Fantasy Football World Cup 2022

Well, we never thought we’d be writing a World Cup article in November… never mind one about a World Cup in Qatar, but hey, money speaks, evidently. Whatever your feelings about this one it is here and it is happening so we may as well embrace it. After all… #footballscominghome

The good (?) people at FIFA, or to give them their new name FIFA+, have launched a fantasy game and as you’d expect we are all over it. The following is a run down of where to find it, how to play it, the fixtures, the deadlines and most importantly how you can join in the fun in the FF247 Regs League.

After that this article will act as a month long World Cup version of Live Match Chat. Much like the Champions League one does. In fact the whole game is very Champions League-like. If you have played that you will get the gist of this one pretty quickly, if not do not worry as we shall attempt to talk you through the basics below. Failing that just pop a comment in the chat below and we shall answer any query for you, regardless of how daft!

BTW… it’s coming home wink

The Game Itself
You can access the game here – https://play.fifa.com/fantasy-classic/

The FF247 Regs League
We are only running the one league and there is only one way to enter it…
Please email us on contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk if you want the code for this one.

You must include your FF247 username and your FIFA+ Fantasy World Cup team name in the email, or we will simply ignore it.

The purpose of this one is that it is for folk who are on the FF247 forum regularly and taking part in the regular FF247 WC chat. Please don’t try to join if you aren’t. We will know, and we will boot you out.

The Regs Standings
This will be updated as we go along, as per the CL ones.

The Basics
You can access all of the rules themselves here but the main points are as follows…

Scoring
The scoring is similar to FPL only that keepers get 9 for scoring a goal (may as well be 25?!), defenders 7 and mids and fwds 5 each. Mids get 1 point extra for both 2 key passes and for every 3 tackles. Fwds get 1 point for every 2 shots on target.

Chips aka Boosters
Worth noting as there are a couple of odd ones…

‘Matchdays’
The stages are split into 7 different ‘matchdays’…

Players per team
As per CL this increases through the stages…

Amount of transfers
Likewise there are different stages to this…

Captain and Sub Rules
Those who are familiar with CL rules can skip this bit but for those who aren’t then this is super important. Basically you can keep changing your Captain Armband to another player who is yet to play, within each Matchday, until you land on one that you are happy with, as long as you do it before the next players game begins. Likewise with subs you can bring one in to replace a player who has played, but has perhaps not done as well as you would have liked. It’s basically rolling the dice until you are happy to stick.

MD5 Fixtures – QF’s (and possible SF’s)

      Stone Frog says:

Can they be changed once more?

      • GoalMachine says:

What I understood is as follows:
Matchday (MD) – 1 matchday is spread across 4-5 calendar days (at least for MD1)
Locked player (L player) – The player will be locked once his match starts
Unlocked player (UL player) – The players whose matches are yet to be started

        (C) change –
Case 1. From a (L) player to any (UL) player – can be done only 1 time per MD
Case 2. From one (UL) player to another (UL) player – can be done as many times as you want per MD.
Case 3. When you try case 1 + case 2 i.e. first change from (L) player to (UL) player and then you fall in case 2 and try to change from one (UL) to another (UL) player. I assume this will work, but rule does not explicitly say that. So, its better not to walk in that route unless you are forced.

Example: Kane (Mon), Messi (Tue), KDB (Wed) and Neymar (Thu) are (C) candidates. I set (C) on Kane.
        – On Monday during ENG match Kane will be (L). If he gets less, I can change (C) to any of Messi/KDB/Neymar. Lets say, I change it to Messi.
        – On Tuesday, before ARG match starts, I found from the lineup that Messi is not starting. I guess, I can change it to KDB. But if I do not change and ARG match starts, then Messi becomes my permanent MD1 (C) and I cannot change it any more.
        …….this way it goes.

        • GoalMachine says:

Sorry Case 3 is not allowed – they added an example now for Case 3.

Example: Player A is selected as captain. They play and score 10 points during the Matchday, becoming locked. As captain, these points will double to 20. However, you then decide to to change your captain to Player B (who is unlocked). Once this change has been saved, Player A’s points will return to 10. Even though Player B is unlocked, you will no longer be allowed to switch captain to another unlocked player, as you have already made a captain change involving a locked player.

Which big teams players are people here not putting?.
Currently i have no one from Brazil, Germany or Spain.
Got double Belgium, France and England and not tripled up on any team.

      Yes hard to cover everybody!

      Loud Atlas says:

No Spain or Belgium here. Pricey players for games which could likely go either way.

      • Reg83 says:

i do like belgium fixtures. they play canada and morocco first 2 games. KDB bit too pricey so hoping hazard can rediscover his form and got castagne too.
The only fwd I want from Brazil is Neymar but there is Kane Mbappe & Messi too. So left out Neymar. And the Brazil defenders arent wing backs.

        • Reg83 says:

And Germany have a good team with no superstars. Difficult to predict who will score and even who will start.

        • Loud Atlas says:

Morocco looked good yesterday apparently (3-0 win vs Georgia, admittedly!). KDB’s the only player you really need from Belgium (but pricey!). Courtois’s in great form, but 6m is too much for a keeper, I think. Hazard hasn’t been good since 2019 (plagued with injuries ever since). He hasn’t scored for Belgium for 18 months too. Really out of form. They lost 2-1 to Egypt today too, if that sways anything.

Brazil has an embarrassment of riches – Neymar probably your safest bet. Exciting forward line whoever joins him.

        • Reg83 says:

I agree KDB is best option. But cant get find the extra 3m.. Hazard hasn’t been in form but he is their captain and I believe on penalties. So i am rather hoping with Belgium he ll find some form.

    Mmm?
Read the new/updated rules about 5 times now..
    Still confused?

So it looks like only 1 Captain change per matchday.

What I’m still not sure about is manual subs.?
E.g ..So, let’s say I’ve got both my goal keepers playing on the same day but at different kick off times, can I play one I.e (earlier kick off) then swap them out for the 2nd GK playing later?

I think this is me. Not easy…

    Stone Frog says:

So if I wild card in Gw2, can I make unlimited transfers of unlocked platers for GW2 and unlimited transfers of locked players, which will come active for GW3?

    • 71.1
      inittowinit says:

Still not sure. It’s this bit that is still very ambiguous.

      • Stone Frog says:

So if we don’t make transfers during MD1 we will role over 2 and have 4 before/during MD2 anyway?

        • Reg83 says:

no u will have 2 FT for MD2.. If u using during MD1, it will count as towards the 2 FT.

        • inittowinit says:

It’s the x2 Matchday 1 transfers that are complicating what they are trying to say.

Usually on MD1 there are no transfers as you’ve already had unlimited ones for that MD and then transfers should begin for MD2 onwards. I think it’ll all be as we would normally expect only they have got themselves a bit confused and tied up in knots.

The fact that they have tried to explain it so complicatedly simply suggests that they have got people in running it who are not necessarily experienced fantasy game players.

They could really have just scrapped their whole attempts to explain it and said ‘it’s just like the CL one and every other McD WC game!

    bees393 says:

This sounds like a good plan.
It seems like you could have a double wildcard for GW2-3. . You can basically do this:

    1. Make a wildcard team for MD2 (do not pick any Portugal or Uruguay players)
    2. Before that last game of Portugal – Uruguay, you transfer in (with your unlimited transfers from MD2 WC) all the players you want for MD3.
    3. You now have basically an entirely new wildcard team for MD3 and 2 FTs to use around lineups.
