Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 18

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 18. The silly season officially begins here. We have no less than 40 games spanning the next 14 days taking in 4 GW’s in total. We can but recommend you stick close to both our Fixture Tracker and our on-site Countdown Timer to keep track of when each GW begins, but as a helpful little ditty to perhaps take a ‘snap of’, the deadlines are as follows (all times are GMT) –

GW18 Friday 21st December 7PM
GW19 Wednesday 26th December 11.30AM
GW20 Saturday 29th December 3PM
GW21 Tuesday 1st January 11.30AM

As for this GW we begin on Friday and end on Sunday with the majority of the games on Saturday for a pleasant change. Wolves and Liverpool kick us off this evening as the current league leaders look to put the pressure on their chasers by extending their overnight lead to 4 points over Man City.

Saturday begins with many an FPL manager sweating over the Arsenal line-up as they play host to an ever increasingly tight Burnley side. Six 3PM kick-offs follow with Bournemouth and Brighton both looking to regain some sort of form, Chelsea hoping to continue their own pursuit against Leicester, Huddersfield look to stop the new beer flowing against the Saints, Man City probably playing catch up against Palace, Newcastle hoping Mitro doesn’t come back to haunt them and West Ham look for 5 wins in a row for who knows how long as they host Watford.

Saturday evening could be intriguing as Cardiff look to take 3 points off fellow strugglers Man United.

Our only game on a barren Sunday is Everton vs Spurs. Harry Kane may not know it but this could be his final rehearsal for many FPL managers, especially if Kun shows up on Saturday.

The games in full…

Keep track of all the action, the goals, the talking points, right here at FF247 Live Match Chat, an interactive chat which encourages you to keep involved and share your thoughts and emotions as the matches take place.

Good luck to absolutely everyone for Gameweek 18 from all at FF247!

Few weeks back I sold [Robertson + Hojberg + Arnie (when injured)] > [Cheap Def + Anderson + Jimenez]. Selling Robo is my worst decision as I started the season with him. Now I have 2 struggles:
    (1) I have 8 attackers – which is giving me selection dilemma every week. Bench looks better though – especially during Christmas (but thats in theory so far and I have not got any benefit till now)
    (2) I don’t have a POOL Def. Wanted to pick TAA, but he also got injured afterwards. Hope he comes back soon.

I generally play with 7 attackers in 3-4-3/3-5-2 and 1 bench fodder.
(Q1) Is it a good strategy to have 8 attackers? How do you manage?
(Q2) Fraser and Wilson holders – are you planning to keep both long term? Or Loose 1 – which one? Or both?

      1) I hate having 8 attackers think it’s just a lot more beneficial pumping money into the starting 11. I currently have it but it’s rare and I won’t for much longer
      2) I have just Fraser and he will be going this week or next on wildcard

I think the general given feeling in this is that you’ll inevitably leave the ‘wrong’ attacker on the bench each week and therefore the popular strategy is to have someone of 4.5 who can be relied upon to come on if needed but you won’t be too upset if they are there scoring the odd goal. Far easier in the opinions of many, to know that you’ll bench the 4.5 regardless each week – makes one less difficult decision each week.

      1) I have never had 8 attackers, you don’t need 3 playing bench players as very rarely you need all 3, plus defenders at 4.5m are just so much better than the attackers at 4.5m, so I usually have a 4.5m mid/forward as bench fodder who’s 3rd on the bench and two cheap defenders who are 1st and 2nd on the bench who will come in if my starting players don’t play. Also like Smashers I like to pump the money into the starting 11!

      hey GM
      1. I dont. I have Stephens as bench fodder.
      2. I sold Fraser and Auba for Hazard and Ings this week. I may look to Wilson. Seems a lot of points in midfield atm with strikers being less prolific

      Hi GM,

      1. You’ll probably appreciate having the 8 at some point over the next 4 weeks but generally speaking I’m with the others and have 7 plus a fodder. As it is now I have Kamara as that fodder which is sort of ideal given his price.

      2. I only recently got Fraser on a WC and he’s gone for Hazard this week already. After today I wouldn’t be too concerned not having either for a good few weeks. I may look at Wilson once their fixtures ease.

I got Martial for Billing on purpose given the Christmas period. Have Sane and Sterling, so walking on thin ice. Either could be benched. Hence having a playing 8th attackin option helps here i guess. I’d anyways get Kamara for either Wilson/Mitrovic and play 3-5-2 by upgrading one of the rest two forwards

Thank you all…looks like we have the same strategy of 4.5m budget 8th attacker. I did not really plan for 8 attackers – but somehow it was one of those quick last minute decision and a bit messed up. Now that I got it, will probably try to carry on with it for next 10-15 days of busy schedule – that means 2-3 more tough decisions. I want to get Haz, but not finding any avenue to fit him in (without sacrificing either of Salah or Kane and probably downgrading Alonso – but thats a big change and will take weeks without hit). I have taken -28 so far; last season it was -116, 2 seasons back -84…so marginally improved in keeping patience. smile

Plenty of games today – hope it goes well for all. I have a fear that Sane (C) selection might go wrong compared to Salah…can he get 12 points? Salah also got 1 bonus for a change.

How are you all doing compared to your previous seasons? Happy with the proceedings?

I sold Salah a few weeks back. Brought in Hazard over him this gw as felt he might have been the better captain choice.

Tis a hard game to play at times

Have you seen the highest points team? It looks like one of those cash league teams but TC Van Dijk was either great presentiment or just pure luck.

    After Salah antics last night
I need Auba sane and Kane to turn up and smash it.
Van dyk looks class act doesn’t he

Hi all thinking ahead to next week on a hypothetical. I’d have two fts and can do the following. Alonso, Fraser, Eriksen and Auba to Digne, Hazard, Salah and Kamara. What do you guys think? It’d be for a minus 8. Purely hypothetical but allows a good solid midfield and rotation options of the bench.
