Fantasy Football World Cup 2022

Well, we never thought we’d be writing a World Cup article in November… never mind one about a World Cup in Qatar, but hey, money speaks, evidently. Whatever your feelings about this one it is here and it is happening so we may as well embrace it. After all… #footballscominghome

The good (?) people at FIFA, or to give them their new name FIFA+, have launched a fantasy game and as you’d expect we are all over it. The following is a run down of where to find it, how to play it, the fixtures, the deadlines and most importantly how you can join in the fun in the FF247 Regs League.

After that this article will act as a month long World Cup version of Live Match Chat. Much like the Champions League one does. In fact the whole game is very Champions League-like. If you have played that you will get the gist of this one pretty quickly, if not do not worry as we shall attempt to talk you through the basics below. Failing that just pop a comment in the chat below and we shall answer any query for you, regardless of how daft!

BTW… it’s coming home wink

The Game Itself
You can access the game here – https://play.fifa.com/fantasy-classic/

The FF247 Regs League
We are only running the one league and there is only one way to enter it…
Please email us on contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk if you want the code for this one.

You must include your FF247 username and your FIFA+ Fantasy World Cup team name in the email, or we will simply ignore it.

The purpose of this one is that it is for folk who are on the FF247 forum regularly and taking part in the regular FF247 WC chat. Please don’t try to join if you aren’t. We will know, and we will boot you out.

The Regs Standings
This will be updated as we go along, as per the CL ones.

The Basics
You can access all of the rules themselves here but the main points are as follows…

Scoring
The scoring is similar to FPL only that keepers get 9 for scoring a goal (may as well be 25?!), defenders 7 and mids and fwds 5 each. Mids get 1 point extra for both 2 key passes and for every 3 tackles. Fwds get 1 point for every 2 shots on target.

Chips aka Boosters
Worth noting as there are a couple of odd ones…

‘Matchdays’
The stages are split into 7 different ‘matchdays’…

Players per team
As per CL this increases through the stages…

Amount of transfers
Likewise there are different stages to this…

Captain and Sub Rules
Those who are familiar with CL rules can skip this bit but for those who aren’t then this is super important. Basically you can keep changing your Captain Armband to another player who is yet to play, within each Matchday, until you land on one that you are happy with, as long as you do it before the next players game begins. Likewise with subs you can bring one in to replace a player who has played, but has perhaps not done as well as you would have liked. It’s basically rolling the dice until you are happy to stick.

MD5 Fixtures – QF’s (and possible SF’s)

I did such a stupid mistake. Was busy who to stay and who to go out before the deadline and forgot to transfer Alba out.
Now left with no players and 2.0 ITB for tomorrow aggressive

Didnt the ball go out for the 2nd Japan goal? I felt it was quite clearly out but there was no like goal line technology for this.
The Var have been terrible this WC & think they got this wrong too. Unless they have some other angle which they didnt show us.

    • 369.1

That is true, so many obvious wrong VAR decisions have been made so far that wouldn’t be surprised if somebody suspects fixing in some of the games.

well from this photo, it looks 2% of the ball is in play. shock

That’s all it takes, I feel for Germany laugh1

        • Reg83 says:

But i watched the replay of this again in TV as the ball went slightly further out than shown in this photo. It does appear that the whole of the ball was out. The on field decision was no goal. And i dont see any conclusive evidence for Var to overturn it. So this goal should not have counted.

Also the griezmann goal was definitely not offside. In didn’t affect the overall outcome but had Australia not won, Tunisia would have unfairly made it. Some major Var errors this WC. Its the worst i have ever seen Var implemented.

        • Haven’t seen that replay you mention and it is still subjective – as VAR always is. VAR is only a tool – the VAR error is in fact a human error – just not on pitch.

Remember as well that one of the four major incidents for VAR to review is goals. So this was correct to be reviewed. After this, it is four (trained) guys in a TV centre who have given it. Subjectivity again.

Griezmann’s was again subjective – in so much that the referee ruled that the Tunisian defender hadn’t made the deliberate play. I can see where you are coming from Reg – and I may even agree with you – but I can see within the laws of the game why the offside was given.

        • Reg83 says:

The Griezmann one would never ever been given offside in the premier league or CL or any other top league. Football will die down if strict rules are applied each time.
Griezmann never interfered in 1st play when he was offside and the defender did make a deliberate play to clear the ball but it fell to griezmann.
He deliberately tried to head it away. But obviously he didn’t deliberately head it to griezmann. Why will a defender head it deliberately to an opponent? Below is an interesting article about each var decision this world cup.

Just giving goals or ruling out goals on minor technicalities by law 314.3 or whatever is kind of killing this World cup.

        • Like I say, the deliberate one basically means an in control action which is subjective. Stretching to get anything on it and not being in control of where it goes is not deliberate (by the rules). You might remember the disallowed goal in the CL Final by Benzema.

I’ll take a look at that link, thanks

What’s the story with transfers for the next round? I know we have unlimited transfers ahead of the round, but do we have unlimited transfers through the round as we’ve had on the WC?

2010 all over again. Ghana miss penalty, Uruguay could go thru. Suarez involved in the goal.
And kim equalises! Question is which of the 5 Kims? rofl
