Fantasy Football World Cup 2022

Well, we never thought we’d be writing a World Cup article in November… never mind one about a World Cup in Qatar, but hey, money speaks, evidently. Whatever your feelings about this one it is here and it is happening so we may as well embrace it. After all… #footballscominghome

The good (?) people at FIFA, or to give them their new name FIFA+, have launched a fantasy game and as you’d expect we are all over it. The following is a run down of where to find it, how to play it, the fixtures, the deadlines and most importantly how you can join in the fun in the FF247 Regs League.

After that this article will act as a month long World Cup version of Live Match Chat. Much like the Champions League one does. In fact the whole game is very Champions League-like. If you have played that you will get the gist of this one pretty quickly, if not do not worry as we shall attempt to talk you through the basics below. Failing that just pop a comment in the chat below and we shall answer any query for you, regardless of how daft!

BTW… it’s coming home wink

The Game Itself
You can access the game here – https://play.fifa.com/fantasy-classic/

The FF247 Regs League
We are only running the one league and there is only one way to enter it…
Please email us on contact@fantasyfootball247.co.uk if you want the code for this one.

You must include your FF247 username and your FIFA+ Fantasy World Cup team name in the email, or we will simply ignore it.

The purpose of this one is that it is for folk who are on the FF247 forum regularly and taking part in the regular FF247 WC chat. Please don’t try to join if you aren’t. We will know, and we will boot you out.

The Regs Standings
This will be updated as we go along, as per the CL ones.

The Basics
You can access all of the rules themselves here but the main points are as follows…

Scoring
The scoring is similar to FPL only that keepers get 9 for scoring a goal (may as well be 25?!), defenders 7 and mids and fwds 5 each. Mids get 1 point extra for both 2 key passes and for every 3 tackles. Fwds get 1 point for every 2 shots on target.

Chips aka Boosters
Worth noting as there are a couple of odd ones…

‘Matchdays’
The stages are split into 7 different ‘matchdays’…

Players per team
As per CL this increases through the stages…

Amount of transfers
Likewise there are different stages to this…

Captain and Sub Rules
Those who are familiar with CL rules can skip this bit but for those who aren’t then this is super important. Basically you can keep changing your Captain Armband to another player who is yet to play, within each Matchday, until you land on one that you are happy with, as long as you do it before the next players game begins. Likewise with subs you can bring one in to replace a player who has played, but has perhaps not done as well as you would have liked. It’s basically rolling the dice until you are happy to stick.

MD5 Fixtures – QF’s (and possible SF’s)

First time watched England match in this WC and I am really disappointed in the first 45 minutes. Certain things do never change and Southgate football is one of those. England still might win, but its like not allowing the players to play to their full potential and somewhat holding their game.

ENG needed to start JWP…those free kicks and even penalties would be in the net.

Kane is one of the best penalty takers there is. Just put way too much power & had a ROberto Baggio moment.

What? I like JWP, but what has he done the season to warrant being in the squad?

What I felt is that, first half ENG played too many square passes and was exceptionally slow to build an attack. Second half they were much forward looking in the attack with plenty of long balls and head ons. This is exactly they should have played in first half, to be extra cautious is not always good especially when you have Bellingham, Henderson and Rice protecting the midfield.

      • Reg83 says:

yes that may be true. But the threat of a France counter attack with Mbappe was always there if ENG play too attacking. At the end, had Kane buried the 2nd penalty we would have had a different conversation. I remember Kane recently scored & then skied his 2nd penalty against someone maybe in the CL..Same happened today.. Should have just repeated his first penalty which is unstoppable.

        • GoalMachine says:

I guess he tried the first like shot, not sure how that skied that much. May be force was bit more.
Regarding Mbappe and Dembele attack prevention – I do not agree at all with the strategy. ENG under Southgate against any strong opposition has become a 45 mins team.
Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Kane and Henderson as lynchpin were good enough. Walker anyway did not go forward to hold Mbappe. Dembele was double covered by Rice and Shaw/Maguire. The build from the back was much slower. Maguire, Stones, Rice, Shaw had too many square passes before giving it to Henderson/Bellingham to carry it forward.

Interesting, the so called “world number one player” wasn’t involved in the win.

I have 6 players left and 5 FT. It looks like going without a bench.

      GoalMachine says:

What did you do with your 5 transfers from QF? Did you not use them?
I have 13 players and 5 transfers. Everyone is getting 0 or 1 though, so count does not help much.

      • I used 3 of them throughout the round for players who are now eliminated. The last two before the end of this game went for Livakovic and Sosa.
You know what, this charade will be gone and forgotten in a couple of weeks. I might go mad and take a few hits, just for fun.

        • Reg83 says:

the only player who didnt blank for me this QF was Messi but I c Mbappe.
Fantasy wise, a nightmare QF.. Football wise, thrilling QF ties.

        • GoalMachine says:

          First day I had GK=1 and 3 defs (0, 0, -1). I replaced the GK (1) and 2 defs (0, -1) with my bench players.
          Now, GK=0, 3 def.s (0, 0, -1)……….so it went down from 0 to -1 involving 7 players.

After this sort of things, who cares about WC fantasy and care about taking hits etc etc…….just have fun and enjoy the last 4 games.

        • Exactly that’s what I am going to do.
I think the battle for the bronze could be more exciting than the final.

        • Chipster says:

But Ivan, will there be rotation for the bronze battle? If countries do not care for it, they may give a runout to the subs.

        • Chips, every nation care about it. It will improve their world ranking and goes in the WC history as 3rd which is not a bad achievement. For example, after Morocco qualified for the SF they will jump to 11th place from the current 22nd. That said, even if they win it, they can only go up to 6th because of other factors. So, every win counts, including friendly games.

        • Reg83 says:

Definitely they ll play 3rd place seriously and full strength team.
Like Ivan said, the history books will record it as 3rd place team of the WC. Last WC, Belgium was 3rd place and that’s their best achievement in a WC.
