Fantasy Football Tips GW19
After an exciting days action on Boxing Day that saw many high scores and an overall average of 61 we must dust ourselves down very quickly, whether that be from over celebrating high scores and ending up sleeping in the hedges or from simply falling flat on your face in the dirt with the shame of a hit that didn’t pay off. The quickest of quick turnarounds sees GW19 start tomorrow (Sunday 28th) with an 11.30am deadline (UK time). There’s an early kick-off at 12pm between Spurs and Man Utd and with it a rare opportunity to glimpse a couple of team sheets ahead of the deadline as they will be announced at 11am. We usually give you separate run-downs between the game-weeks on the fixtures, tips and our captains picks but with so little time we will aim to give you a whistle stop tour of who we feel have the best of each for GW19 but don’t forget to check back on the GW18 articles for each one as all those also address GW19 but without the hindsight of having seen GW18 first!
We will begin with a quick reminder as to the full fixture list for GW19 itself –

Man City
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Another strong performance to keep up the pressure on leaders Chelsea and the second game in a row that they have scored three goals without a recognised srtiker. Milner once again did what we suggested he would which is to run the defenders into distraction and allow the likes of David Silva to profit from deep. Silva now has a whopping 30 points in the last two games and is clearly the one profiting from this new system. Three goals, an assist and the full 6 bonus points suggest that he’s the one to be on, now if only he had a decent fixture in GW19. Oh hang it’s Burnley. At home. Bingo. City have scored 15 goals at home, Burnley have conceded 15 away. City have scored 39 in total, Burnley have conceded 27 in total.City have won 6/8 at home, Burnley have lost 5/8 away. City are second from top, Burnley are second from bottom… Yeah, ok, ok enough, we can see where this one is going…
Others to consider –
Pablo Zabaleta – having been giving a rest away at West Brom surely the marauding full-back will play out City’s remaining teo festive fixtures. Picking up his third assist of the season in his last outing, he was unlucky not be on the score sheet as well. He’s also playing for the team with the second best home defensive record in the league (5 goals) with two home games ahead. Assuming he starts both, which he should, he’s a relative bargain compared to what Leighton Baines has produced lately and he has two away fixtures on the bounce. Put it into perspctive – Zabaleta in GW17 alone – 11 points. Baines in GW’s 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 in total – 8 points.
Yaya Toure – The big man keeps lumbering around from one game to the next but still keeps collecting fantasy points as he goes. It’s hard not to when you play for City, even Fernando got some this week! He’s now got 3 goals in 4 games, in fact it’s 5 in the last 7 if you go back even further to the exact point in time he woke up and realised the season had actually started. Of course some of those have been penalties but hey don’t knock it, that’s his job now too and he’s pretty good at it.

QPR
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Those who kept the faith in QPR (aka Charlie Austin) to deliver a little something this week, even away at Arsenal, were duly rewarded with a late Christmas present as he notched his 12th goal of the season and a little cheeky one bonus point to go with it. Most managers that owned him will have kept him regardless as QPR’s overall fixture run was good beyond that game anyway (Palace H, Swansea H, Burnley A) and so whether you benched him or not rest assured you can play him with gleeful abandon for a good few weeks now and probably consider him for the captaincy in most of those games. QPR’s home form has been well documented and Austin is at the heart of all that with 9 of his goals and all 3 of his assists coming at home. In fact that means he’s had a hand in 12 of QPR’s 17 home goals. On that point there are only 4 teams that have scored more at home and those are all in the top 6. Add to that opponents Palace have dropped into the relegation zone and have only won once away and have the joint 3rd worst away defensive record… Yeah, ok, ok enough, we can see where this one is going too…!
Also consider –
Well in all honesty we probably wouldn’t bother with anyone else. Austin or bust.

Aston Villa
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Two losses, three draws, two wins, a loss, a draw and a loss. That’s their last ten game sequence, it’s inconsistent and pretty much sums Villa’s season up. And only 7 goals to the good in those 10 games. So what’s to like? Probably not much in all fairness other than a slightly favourable fixture run that sees them have two good games up next against Sunderland and Palace. Our outside tip here is Christian Benteke. again on the face of it he has 28 points all season but consider that 24 of those have been in the last 5 weeks. That’s still less than 5 a week but this is a player that playing his way back into both form and fitness and by all accounts has started to look sharp and hungry. Add into that the lack of viable options in his price range for teams that actually have both a forward that plays regularly or is indeed fit and has decent fixtures and Benteke starts to look like a very viable punt for the next couple of weeks.
Also consider –
Brad Guzan. Villa’s only player who has actually scored over 50 points this season and is assured of his place with two favourable home fixtures and priced at just £4.7m. If you are having a keeper crisis and need a quick fix you could do much worse than grab Brad.

Arsenal
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Perhaps not the easiest fixture away at West Ham but also perhaps with one of the best players in tow all is never lost. Alexis Sanchez arrived from Barcelona having looked every inch at home there and that has shown so far with his class oozing from every pore. He’s no show pony, he’s just brilliant and accentuates that with a work rate and desire that quite frankly puts his team-mates to shame and actually forces them to raise their game such is his stature, albeit as diminuative as he is. He’s top of the FPL scoring charts and that’s no accident. He scores all types of goals – six yard predator, long range hits, headers he has no right to win, the list goes on and on. The only shock this past week was that he is pretty poor at penalties! That little err probably cost his owners about 8 points. 16 for those that captained him. Sorry, we know it still hurts. Quite why he took it we still aren’t sure as Cazorla took the last one when Sanchez was on the pitch and produced a nonchalant chip down the middle. Maybe Wenger took exception to the arrogance of it. Still we’d rather that than missing, but either way it would have been an assist for Sanchez as he won it in the first place had someone else scored it. Anyway we are going off the point which is that this guy is electric and it doesn’t matter who’s he’s facing we would back him to produce. West Ham looked a bit limp at Chelsea and may have found their level there but then most teams do. With Giroud being suspended for this trip, Sanchez will possibly be asked to play up top or at least assume an even more advanced position again. If you don’t own him yet then we suggest you do very soon.
Also consider –
Santi Cazorla. The little Spaniard has been oft overlooked so far, but probably from his early lack of production. He managed to go the first 14 GW’s with no goals and just 2 assists. He’s had a resurgence since with 3 goals, an assist and 5 bonus points in the last 4 weeks though to move him back onto our radar a bit. In fact 41 0f 63 season points have come in the last 6 weeks. He’s on some free kicks and given Sanchez’s penalty woe he’ll likely be back on those too.

The SNOW!
Just a little something to keep an eye – as you will see from some of our pictures above it started snowing in the UK at around mid afternoon on Friday. This continued into the night in some parts and the forecast was varied but freezing temperatures were mentioned. Keep tabs on the weather updates as this may affect a few Sunday games depending on localised weather. Our experience learned from last season is that it isn’t the condition of the pitch that matters any more it’s the condition of the approach to the ground – the streets and surrounding areas. There was snowfall in the North West but as we speak that seems to have stopped and is thawing away. The Midlands looked quite badly affected too but there were reports of it being widespread so keep an eye and ear on the news is the message here.

And don’t forget to cast your vote in this weeks Captains Poll –
[polldaddy poll=8408892]
Bench is got sober for January for cancer research, everyday I make It I will donate a pound, anyone want to sponsor me?
Bench – done. Send me a link to where to donate. Remind me too please.
Hello!
My H2H opponent this week has a similar team to me but also has Clichy and Silva. I’m trying to decide if I should do Baines to Zabaleta or YYT to Silva. Would love some input! Thanks
If I were going to make a change like the one you are talking about it would have to be Baines to Zabs. Yaya has done well over the last two games so on top of sideways it seems a bit wrong to sell Yaya in his current producing form. Selling Baines always scares me, despite his low output over the last couple of games, but it makes more sense to me.
Evening all.
Hope everyone’s had a great Christmas break so far…
Looking for some advice. I’ve been falling like a stone through the rankings lately. Was top 25k a few weeks ago. Now down in the 250ks somewhere. And, to top it off, I didn’t even qualify for the cup. Oh the shame.
So… i’m thinking i’ll need to be using the Jan WC pretty early in the window. For this week I was considering either Welbs or Lukaku out for Austin. Just to jump on the bandwagon in time for his form to run out. Don’t mind taking a hit, but no major surgery so close to the WC window.
Anyway.. I’d appreciate any advice. I’ll be back on the boards in a bit to offer my wisdom to any teams that are so desperate they actually care what I think about their plight!
Thanks all.
Hi Chins, welcome to the site. You’ll have to give me 10 while I dry my eyes at Lukaku AND Welbeck still being there, forgive me, back in a bit….
Welbeck is a great finisher!
Thanks for the welcome Inittowinit. It’s nice to be here. Seems a nice little community here too.
It’s not obvious who’s in charge though. The few times I’ve popped in on a weekend, there never seems to be a moderator around. I assume the Head Honcho is that Fantasy Chief fellow. He seems to be in charge of most things FPL. Anyway, I digest…
Yeah, my team is in a bit of a sorry state. it’s been neglected a lot lately. I’ve been distracted by playing a lot of Fantasy NFL. I did quite well. Lost in the final. But then, you should see the jokers I was playing with. ANYONE could’ve made it to that final. I digested again didn’t I?!
Anyway… any help you or one of your online friends could give me would be highly appreciated.
I’ll try to pop in more regularly in future. At least until the fantasy cricket season kicks off……
Ta.
Great going on that fantasy NFL. Didn’t think an Arsenal fan knew how to finish above 4th place…
To be fair Meato, I only finished 6th in the league and then sneaked into the playoffs via the back door.
I struggled with injuries to my quarterback and wide receivers, but luckily I had Diaby on the bench who could play there.
Tosser
Oops sorry pressed ‘Post Comment’ thought it said ‘Digest’. Says ‘Digress’ in English.
Chief? Never heard of him. Take it this is one one of your lawn mower mates? Strange club but each to their own appliance or 6.
NFL was clearly rigged. Just putting it out there.
I’m not having that.!!!
Where’s that Chief fellow?? He’ll have you banned in no time!!
Is called a quarterback! No wonder Chins says he was playing with jokers.
I think your other reference Deano has more chance of getting of me banned from here than the Chief mate :hippo:
This is turning into one of those New Year ‘best of the past year’ shows isn’t it! We really should do that…. Mito’s the ‘ad-hoc’ guy. Mito, just have a quick skip through this years 200,000 comments and pick out the best one will ya please mate
I could go through our pre season articles and comments and see who said what? Of course I will be looking for the ones that went completely wrong as those are funnier.
I think that’s a great idea!!
Pretty sure I made a big deal about Robertson when he got picked up by Hull. #CalledIt
I may have given Maguire an equally big build up. But 1 out of 2’s not bad!!
I’d be tempted by getting in Austin-his form (especially at home has been ridiculously good over a sustained period). Of the two maybe drop Lukaku… Everton have been out of sorts and don’t have the best fixtures. Also since you’ve kept Welbeck he may benefit from Giroud’s suspension in a more attacking role. That would also free up cash to upgrade Bony to Costa when he goes to ACoN
Bonny,
Thanks for that mate. I’m thinking along the same lines.
Probably should’ve jumped on him a while ago. Better late than never though right?
Thanks again.
Evening everyone.
Hope everyone’s had a great Christmas break so far…

Sorry for the double post. I’m a bit out of practice lately…
Chins – do better 😉
Chins – similar boat I’m afraid.
How about Austin in and a City defender in for a minus 4?
Dreamers,
Are you going to go early on the WC then mate? Or try and muddle through and play it as late as possible?
Chins – trying late. Late to the party with a few players though
chins – what’s important for you is to get a playing bench. I think both Oscar and Azpi will be rested one of the next two matches, and then you’re in trouble. I’d get in Austin for one of your strikers and get Mangala for Yun.
Tekno – don’t have him, but u think azpi will be rotated?
Tekno, there is NO WAY i’m playing Bench!! I don’t care what he says on here. He’s barely sober and i’m not even sure he’s that good at football.
Thanks for your reply though.
U think bench is Barely sober? Really
Dreamers I was just messing mate. Definitely going to sponsor him though. Great cause.
Chins – u don’t get my Irish humour ( or attempt at).
Separate the two.
1. Good cause.
2. Banter
Remember or hear for first time – my Christmas been shit ( vomiting bug )its laugh or cry or drink as in tonight.
Dreamers, thought you were joking mate, but thought i’d play it safe.
Don’t want to upset anyone. Especially at Christmas.
Well, when I say “anyone”…….
Safe is no fun n not like you Chins
I can only apologize.
Let me go away and think about what I’ve become.
I’ll come back stronger Dreamers, I promise.
Sorry to hear about the vomiting bug though mate. That’s not fun.
Hope you feel better soon.
I’ve a third pint left. Think its time to call it. Night lad.
That’s a third as in 1/3. Ha. Be a bit pitiful otherwise.
Sorry Tekno, just re-read your post.
Yes, a playing bench would be nice. I can’t justify fixing that until the WC window though.
Good shout on Mangala. I think i’ll go Austin and then have a look at cities fixtures to see if the hit for a defender might pay off.
Thanks mate.
Cheers for this innit. Really want to make my transfers tonight before price drop. If I do tekkers in for Bony and Silva in for Chadli/ Downing it means I’m -1 million, so I either have to downgrade Baines or Clyne. Who would you take out and why? Cheers
Baines cause he sucks.
Mitro
What do you think of mangala in for baines then? That would leave me .1 million
Mangala is a good option assuming he can stay away from his fifth yellow tomorrow.
If I took him in and he got a yellow I would probably cry, clune the better option then?
@Duthers, sorry that was frustration I needed to get out. Looking at fixtures I think it has to be Clyne. Baines has been producing close to nothing, but to a degree that is in the past. It only matters who has a better chance in the next couple of games and I be hard pressed to pick Clyne over Baines.
Mitro
So who would you take in for Clyne? Not much going below 4.5 million in all honest
Who would you guys captain out of Austin or silva?
I think its a toss up between the two. I think i’ll go Silva. But if I bring in Austin, I think it’ll be a harder choice…
Ok, I think i’ll go Austin.
Who’d have thought at the start of the season we’d ever be choosing between those two as the most likely captain choices for a gameweek!!?! What is the world coming to?
Cheers chins, yeah it definitely would have been a no brainer before if I had two pick out of them two. But what can I say Austin has played really well so far this season, and he loves scoring at loftus road, which makes the captaincy choice even harder!
