Fantasy Football World Cup 2022
Well, we never thought we’d be writing a World Cup article in November… never mind one about a World Cup in Qatar, but hey, money speaks, evidently. Whatever your feelings about this one it is here and it is happening so we may as well embrace it. After all… #footballscominghome
The good (?) people at FIFA, or to give them their new name FIFA+, have launched a fantasy game and as you’d expect we are all over it. The following is a run down of where to find it, how to play it, the fixtures, the deadlines and most importantly how you can join in the fun in the FF247 Regs League.
After that this article will act as a month long World Cup version of Live Match Chat. Much like the Champions League one does. In fact the whole game is very Champions League-like. If you have played that you will get the gist of this one pretty quickly, if not do not worry as we shall attempt to talk you through the basics below. Failing that just pop a comment in the chat below and we shall answer any query for you, regardless of how daft!
BTW… it’s coming home
The Game Itself
You can access the game here – https://play.fifa.com/fantasy-classic/
The FF247 Regs League
We are only running the one league and there is only one way to enter it…
Please email us on contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk if you want the code for this one.
You must include your FF247 username and your FIFA+ Fantasy World Cup team name in the email, or we will simply ignore it.
The purpose of this one is that it is for folk who are on the FF247 forum regularly and taking part in the regular FF247 WC chat. Please don’t try to join if you aren’t. We will know, and we will boot you out.
The Regs Standings
This will be updated as we go along, as per the CL ones.
The Basics
You can access all of the rules themselves here but the main points are as follows…
Scoring
The scoring is similar to FPL only that keepers get 9 for scoring a goal (may as well be 25?!), defenders 7 and mids and fwds 5 each. Mids get 1 point extra for both 2 key passes and for every 3 tackles. Fwds get 1 point for every 2 shots on target.
Chips aka Boosters
Worth noting as there are a couple of odd ones…
‘Matchdays’
The stages are split into 7 different ‘matchdays’…
Players per team
As per CL this increases through the stages…
Amount of transfers
Likewise there are different stages to this…
Captain and Sub Rules
Those who are familiar with CL rules can skip this bit but for those who aren’t then this is super important. Basically you can keep changing your Captain Armband to another player who is yet to play, within each Matchday, until you land on one that you are happy with, as long as you do it before the next players game begins. Likewise with subs you can bring one in to replace a player who has played, but has perhaps not done as well as you would have liked. It’s basically rolling the dice until you are happy to stick.
MD5 Fixtures – QF’s (and possible SF’s)
I’ve just figured out how to see players points scored.
1. Click on player
2. Click fixtures
3 view points underneath that game
So question?
Has anyone got points for
Shots / tackles
All I’ve got is Cs / goals/ assist
Yes i saw this too. Tackles, shot on target, key passes not mentioned. Nor earned penalty.
I think they will update these. Hence this historic data message saying they will update.
Thank you for that! I posted earlier how I could not find that and it was bugging me.
Morocco vs Croatia
There’s really some amount of talent in both of these teams.
Yep, have Perisic and Sosa playing. Let’s hope for something special.
Same here. Only my forwards have done something so far plus maehle. Hopefully these 2 do something
Not much from the defence so far, apart from Blind and the Ecuadorian GK.
Cancelo will be the last hope tomorrow coming in for 1 pointer Trippier.
Another 0-0..atleast we get the Sisa cs points but i guess most have him too
*Sosa
MrsO stayed in bed this morning and I forgot to sub Sosa in for her. Oops!
Germany vs Japan
I have kimmich but best to expect nothing. The mids have been useless except whoever owned Saka or Rabiot.
I am with Musiala in this one.
Watching closely Kamada. He is the best Frankfurt player with 7 goals in the Bundes and 3 in the UCL.
Musiala here as well but wanted Serge, too many ‘forwards’ to fit in. What is with this international fantasy and classifying mids as forwards?
Yeah look at the brazil team. All are forwards. Raphinha, vinicius, Rodrygo, neymar, Jesus, richy.. I would have liked raphinha.. But takes up a valuable fwd spot.
Who wants casemiro or fred?
Ten Hag.
They always do this in WC and Euro. Many mids are becoming forwards and vice versa.
Yeah ok, but where’s the logic? Muller can be either fine but you can’t tell me Messi or Kai are ‘strikers’. Anyway! btw, do you remember in 2014 they made defensive mids viable in fantasy by awarding points for the “ugly stuff”? That was interesting and fun I thought.
Yeah, everything is possible with those at World Cups and Euros. Too much dosh and not much else to do
Aye. All for nepotism raise their hands.
Let’s see who else have balls to follow….
Well done to the Germans there.
But not so well done in the actual game.
Japan won. Another bit of underdog magic.
First Saudi now Japan.
Come on Costa Rica and Canada?
Yes hopefully. Always root for the underdogs. Its what makes it thrilling
Wow. 2 major upset in 24 hrs.
Hopefully now no more complaints that quality is poor. If quality is poor, its by the big nations.
Incredible fighting spirit by saudi and now Japan.
Maybe this will inspire Qatar and Iran too. Well Iran weren’t actually that bad England just played well after seeing the other games now.
