Fantasy Football World Cup 2022

Well, we never thought we’d be writing a World Cup article in November… never mind one about a World Cup in Qatar, but hey, money speaks, evidently. Whatever your feelings about this one it is here and it is happening so we may as well embrace it. After all… #footballscominghome

The good (?) people at FIFA, or to give them their new name FIFA+, have launched a fantasy game and as you’d expect we are all over it. The following is a run down of where to find it, how to play it, the fixtures, the deadlines and most importantly how you can join in the fun in the FF247 Regs League.

After that this article will act as a month long World Cup version of Live Match Chat. Much like the Champions League one does. In fact the whole game is very Champions League-like. If you have played that you will get the gist of this one pretty quickly, if not do not worry as we shall attempt to talk you through the basics below. Failing that just pop a comment in the chat below and we shall answer any query for you, regardless of how daft!

BTW… it’s coming home wink

The Game Itself
You can access the game here – https://play.fifa.com/fantasy-classic/

The FF247 Regs League
We are only running the one league and there is only one way to enter it…
Please email us on contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk if you want the code for this one.

You must include your FF247 username and your FIFA+ Fantasy World Cup team name in the email, or we will simply ignore it.

The purpose of this one is that it is for folk who are on the FF247 forum regularly and taking part in the regular FF247 WC chat. Please don’t try to join if you aren’t. We will know, and we will boot you out.

The Regs Standings
This will be updated as we go along, as per the CL ones.

The Basics
You can access all of the rules themselves here but the main points are as follows…

Scoring
The scoring is similar to FPL only that keepers get 9 for scoring a goal (may as well be 25?!), defenders 7 and mids and fwds 5 each. Mids get 1 point extra for both 2 key passes and for every 3 tackles. Fwds get 1 point for every 2 shots on target.

Chips aka Boosters
Worth noting as there are a couple of odd ones…

‘Matchdays’
The stages are split into 7 different ‘matchdays’…

Players per team
As per CL this increases through the stages…

Amount of transfers
Likewise there are different stages to this…

Captain and Sub Rules
Those who are familiar with CL rules can skip this bit but for those who aren’t then this is super important. Basically you can keep changing your Captain Armband to another player who is yet to play, within each Matchday, until you land on one that you are happy with, as long as you do it before the next players game begins. Likewise with subs you can bring one in to replace a player who has played, but has perhaps not done as well as you would have liked. It’s basically rolling the dice until you are happy to stick.

MD5 Fixtures – QF’s (and possible SF’s)

  1. Looks like it’s going home!

  2. Tough choice to now accept Kane 14 pts as Captain or risk it on mbappe? I am inclined to keep it on Kane.

  3. Maybe I should have stayed with Bellingham. He looks promising and more goals will come from him.

    • Did not see your post re Bellingham…long way to go mate. We will do fine.
      Pity about our Trippier choice.

  4. Senegal vs Netherlands

  5. I can now absolutely confirm two rules (by experimenting with my “wife’s” team.

    1. You get 2 only goes at the captain. I had a Quatari in the first game, moved to Kane and he is now fixed, can’t be changed.

    2. You can use your in play transfers to go over budget. I spent 100m including Kane and a scrappy 4.5 mid. Now that Kane has played, I have sold him for GW2 keeping the points and brought in KDB for GW1 so my final budget for GW1 will be 106.5m

    • THANK YOU MRS OTIENO heart

    • So, if I move the armband to Bergwijn now, that’s it. I wont be able to change it later on Messi or Neymar??

      • No Ivan. U can change ur captain only once.

        • OK, I need to decide whether to switch to Messi or Neymar. Think the former has a better chance vs Saudi but that 10 AM UK time kickoff feels strange unknw

    • If u sold kane now for kdb, u will get the kane points, but I don’t think u will get the kdb points in gw1.. U will get the kdb pts in gw2

      • Surely Reg is correct here?

      • No, definitely both in my GW1 team and 6.5 over budget

        • How is this possible? For ex. With 0 in the bank, i am trying to transfer trippier out.. If u can see the defenders above 5m like van dijk are locked. So it wont let u go above budget.

        • Reg, you have to do a money making transfer first so you could for example transfer Trippier out for a random 3m defender who hasn’t played yet. (You keep Trippiers nil points for GW1). Then at the same time use the 2m to upgrade one of your squad who hasn’t played eg Sarabia to Sane ?

        • Yes otieno. I understood. See my below comment. But my mids are all in 7-8m range so they may possibly do something.
          Smart play though.

    • How did you pay for the difference in player prices? Or did you have the extra available?

    • I don’t get what you mean Otieno, this is Mrs Otieno’s team, I can only see the transfer of 11mil Kane to 4.5mil Leckie, which would leave you the 6.5 itb, Where’s the KDB transfer, I’ve tried and it won’t let me go over budget

      • That’s even more interesting because it’s showing 20 points but captain Kane isn’t there!

        • Probably not showing me as it’s not my team

        • We’ll see how it pans out later. For it to work you have to make both transfers at the same time and ie has to be a high value player transferred out who has already played and the other 3 mustn’t have played

        • And you can’t do the trick twice even if you take hits because you would then have to make up the deficit with the second transfers

        • Ok now i get it. U transferred out a player who is yet to play, ie. The Uruguay fellow for kdb who is also yet to play. U did this by removing kane whose pts are still valid as he already played for leckie whose pts will not count this week but only next md. As per the rules this is possible i think

        • Carrying Leckie through to GW2 does make it difficult to get Kane back (unless MrsO wildcards) but there is always the option of repeating the process once Messi has played GW2 and getting e.g. Ronaldo

  6. So far I’ve subbed out what I thought was a 0pts Qatar player who is now sat on my bench with what could be a valuable 1pt, Now I’ve got Trippier on 1pt who surely should be on 0pts, I’m going to have to right everything down as my small brain can’t take it anymore laugh1
