Fantasy Premier League 2016-17 Pre-Season Round up
Hellllllooooooooo FPL’ers! We’re back. It is that time of the year again when we begin to look ahead to how our 20 Premier League teams are preparing for this the most potentially cash-laden, superstar-fuelled, world class manager-jewelled season in history.
FPL will again afford us the chance to back our favourite players (which is of course price-dependent – but that’s for another article) but we need to know that they will be playing in a position worth having them, that they are in form, and more exciting perhaps, where the next bargain of the ‘Alli, Mahrez, Payet, Vardy’ ilk are to be found.
And so to assist us along the way this article is intended as a pre-season scrap book where we intend to record all teams pre-season fixtures and will include where possible all salient information as to who is scoring, who is assisting and who is looking hot and who isn’t.
I will do my best to get all information posted as swiftly as possible but it will all eventually appear here. I would appeal to you to follow my example and in the format of previous seasons assist me by including team news with substitutions, team formation information, goal scoring and assisting records and any other information FPL-relevant.
The main new addition here is that this article is linked in with the HOT COMMENTS section that appears above the Latest Comments. Basically we have created a comment link for each team. Simply scroll to the Hot Comments for the team you require info on and it’ll take you to their section and we will have all their pre-season info in one place courtesy of our fantastic community members.
The purpose of this is so that –
1. There is a specific place to post relevant pre-season info for each team –
Please post any findings – line-ups, signings, team news, match reports, etc…
2. It’s easy to find all the info.
Need to know the pre-season line-ups for Arsenal? Easy, just click on their link in Hot Comments and you will come to their hub.

Please RMT think defence may be bit pricey ?
Gooner, unless you are planning on playing 4 or 5 at the back each week I would defo take some cash out of your defence and improve midfield and upfront.
Too much in defence for me Cech and Shaw or Bailly shaves a million off for Bellerin and De Gea. And then upgrade Feg to Townsend maybe. Though I don’t think you need all of those defenders. I’m not sure on J Rod guy has not really played in a very long time but he gets a lot of love on this site
Indeed.
If Feghouli is not the 5.5m Payet many are dreaming of without any solid reason then you have 3 cheap benchies up front.
One way to trim a bit would be Ddg+Bell -> Cech+Shaw/Bai
Hey Gooner, AS cookie and Smash mentioned, too pricy a defence that. Woud suggest Belle to a much cheaper one. He might not fetch you CS for the first two atleast. Utd def may be(once we know who’d start). Feghouli to Cabaye/Townsend may be?
Hellllloooo good fellas. Hows everybody doin??A bit busy lately. Have managed to come up with my first draft..RMT please.. Also, how nailed do you think Negredo will be? Any views? Any other changes you suggest? No Arsenal attack against Pool worries me though. But, Ozil/Sanchez not likely to start the first two, right?? cheers
Solid back 5 and 4 big hitters up front, nice.
Payet may be a rest risk, but plenty of easy alternates to drop in if he does get listed nearer the time.
cheers Takasaki..would you suggest to do with Eriksen for a straight swipe later(for Payet)? And 4 big hitters!! which ones.. 😛
I expect Payet to play. Only Wenger seems to hold players back. West Ham don’t have the same quality of reserves to Arsenal
I’m not sure Blind will play so I’d swap him.otgerwise it’s pretty solid.
hey smash.. Not sure who to play. Need Utd def for sure. Would Shaw be a better alternative?
I think Shaw or Bailly will be better bets. It’s not essential at this time because it will become clearer closer kick off plus we get to see United in the community shield
thanks Smash..I just know that Blind is being mentioned out of position. So, assists may follow him + CS. rest, your point’s noted too.
Yeah but with Pog coming in. They already have Schweinsteiger and Scneiderlin there to go along side him in the middle plus Felli. If Blind plays I think it could be LB
There’s nothing I can add. It’s basically all been said. Blind out to Baines and it’s a great team.
This is a TV chasing team.
GW1 special team maxing out players with hot fixtures.
WC expected first matchday to pick up the initial price panics that occur, when anyone scores a goal.
Its a gamble as it relies on the picking up enough points & cash in case of too many dud 1 week wonders.
Kind of an ‘all in’ , but where you had the chance to choose some of your cards.
It’s a massive risk mate and personally one I don’t understand. Maybe it works for you but I wouldn’t be doing it.
2 seasons ago I started in GW2.
Played ‘by the numbers’ no hits, ignored TV, crawled my way from 3m to 200k.
last season did the special team – at gw5 I was inside 100k with a higher TV than I ended previous season & that despite WHU touted as relegation fodder turning over my gw1 ARS picks.
There is also the math that each 0.1m needs to be buying 4+pts to be near the top at the end –
So at the start of the season a 4 point hit for +0.1m is points neutral. With the bonus that a price riser is because they are in form scoring points.
Hello all,
Looking forward to another season of fantasy football. Starting to compile my initial squad for this season. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this for a first attempt?
And am I right in saying that you can make unlimited changes to your initial squad before the first deadline of 13 August?
Hey Robot you are correct on the unlimited transfers mate so swap to your hearts content.
There are a few things I don’t like on this team. First you need to keep an eye on Schmeichel. I’ve heard he may be moving but not 100% sure. Also need to look at Sanchez I think Wenger plans on resting him for GW1. I don’t like Noble or Kante to me both are DMs even though Noble does get a good few points. Rest of your team looks good though.
Thanks Matt, I’ll have a look and maybe do a Ranieri and have a tinker!
No problem mate. A change that I’d suggest could be Wilson to Carroll to keep the Hammers cover and then Noble to Redmond which gives you .5 Mil to upgrade elsewhere.
IMO Kante is a terrible choice for FPL. He is the consummate #6 who generates no FPL points.
Advice/Tips, please.
I went offense heavy.
Can’t decide between Payet or Mahrez also.
How about Kante for Matic?
Russell if your stuck on Kun & Ibra Vardy up front then this isn’t a bad team. The two problems that stand out are Dier & Matic I would need to chk on there prices but I would say the new lad at WHU & maybe Drinkwater are better also I would change Maz or Vardy maybe Haz is worth a shout good stuff 😉
Having had a major tinker since my first draft team, I’ve made a raft of changes and registered my team as follows for now.
Any thoughts, advice or direction welcome!
