Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 5

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 5.
We have no less than seven games to get us back into the swing of things on Saturday and many a captaincy decision will be tested early doors as Liverpool host Newcastle in the first one at lunchtime.

We then have five 3pm games as Burnley visit Brighton for a clash of styles, a beleaguered Man United host a vibrant Leicester, Sheffield United look to continue where they left off against Chelsea as they play a Saints team unsure of their identity or ability, Spurs look to rediscover theirs as they face Palace and then Wolves look to shake off the Europa shackles when they face the kids of Chelsea.

Saturday draws to a conclusion as Man City hammer Norwich.

Sunday sees two games; in the first Bornemouth will be looking to kickstart their season with a win against Everton and the later game sees Watford host Arsenal.

We have a Monday game this week and it’s the ever improving and promising Villa against the seemingly never-improving and perpetualy disappointing West Ham.

The games in full…

Keep track of all the action, the goals, the talking points, right here at FF247 Live Match Chat, an interactive chat which encourages you to keep involved and share your thoughts and emotions as the matches take place.

Anyone feel that premium defenders aren’t the way forward. I have a draft wildcard ready with all 4.5 or below defenders. All can be rotated.
    Ryan, Button
    Tomori, Lunstrom, Engels, Masuako, pieters
    Son, Salah, Sterling, McGinn, Dedonker
    Pea, Abraham, Pukki

      Hi Redspida,

I have played my WC before this week, and I have done exactly that! I have a pround defense of 3×4.5 and 2×4.0 (initial values).
That has allowed me to afford a midfield of Salah, KBD and Sterling (along with Cantwell and Douglas Luiz), and the forwards Kun, Abraham and Pukki.

It would normally be against my strategy, since I generally think that defenders are often underestimated in the game. And it was against the advice of most member of the site, who were nice enough to comment on my team.
And frankly I understand. I would have given a similar advice in many other occasions.

But in the present situation indeed, it seems that no team is able to hold a clean sheet on a regular basis.
So the “cheap” defenders of the top teams (5.5 or so) are not interesting.
That leaves us only with the very premium defenders (6 to 7), likely to have a regular offensive return. And not only these guys are very expensive, but then they regularly bring 6 points instead of the frequent 15 they gave us when they married an assist or a goal with the clean sheet.

I am sure that it will change later in the season (though City is bound to live with Ota and Pool with the defensively fragile TAA), But so far indeed, I believe that it is a viable strategy to go for the cheap defense, and afford one or two additional top mid or forward.

Vestergaard top points scorer of defenders now, who would have thought

    Whats your opinion?
    (1) Forwards are outscoring Mids. Defenders are also not great… time to switch to 3-4-3? I am in 4-4-2 till now and def. return has not been great past few weeks.
    (2) Mane looks set to outscore Salah – at least in this stretch of next 5-10 gws – do you differ?
    (3) Sterling points are going down sequentially – Is there a change in Sterling’s position? I have a feeling that he has started playing wide and crossing to box. I have never seen Sterling to put crosses, he is more cut-inside, enter the box and square the ball kind of player.

      1) Yeah I started the season with a heavy defense and thus far it hasn’t really worked… Don’t think forwards are outscoring mids, there are forwards that are doing well and there are mids that are doing well
      2) I disagree, Salah has outscored Mane thus far, even in PPG, don’t think it would suddenly change, although it could change of course
      3) Against Norwich he was a bit too wide for my liking, although he cut inside too, but Norwich forced City to go wide a lot, don’t think Sterling is bad pick now all of a sudden

I too have Salah and Sterling and would like to stick as of now till I WC. Thinking of WCing in next int. break provided there are lot of tweaks to be done. By that time few UCL/UEL matches also will be done. As of now, I just can’t switch to 3-4-3 very easily.

Our sh* def concede again. Hope we get a good def. next season.
