Fantasy Football World Cup 2022

Well, we never thought we’d be writing a World Cup article in November… never mind one about a World Cup in Qatar, but hey, money speaks, evidently. Whatever your feelings about this one it is here and it is happening so we may as well embrace it. After all… #footballscominghome

The good (?) people at FIFA, or to give them their new name FIFA+, have launched a fantasy game and as you’d expect we are all over it. The following is a run down of where to find it, how to play it, the fixtures, the deadlines and most importantly how you can join in the fun in the FF247 Regs League.

After that this article will act as a month long World Cup version of Live Match Chat. Much like the Champions League one does. In fact the whole game is very Champions League-like. If you have played that you will get the gist of this one pretty quickly, if not do not worry as we shall attempt to talk you through the basics below. Failing that just pop a comment in the chat below and we shall answer any query for you, regardless of how daft!

BTW… it’s coming home wink

The Game Itself
You can access the game here – https://play.fifa.com/fantasy-classic/

The FF247 Regs League
We are only running the one league and there is only one way to enter it…
Please email us on contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk if you want the code for this one.

You must include your FF247 username and your FIFA+ Fantasy World Cup team name in the email, or we will simply ignore it.

The purpose of this one is that it is for folk who are on the FF247 forum regularly and taking part in the regular FF247 WC chat. Please don’t try to join if you aren’t. We will know, and we will boot you out.

The Regs Standings
This will be updated as we go along, as per the CL ones.

The Basics
You can access all of the rules themselves here but the main points are as follows…

Scoring
The scoring is similar to FPL only that keepers get 9 for scoring a goal (may as well be 25?!), defenders 7 and mids and fwds 5 each. Mids get 1 point extra for both 2 key passes and for every 3 tackles. Fwds get 1 point for every 2 shots on target.

Chips aka Boosters
Worth noting as there are a couple of odd ones…

‘Matchdays’
The stages are split into 7 different ‘matchdays’…

Players per team
As per CL this increases through the stages…

Amount of transfers
Likewise there are different stages to this…

Captain and Sub Rules
Those who are familiar with CL rules can skip this bit but for those who aren’t then this is super important. Basically you can keep changing your Captain Armband to another player who is yet to play, within each Matchday, until you land on one that you are happy with, as long as you do it before the next players game begins. Likewise with subs you can bring one in to replace a player who has played, but has perhaps not done as well as you would have liked. It’s basically rolling the dice until you are happy to stick.

Sold him…he must be so upset.
A question for you Ivan…I still don’t understand this.
If I take Gueye out now and replace him (am on WC) I know I keep his points, but does this count as one of my two transfers for MD3?

      • Bees, tbh I gave up long time ago on guessing what’s wrong and what’s right with these “rules”. Everything is so shambolic, words can’t describe it. Let’s go along and whatever is, back to normality in a couple of weeks.

Hi Bees. I am on a wildcard too for MD2. haven’t tried transferring any locked players out yet, but my understanding is that the unlimited transfers from the wildcard remain active until the end of MD2 (i.e. the end of the last game to be played). When I look at my team on the website, it says Free Transfers, rather than 2/2 Transfers like it showed me for MD1. So I’m pretty sure any transfers we do in MD2 count as wildcard transfers.

Once MD3 begins, we should have at least two FTs to use in MD3 (Maybe, if we’re lucky, a third FT could roll forward to MD3 because we haven’t used any MD2 transfers while on our wildcards, but that last part might just be my wishful thinking, haha).

        • Reg83 says:

Now u r WC is active. U can transfer out unlocked player for unlocked player unlimited times to get pts this MD. U transfer locked player, u get his pts this week and next MD new player points.

However since i havent tried it, i am not sure if u can keep selling locked players to set up for md3.. Maybe maybe not.

I personally feel wc3 is better bcoz for eg. England win now and they could rotate md3. So i can see lineup and make unlimited transfers. For ex. I put saka, but he is benched for Foden.
Maybe Germany already eliminated, they may play a second string team vs Costa rica. I can put fullkrug if he is starting instead of havertz.

        • Chipster says:

Hi Reg. yep, that is definitely a huge benefit for the MD3 wildcard. But as MD2 gradually completes, I’ll have an idea which teams still have something to play for and will most likely target them when setting up my MD3 squad. So if England are already qualified after winning tonight’s game, I will probably just avoid England players in MD3, to avoid possible rotation like you say. But I will also have 2 FT to use within MD3, so I can make a couple of lineup reaction changes if required.

        • bees393 says:

Thanks Chipster. At the end of MD1 I transferred out a locked player because I did not want to loose one of the two transfers. I then had 3 for MD2.
However, I am now on WC so am hoping you are right and I can make three changes for current players with lousy match ups and still have my 2 FT.

        • Reg83 says:

Well now England won’t rotate. Though they are certain to go thru unless hammered by wales 4-0, they ll want to finish top of the group and win the game.

Klassen was subbed off at 69 minutes with one assist. 4 points right? Why is he showing 0 points on my team?

      Chipster says:

I didn’t see the goal/assist, but was it definitely an assist by however the fantasy game rules dictate? Sometimes in FPL, assists are given/not given differently to how they are reported on BBC Sport website (for example), so could be something like that going on with Klaassen’s assist here.

Or, more likely, the fantasy game is a pile of cr@p and they got it wrong and the assist will get updated “soon” laugh

      • Reg83 says:

Here only intentional and direct passes are given as assists. Klaasen touched the ball last but don’t think it was an intentional pass to gakpo. I think this us the reason. Also no assists are given for shot saved by gk and rebound tucked in..

He should ideally get 1 pt. Dont understand 0 pts.
Or maybe i am wrong and they ll update later the assist along with the historical data or whatever.

Now I’m wondering if their “past scoring fix” broke some of the live scoring.
