Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW25

Screen Shot 2016-02-08 at 09.18.08Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. For this week’s publication, I sit at my computer reviewing and reflecting upon EPL results while my family and the rest of America is engrossed in the 4th quarter of the Superbowl. I know some folks may think I’m odd but personally, I am indeed more curious to understand Firmino’s rise to success rather than the outcome of Manning’s quarterback performance. Blasphemous to many I know! Having now, perhaps shared too much information, let’s take a look at the top trends for gameweek 25.

Who was the most captained player by the top ten for Gameweek 25?

This week, 50% of the top ten managers selected Aguero as captain (12 points), 30% Firmino (26 points), and 20% Kane (4 points). What is interesting here is the fact that Firmino has virtually been off the top ten radar until this week.

What’s the deal with Firmino and how is it that he’s finally appearing on the radar of the Top Ten?

As you will see below, Firmino was selected by only 4 of the top managers and prior to this week, there has been no talk of him in Trends from the Top. What is interesting about this is that Firmino is actually owned by 14.3% of managers and has had some really great gameweeks since Klopp decided to make him Liverpool’s main striker. Firmino played his first full 90 minutes on December 26th where he earned an assist and brought his owners/managers 8 points. In GW 21, Firmino scored 2 goals (13 points) against Arsenal and in GW 23 scored another 2 (18 points) against Norwich. His form is insane as it is currently at 9.6. And while Liverpool is not playing in Gameweek 27, GW 26 against Aston Villa as well as an upcoming double gameweek, make Firmino a very attractive addition to one’s squad. I only wish I had made him my captain as opposed to my vice captain!

Who were the most popular players chosen by the top ten for Gameweek 25?

Goalkeepers: For this past gameweek 70% of the top managers selected Cech while de Gea, Butland and Hennessey were each owned by 10%.

Defenders: This week we saw 15 defenders make the cut for top managers. Interestingly enough, Alderweireld (70%) was the only defender with an ownership rate of 50% or higher. Dann, Koscielny and Azpilicueta all came in at 30% while Johnson, Cresswell and Bellerin were the next most popular picks with 20% ownership followed by Fonte, Ward, Dawson, Kolarov, Jammaat, Cedric, Francis and Dier each with 10%.

Midfielders: When you look at midfielders, the top 10 managers had 11 different picks with several getting only 10% of the vote such as Sanchez, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, and Arnautovic. Ozil was the most popular pick with 90% ownership followed by Alli and Mahrez at 70%, Barkley and Payet at 50%, Firmino at 40% and Willian with 20%.

Forwards: This week, the front line consisted of 7 picks among the top managers. Aguero came in with 90% while Kane was the next popular pick as he received 80%. Vardy was selected by 30% of the top managers with Lukaku and Ighalo receiving 20%. Valencia and Giroud each received 10%.

[divider_1px]

In summation, the Must-Haves for top managers for Gameweek 25 were Cech, Mahrez, Alderweireld, Alli, Barkley, Payet, Ozil, Aguero and Kane as they all had an ownership rate of 50% or higher.

What are some other interesting findings regarding our top leaders?

2 of the top players are new to the top 10.

-The most impressive top ten player for this current season is Ryan Grzegowski’s team the Wombats.
-The Wombats are currently in 9th place and have been in the top ten for 14 weeks.
-Chris Rigden’s, I’m Glad All Over team is currently in 5th place and Chris has pretty good stats…the best of the leaders. Chris finished 31,905 for the 2011/2012 season and 15,153 for the 2012/2013 season. He has only used his first wildcard and has yet to deploy any chips. He is certainly one to watch.
-Our current leader finished 373,975 for the 2014/2015 season.

Other interesting facts:
-The average score for Gameweek 25 among the top 10 was 73.7 points which is 18.7 points above average for the week.
-England maintains the lead for having the most players in the top ten. This week 40% of our leaders were from England followed by Australia, Ireland, Canada, Sweden, Scotland and Bosnia-Herzegovina each coming in with 10%.
-The average team value was £106.6 with £108.6 being the highest team value and £104.9 being the lowest value.
-29 points separates 1st place from 10th.

Best of luck in Gameweek 26!

    Wazza says:

alrite fellas hope you are well.

i am chasing badly this season. 75points behind the guy top of my main league.

With only 12 games left would you suggest just playing my own game still or taking punts now as not much of season left?

      inittowinit says:

Hi Wazza, it seems a lot but it’s only just over 6 points a week when you break it down. May depend largely on what chips you both have left.

      • Wazza says:

he has used triple c. but the guy in second whos only a few behind him has all chips in play.

I am just trying to figrue out when is the right to start gambling..

        • DMC says:

Hey wazza, if you look at it in perspective, 12 GW is almost one third of the game to be played. No time for mad or extreme punts I’d say. If you are third in that league I’d suggest you keep on pushing with your own best judgment and reassess in a few GW. This is something you can recover from with a couple of good capo choices, but if you start gambling now – specially when against two or more – you may easily find yourself +100 pts adrift and that could be in deed too much.

        • inittowinit says:

Sorry Wazza, missed your reply there. I wouldn’t go OTT with gambles just yet. Maybe the odd well thought out differential here or there but at this stage it’s just as important to stay in touch.

      Mitro says:

It can be done mate – just need to use your chips wisely! The guy leading my main ML has used all his chips so I can’t wait for mine to come into play!

    photek says:

    Afternoon all,
This got lost deep in the abyss on the end of the last thread..

This is my other team i co-run with a mate,
who do you think i should move Silva out for?
i’m thinking 3 West ham is over the top with their form and i might need a Cech / Forster in goal, should i press the WC button to tidy it all up?

      nishant says:

      hello photek

      why WC mate? hold it

do Silva to Alli and you are good to go

i know Butland has frustrated us owners a bit. but he has got great talent and Stoke have some good fixtures. keep him for two more weeks

Next week you can do Luka to Kane(blank) and Valencia to Vardy(wonderful fixtures) for a hit if you feel like. or do Luka to Vardy and avoid the hit

      photek says:

      cheers Nishant

Silva to Ali was one i was looking at to get some attacking tott coverage in there.
Foolishly the week before last i took out Vardy for Valencia as i wasn’t convinced Leics would do so great in those fixtures, guess i was very wrong there smile

I was thinking to WC because the teams slipping behind in my ML and with only 12 weeks left it feels like a time to shake things up for the run in home.

    nishant says:

Wonderful compilation of all the top stuffs Beka
    smile
    appreciate it.

folks i have a Kurt Zouma trouble.
    my backline including him is
Butland Ruddy Bellerin Ward Target and Dier

6mn to spend on my New defender

    suggestions guys?

how would be Zouma to Huth and bench him this week starting Ward? or even start him

    any other help

    Snookie Bear says:

What are people’s thoughts on Firmino? Remove him after gw against Villa or keep him om bench and play him after blank

    • 6.1
      nishant says:

      hello Snookie

      depends on your bench mate.
i definitely believe Kun is one to hold on to.
so that allows you to play 3-5-2 being the most attacking formation. Now again if Firmino needs to be benched, that would mean a 4-4-2 or a very unlikely 5-3-2(if you have a fifth mid not strong)

so you need to have a really good bench mate.
      rest is your choice
      smile

also hope you don’t have Lukaku, that increases the pain even more

      • Snookie Bear says:

Not having Lukaku will decrease the pain not increase lol, how many would I need to bench if he was in my team too

        • Snookie Bear says:

Ok my bad misunderstood what you were saying 😛 I have enough backup and can easily bench Aguero and Firmino team would be like this :
          Lloris
          Cathcart Monreal Olsson Cresswell
          Payet Ozil Mahrez Ali
          Ighalo Kane

So that would be easy and will have 2 Fts to use in between so thinking of keeping Firmino smile
