Fantasy Football World Cup 2022
Well, we never thought we’d be writing a World Cup article in November… never mind one about a World Cup in Qatar, but hey, money speaks, evidently. Whatever your feelings about this one it is here and it is happening so we may as well embrace it. After all… #footballscominghome
The good (?) people at FIFA, or to give them their new name FIFA+, have launched a fantasy game and as you’d expect we are all over it. The following is a run down of where to find it, how to play it, the fixtures, the deadlines and most importantly how you can join in the fun in the FF247 Regs League.
After that this article will act as a month long World Cup version of Live Match Chat. Much like the Champions League one does. In fact the whole game is very Champions League-like. If you have played that you will get the gist of this one pretty quickly, if not do not worry as we shall attempt to talk you through the basics below. Failing that just pop a comment in the chat below and we shall answer any query for you, regardless of how daft!
BTW… it’s coming home
The Game Itself
You can access the game here – https://play.fifa.com/fantasy-classic/
The FF247 Regs League
We are only running the one league and there is only one way to enter it…
Please email us on contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk if you want the code for this one.
You must include your FF247 username and your FIFA+ Fantasy World Cup team name in the email, or we will simply ignore it.
The purpose of this one is that it is for folk who are on the FF247 forum regularly and taking part in the regular FF247 WC chat. Please don’t try to join if you aren’t. We will know, and we will boot you out.
The Regs Standings
This will be updated as we go along, as per the CL ones.
The Basics
You can access all of the rules themselves here but the main points are as follows…
Scoring
The scoring is similar to FPL only that keepers get 9 for scoring a goal (may as well be 25?!), defenders 7 and mids and fwds 5 each. Mids get 1 point extra for both 2 key passes and for every 3 tackles. Fwds get 1 point for every 2 shots on target.
Chips aka Boosters
Worth noting as there are a couple of odd ones…
‘Matchdays’
The stages are split into 7 different ‘matchdays’…
Players per team
As per CL this increases through the stages…
Amount of transfers
Likewise there are different stages to this…
Captain and Sub Rules
Those who are familiar with CL rules can skip this bit but for those who aren’t then this is super important. Basically you can keep changing your Captain Armband to another player who is yet to play, within each Matchday, until you land on one that you are happy with, as long as you do it before the next players game begins. Likewise with subs you can bring one in to replace a player who has played, but has perhaps not done as well as you would have liked. It’s basically rolling the dice until you are happy to stick.
MD5 Fixtures – QF’s (and possible SF’s)
Paqeuta or Zielinski?
I was thinking Paqueta but he faces competition obviously.
Both are good options. Zielinski’s in great domestic form with Napoli.
Thanks guys. Will go with Zielinski the safer option.
Does anyone know when is the dateline ? Can’t seem to find it
When the first game kicks off (4pm UK time).
Cheers
Here is another interesting one.
If I transfer out Kane for e.g. Richarlison after the England game has been played then the transfer doesn’t happen until GW2. That rule is clear.
But, can I use the money generated to bring in e.g. DiMaria instead of DePaul for GW1 since neither have played?
Doubt it – the money gained by a transfer won’t be able to be used within the current matchday, but will be available for MD2.
I think if you have DiMaria on bench and Kane doesn’t score you can replace him before DiMaria start. For GW2 you have 2 free transfers unless you play WC.
When do you guys plan to use your chips? Thinking of using my 12th man in MD1 and WC on MD2
12th man could be good first MD or even final round?
Feels like not much points to gain in finals?
I have activated my 12th man. My 12th is Messi
My 12th man will be Mbappe i think
12th man for Mbappe for me. WC when things go pear-shaped…so probably MD2 .
Lesgo!
I am not rushing with the 12th yet. Let’s see who is in top form first, plenty of opportunities later on.
Good point but if I´m WC then that only leaves me with either MD1 or 3, or later rounds but feels like the options start to narrow on MD3 onwards.
Coys, everyone plays differently. I’ve learnt from UCL fantasy that the WC is best kept for later. Don’t understand this hysteria for rushing it in MD2 or MD3. If half of your players have failed, yes, otherwise it’s much more useful after the last 16, QF or SF.
Bcoz u get unlimited free transfers before round of 16 and atleast 5 before qf, it makes WC less effective then. U ll already have atleast 8-9,players who have progressed and u want to keep and will get 5 ft anyways.
Wc is best used in md2 or md3 in my opinion. If md3, its like a free hit.
5.5m defender – danilo/maquinhos/blind on my radar. Whose everyone else going for as a potential cs+attacking return? Sounds like Dumfries does the attacking for Netherlands so blind isn’t really a WB, and Brazil also don’t attack through their flanks as much either any more?
I put Marquinhos as my only Brazil player. He does score sometimes. Brazil full backs arent that attacking.
After MD1 starts today, I can still make 2 transfers for MD1. Is this the correct understanding?
…that means if all my players start, I can carry forward 1 transfer to MD2 and have 3 transfers for MD2 (and even 4 if already got points on my playing 11 and have UNLOCKED bench players whom I don’t want to bring to pitch)..
Have a look at paragraph 8 in the rules – all there. Getting confused with it myself. Just wish the game would start so we can just roll with it
Never used to make transfer on a running matchday except MLS, but in MLS there is no manual Sub.
Here they have taken all features of all fantasy games. By the time we understand MDs will be over.
