings us six matches – first up we have five 3pm kick-offs as Palace host Burnley, Brighton go to Huddersfield, Leicester welcome Watford, Bournemouth try and stop Pep’s rampant machine and Arnie and his Hammers limp up to Newcastle.
The evening match sees Jose coming up against someone worse off than himself as United travel to Southampton.
Sunday sees our final three matches of GW14 before thoughts turn to the quick turnaround to GW15!
And it’s Derby Day all round as Chelsea host Fulham, Spurs go to Arsenal before Liverpool and Everton wrap things up for us.
The games in full…

Hi good folks
I am thinking of wildcarding my team.
Should I do it this gw?
And whom should i get/replace?
Thanks very much!!
Opps this is my team .
I don’t think you need to WC this week particularly. Not saying it’s not almost due but your team seems fine for this one.
Maybe the heavy Wolves’ presence is making you nervous, but Doherty is a fine bench player (at least). The team doesn’t look in the need of a wildcard to me; on the other hand, the clock is ticking now for non-wildcarders.
+ 1. when does the 1st wc need to be used by? before gw20?
Yes eresh.
thats cool. best of luck to you and the rest.
Hello all and good luck in th weekends games,
2FT
Ederson
Robbo Alonso Laporte
Martial Hazard Mane Richalison
Aguero Jimenez Wilson
Boruc AWB Doherty Højbjerg
Should I:
A. Robbo + Jimenez -> Arnie + TAA
B. Mane + Laporte -> Sterling + Keane
C. Other?
You don’t fancy Kane / another Spurs’ asset?
Re City, if Sane is as nailed as people are saying, he may be worth a ponder.
Also thinking of Mane + Laporte -> Sterling + Keane
Only asset for Spurs I like is Kane, and don’t think its worth getting rid of Kun for.
how would you get Kane if you sell Mane & Laporte, do you need to sell Aguero or?
Yes, the Kane for Kun move is something I’ve kicked down the road for now. In making that move I would be removing all City from my team.
So if I do do it I want City in my midfield, and that’s Sterling or Sane. The latter’s apparent nailedness makes him appealing. And I can bring him in easily. But Sterling is the one I’d want more.
Sorry Keane, I though you are talking about Kane
Hey LRL,
You could think about Haz & Kun to Kane & Sterling/Sane, depending on cash
I am looking to replace mendy this midweek. who would you choose between dunk and balbuena? my other 4 are doherty, alonso, robbo and AWB
I’m actually looking at Balbuena myself. Not sure why though other than some fixtures that look decent on paper, which is probably dangerous given how their ‘defence’ has ‘performed’ so far! I did pose an open question about it last night (comment 14) asking for feedback from any of their fans. It’s yet to get a response though I think, let’s see what they say later if anyone sees it. (They will be forced to! 😉 ).
oh that’s good to know. i hope they respond later in the day
Hey Init,
Balbuena seems to be a first choice, in a bad team, that has reasonable fixtures coming up.
What’s your question?
PS I am a Liverpool fan so not really helping
I wrestled with that knotty problem this GW and in the end went for Balbuena. His fixtures soothed me. Dunk ran him close though and Schindler nearly pipped him at the post.
+1 on Schindler.Cheap a threat from set pieces, nailed and some nice home fixtures coming up.
It was his price (and fixtures) that nearly led to him getting the nod.
Yoshida I also thought about (v cheap) but couldn’t be bothered to research whether he’s currently covering an injured player or is back in favour.
Hi all. Don’t usually post mid-GW about the next set of fixtures, but conscious that GW15 starts on Tuesday and my WC is burning a hole in my pocket. Do you think this team needs a WC? I have enough in the bank to do Aguero to Kane. I don’t think it’s a bad team, but my concern is that some of the players are probably ‘due’ a rest, so my WC could be used to pre-empt it. The obvious risk is that they all play and it comes back to bite me!
Cheers
Honestly mate, I can see you wildcarding that to pre-empt rotation and making a complete arse of it.
I really like your squad as is and would carry on as you have it for another week anyway. Especially with the next deadline only being Tuesday.
If you have funds for Aguero to Kane then that’s probably the move for me.
Cheers, GP. I think that is the way I am leaning. I don’t think I’ve ever held my WC past GW4 before (or, if I have, maybe GW6 or something once), so I’m at a loss with what to do with it! On my WC I’d probably bring in Sterling and/or Sane anyway, and that could easily backfire.
I transferred in David Silva this week believing him to be the best value for money and most reliable of the City midfielders for consistent points.
Are you not worried of KDB coming back soon(ish)?
No.
Definitely doesn’t NEED a WC, but soon you have to use it anyway, depends on whether you want to shake it up a bit to get Sterling/Spurs assets…
This is why I was thinking of doing it, although the fact I can do Kane to Aguero (who I assume will be benched midweek) does make me hesitate
Yeah Aguero will most likely be benched midweek (unless he’s benched today 😆 )
Kane would be an ideal captain option midweek though, Aguero could be benched, all the City mids could be benched, risky capping them, Salah could be benched, it would be Arnautovic/Richarlison/Kane really…. The problem for me is I can’t do Aguero –> Kane in one move.
Oh god, don’t tempt fate, Zed!
I know, and I’m writing the captains article this week. May as well just copy and paste ‘risk of rotation’ for them all
AT, you should just do what I do. Write the article without specifically referencing who people should pick.
Bry, you have a very unique skill set that means we all forget what the title actually was by the time we’re through with the intro!
Well, with being so busy at work I totally forgot that it was a Friday deadline and didn’t make any transfers. Let’s hope that is a blessing in disguise 🙂
Who’s your captain? 🙂
Aguero, same here mate! Let’s hope for a huge haul!
Yeah, the good thing is that I have this habit to arrange the formation after the last game of every round and leave the rest for later. I would have gone with Fabianski instead of Patricio but hey ho…
I do that too, always set up for the next GW after deadline (just in case)
Zed, I haven’t had a chance to read anything. Do we expect Hazard to play?
Yes we do!
Hi Ivan. Yes, Haz has been training and is expected to play.
Friday deadline almost caught me out too. I did Cedric to Balbuena in our doubles team so we didn’t lose an FT.
Hi Chips. Yes, I was surprised to not having any emails from you this morning. Then, I thought you would have taken the initiative and do the right move 🙂
I wish there was a way to automatically add Overall Rank to everyone’s profiles to make it easier to determine whose advice is more likely to be reliable than others.
Yeah that’s a fine idea. Would let you know who to listen to and indeed who to blame when your transfers go wrong wouldn’t it?
On many an occasion an overall rank is not necessarily relative to the quality of advice given.
Its very common for a manager to give sound advice on here and yet not follow their own advice for their team.
Anyway to answer your point, if folk link their team to their profile, you can see their rank easy.
Plus you can see their ranks in previous seasons easy, which would be even stronger indication of how “good” a manager is I reckon.
I completely agree Cookie. After all, you give some of the best advice on the site!! 😉
Didn’t see that one coming
I couldn’t resist
+1. if i have to name names, cookie, AT and Init give the best advice on here( no particular order)
AT is shite.
+1 😉
Hughes was a great shout, what you on about?
They might be above average I guess
@Mito :big-lol:
Sorry AT, that’s just funny.
Most of the profiles are linked to their teams mkencon, if you click on them you can check the OR. That said, even the ones with the best ranking can get it wrong in certain weeks 😉
good point mkencon. i like things the way they are and met some extraordinary fpl managers to help me become a better manager this season (only my 2nd fpl)
you can get varying amounts of advice from different managers but at the end of the day you go with your gut. i also agree with the people below that some advice works out and some don’t. the PL is an unpredictable and so should be the FPL.
I would never get asked to do Captain Picks if my ranks were a factor! 😉 Unless it’s because of my secret Paypal auto-debit arrangement I’ve got with Init.
In all seriousness though, it shouldn’t matter one jot what someone’s rank is. The advice should be evaluated on the strength of its argument alone. Someone just saying “Change this player for that”, without corroborating ‘why’ isn’t useful to anyone. Thankfully that doesn’t happen much on here, which is part of the reason why this site’s community is so great.
As the current world number 10 last night proved, a good rank doesn’t make you immune from making odd decisions! The same can be said about advice.
Ooh, what did he do Kop?
Took a -8, played bench boost and capo’d AWB.
Really? Yikes. I seriously didn’t think he’d take my advice!
Ha ha quality
