Fantasy Football World Cup 2022

Well, we never thought we’d be writing a World Cup article in November… never mind one about a World Cup in Qatar, but hey, money speaks, evidently. Whatever your feelings about this one it is here and it is happening so we may as well embrace it. After all… #footballscominghome

The good (?) people at FIFA, or to give them their new name FIFA+, have launched a fantasy game and as you’d expect we are all over it. The following is a run down of where to find it, how to play it, the fixtures, the deadlines and most importantly how you can join in the fun in the FF247 Regs League.

After that this article will act as a month long World Cup version of Live Match Chat. Much like the Champions League one does. In fact the whole game is very Champions League-like. If you have played that you will get the gist of this one pretty quickly, if not do not worry as we shall attempt to talk you through the basics below. Failing that just pop a comment in the chat below and we shall answer any query for you, regardless of how daft!

BTW… it’s coming home wink

The Game Itself
You can access the game here – https://play.fifa.com/fantasy-classic/

The FF247 Regs League
We are only running the one league and there is only one way to enter it…
Please email us on contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk if you want the code for this one.

You must include your FF247 username and your FIFA+ Fantasy World Cup team name in the email, or we will simply ignore it.

The purpose of this one is that it is for folk who are on the FF247 forum regularly and taking part in the regular FF247 WC chat. Please don’t try to join if you aren’t. We will know, and we will boot you out.

The Regs Standings
This will be updated as we go along, as per the CL ones.

The Basics
You can access all of the rules themselves here but the main points are as follows…

Scoring
The scoring is similar to FPL only that keepers get 9 for scoring a goal (may as well be 25?!), defenders 7 and mids and fwds 5 each. Mids get 1 point extra for both 2 key passes and for every 3 tackles. Fwds get 1 point for every 2 shots on target.

Chips aka Boosters
Worth noting as there are a couple of odd ones…

‘Matchdays’
The stages are split into 7 different ‘matchdays’…

Players per team
As per CL this increases through the stages…

Amount of transfers
Likewise there are different stages to this…

Captain and Sub Rules
Those who are familiar with CL rules can skip this bit but for those who aren’t then this is super important. Basically you can keep changing your Captain Armband to another player who is yet to play, within each Matchday, until you land on one that you are happy with, as long as you do it before the next players game begins. Likewise with subs you can bring one in to replace a player who has played, but has perhaps not done as well as you would have liked. It’s basically rolling the dice until you are happy to stick.

MD5 Fixtures – QF’s (and possible SF’s)

Feel like there’s gonna be a bunch of upsets in this WC, especially w/ the 1-week prep. Several usually good teams not quite in-form and some ‘weaker’ teams coming in stronger than perhaps expected. Hard to predict who will go through in some of the groups, no?! buba

      FC Sanchez says:

Who do you gents think will go through in these groups?
      Here are my tentative predictions:

      Group A
      1.Netherlands
      2.Senegal
3.Ecuador (tough one betw/ Senegal and Ecuador for 2nd place)
      4.Qatar

      Group B
      1.England
      2.Wales
3.USA (tough one betw/ Wales and USA for 2nd)
      4.Iran

      Group C
      1.Argentina
      2.Mexico
3.Poland (tough one betw/ Mex and Pol for 2nd)
      4.Saudi

      Group D
      1.France
      2.Denmark
      3.Tunisia
      4.Aussies

      Group E
      1.Spain
2.Germany (tough one betw/ Spa and Ger)
      3.Japan
      4.Costa Rica

      Group F
      1.Belgium
      2.Croatia
      3.Morocco
      4.Canada

      Group G
      1.Brazil
      2.Serbia
      3.Switzerland
      4.Cameroon

      Group H
      1.Portugal
      2.Uruguay
      3.SKorea
      4.Ghana

These would be the more popular predictions I presume (apart from a few of the 2nd+3rd placers). Where would the upsets be do you think?

      • Loud Atlas says:

Pretty much the same predictions as you! Maybe South Korea sneaking into the last 16 would be fun. If either Spain or Germany don’t get out of the group, that’d be very interesting!

        • FC Sanchez says:

LA–yeah would love Skorea to go through especially if we can see Sonny getting amongst the goals. Uruguay seem a bit unpredictable maybe although they got good players. Also love to see Germany struggle but might not happen two WCs in a row. Spain look decent.. Big question mark for me is Belgium I think. Don’t think Roberto Martinez is the right man for that obviously talented team, tho they should go thru. Too bad…

      • Stone Frog says:

In the end there is always some unpredictability, probably ~5 favourites win their groups, may be 2-3 will end up second place, 1 may even go out.

      • bees393 says:

Xenia and Switzerland could swap spots

      • Reg83 says:

There will be some upsets for sure.

Dont underestimate hosts and Asian champs Qatar. They may make it.
Can Japan pip one of Spain or Germany out? Or Morocco make it ahead of Croatia or Belgium ? Its possible. Serbia or Switzerland can stun Brazil. Its possible.. Portugal may not make it. Atleast 2-3 upsets will happen i predict.

Love the Piers Morgan option in the in the MD1 captain poll! I’m going with him

      inittowinit says:

He currently has 15% of the votes. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Has 2.5%. Something tells me people are not taking this vote massively seriously rofl

      • I certainly don’t. The entire thing is a parody from the very start to the end. Hosted in a country with medieval rules and in the middle of winter to disrupt all normal football. Two days before the tournament deciding that drinks at stadiums are prohibited and unmarried couples having sex is illegal. The game follows suit with changing the rules 48 hours before kickoff. We gonna have to put up with this grotesque for the next four weeks.
Just make sure your final teams are set by tomorrow morning because there is a high possibility the site crashes close to deadline.

        • inittowinit says:

Six and a half thousand workers from other countries have been reported as being killed working on this mess. Their official response has been to say that they believe the figure is inflated slighted as some of those were reported incorrectly. You couldn’t make it up.

        • bees393 says:

          Disgusting fukks.

      • Init, the most disturbing fact is that Infantino literately erased the achievement of the civilised world and went to defend atrocity happening in the 21st century. We are living in dangerous times. If that WOKE don’t stop now it will lead us to enormous troubles.

        • VanDan says:

What everyone said. It’s a sad sad story of the human race, 12 years on! This WC is already more derided than the 2010 one, and it hasn’t even started yet.

        • Kop Warrior says:

I’m starting to think that Infantino is a bigger c**t than Blatter! And that takes some doing.

Is Shaw a safer bet than Trippier? Sounds crazy but possible Trippier is dropped for GW2 I hear.

1st draft hows this looking kinda just winged it and will sub Dum if needed when the team is announced not too bothered right now.

    webstar87 says:

Am I right in saying we can only switch captain once in a gameweek if he’s already played/been locked in? E.g. if Kane flops, punt on 2nd best option not the random player who happens to play the next game day?

    Stone Frog says:

I think I’m almost done, like double Argentina and double Brazil attack. Problem is there won’t be many options if Richarlison doesn’t start as it is the last game. Worth the risk?
