Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Game-week 6
Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Game-week 6. I sit penning this article on the morning of my birthday, and the football gods have given me a number on wonderful birthday presents. Jose Mourinho is surely unhappy after his team got whapped by Watford, and that makes me happy. Stoke were down two goals in the first fifteen minutes of their game and that makes me quite happy. Better yet, they look poised for relegation. This would make me infinitely happy.
I started thinking about the best birthday presents I ever received, and the ones that stick out the most are from my childhood. So that got me thinking: what would the best birthday present of all time look like for adult me? It would start with a lifetime contract for Jose Mourinho to manage Stoke and the team then being relegated to level 8 football. Tony Pulis would be magically transformed into a parrot that sits on Jose’s shoulder and the only thing it knows how to say is “Pep is the Special One”. The team would have to attend weekly philosophy lessons taught by new team captain Joey Barton. And Jose could not simply quit the team or get fired after alienating the entire dressing room. He could not leave his post until he held a presser to extol the talents of Arsene Wenger and Rafa Benitez. AND he had to let Ryan Shawcross marry into his family. If someone can arrange this it would be a boss birthday gift.
And with Stoke now down 3-0, I really should turn my attention back to this article before they go down 4-0 and I start dancing in the street.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at our options…
FIXTURES
Manchester United vs Leicester
Bournemouth vs Everton
Liverpool vs Hull
Middlesbrough vs Spurs
Stoke vs West Brom
Sunderland vs Crystal Palace
Swansea vs Manchester City
Arsenal vs Chelsea
West Ham vs Southampton
Burnley vs Watford
And it’s 4-0 to Crystal Palace!!!

The Obvious Choices: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (home vs Leicester) and Sergio Aguero (away vs Swansea)
The talents of these men are well known and are oft discussed on the site. Slapping the armband on either, especially given their foes this week, would be a wise bit of business and a decision you could make early in the week. But with Ibra scoreless in his last two, and Aguero coming back from a suspension, there may be reason to traverse a Road Less Travelled this week. So whilst either may be the safe play, Kun maybe more so, let’s take a look at our other options…

Raheem Sterling (away vs Swansea)

Following a messy divorce from Liverpool it seemed like Sterling never got comfortable in his first season with City. After a string of poor performances he eventually lost his spot in the starting XI and was dubbed by Yahoo Sport as the worst signing of the season. Whether by the departure of a lame duck manager, the arrival of the Real Special One or a young man who has finally grown up, it is clear the talented midfielder has found his game once again. Through five games he has scored half as many goals as he did in all of last year, and his three assists have already bested last season’s total of two. One could argue he is the hottest player in the league right now. If you don’t already own him, you should bring him in. Either way, he is one to be considered for captain this week against a Swansea team in the midst of a difficult run of fixtures and form.

Anyone from Liverpool! (home vs Hull)

Which one was the best out of The Beatles? It probably just came down to personal preference really as they were all very good and any one of them could shine at any given moment. You see where we are going with this… of course you do, there are a myriad of options in the Liverpool midfield and ask 4 people now which one of Coutinho, Mane, Firmino or even Lallana to buy into and you may well get 4 different answers. But hey, we are the Captains team here not the Tips one, so basically whichever of the remaining rascals you own then they are all viable options for the armband this week. Only Man City and Arsenal have scored more than Liverpool so far this season and there are definite signs that the Klopp influence is growing and they are taking on board his philosophies. Hull had been nobody’s fools up until Arsenal stuck four past them, which maybe showed their weakness in dealing with an incisive attack, and so a home game against perceived weaker opposition for a Klopp side built on incisiveness may not be the worst place to start when looking for a captain this week.

Michail Antonio (home vs Southampton)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]
Speaking of hot starts, how about five goals in five weeks? The 28 year-old journey-man who started his career at non-league Tooting & Mitcham United has made his mark on the young season and more than helped his club deal with the injury absence of £35 million talisman Andy Carroll. Unlike Capoue’s record, Antonio’s past suggest a scoring touch… albeit not at this pace. He was named Nottingham Forrest’s Player of the Year after notching a career-best 14 goals in club’s 2014-15 Championship campaign. As a moderately-priced midfielder he is easy to bring into your team and should be given honest consideration for the captain’s armband. Let’s be honest: if his last name was Aguero, and he cost twice as much, you would not think twice about it.

Romelu Lukaku (away vs Bournemouth)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]
Not everyone’s cup of tea due to his streaky nature is one Romelu Lukaku. With three and a half goals and an assist in his last two matches the talented Belgian belongs on this list, but his tendency to run hot/cold scares off many a fantasy manager. He appears to have rediscovered his touch following a busy summer, and last season’s career-high goal tally of 18 suggests bigger things could be on the horizon if he can be a bit more consistent. When hot, he can vault you up the standings. When cold, he will make you question your sanity. The true gambler’s dream is our final nod for captain this week. Just remember: you were warned.

PUNT TIME! – Etienne Capoue (away vs Burnley)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]
After four goals in five games it is time to think this might not just be a hot streak. It is rare for a player to discover a scoring touch at the age of 28 but perhaps he is the exception to that rule. Just how remarkable has his performance been? Well, in 33 appearances last season the Frenchman scored a grand total of… zero goals. In fact, entering this season he had just 14 career goals. He surely benefits from defences keying on forwards Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, but scoring nine or more points in four out of five matches suggests this might not be a fluke. Can he keep it up? Probably not at this pace, but he has all the confidence in the world right now and will continue to fire away until the goals dry up. I do not recall anyone ever seriously recommending a player under £5.0 as captain, but his performance thus far means he should be considered. One for the brave!

Morning everyone,
on a WC – Sterling or Firmino? Anything else you can suggest?
Cheers
Hi MelonCat,
Firmino for me, you have Kun for City coverage.
+1
That would make that some squad.
Any advise for my team, ignore my piss poor defence, lack of clean sheets as deterred me from spending more than 4.5 on a defender
Mandana(Jakupovic)
McAuley, Holebas, Gibson (Francis, Amat)
De Bruyne, Capoue, Antonio, Coutinho, (Melyer)
Aguero, Costa, Zlatan
Can’t argue with your front 7 Spyda – maybe an Arsenal mid would be a decent addition but I guess that’s not affordable?
I have Ibra as captain at this moment. But I hate to have my captain in the first game so i might change to sterling.
Apart from that, does the team look ok?
And what would you choose between Costa/Sanchez or Agüero/Carzola (or Any other midfielder at 8,1 or less that I don’t have already?
Allan, Aguero is a FPL must my friend.
You gotta have nice couch for hiding this weekend without Kun mate.
:p
Allan downgrade hazard and get aguero no question!
Better?
I like it Allan.
Great squad Allan.
Well done mate, especially the Lallana pick in midfield. That could pay off big.
Cheers Law Dogg for that excellent article. It’s (c)un for me this weekend.
After slipping from 100k to 1m in the last two GWs hopefully I can make up some ground.
May I pick you up on your deliberate mistake.
Sterling is away to Swansea this weekend same as Aguero
Horse it says they are away
To everyone who are getting Liverpool cover, Firmino and Mane seems the most nailed on these days. Not too sure about Coutinho in all honesty so do it at your own risk
hi Neo,
thanks for the info. does it mean that Firmino and Coutinho are likely to bag more fpl points or Coutinho is at a rotation risk?
i’m really struggling to fit one of them in my WC team..
and what about Lallana?
Firmino and Mane are the most likely to start and Lallana seems undroppable at the moment.
Over the whole season, it’s likely that Firmino > Mane > Coutinho = Lallana for points but that’s just my personal view
also the low ownership of Firmino is quite teasing…
thanks Neo
what you guys think about this wc team?
0.2m ITB
i was about to take 4.0 def for mcauley
since i have walker kosc and baines
please RMT. thank you so much guys..
I would like to have Sanchez if its my WC team.
Arsenal has tasty fixtures after Chelsea.
NewB
I’m not keen on Barry being in there but will he be benched and will you use Capoue every week? If so I guess that’s alright.
I don’t think there’s a need for double Spurs at the back so you could spread the coverage there or downgrade to have money to strengthen elsewhere.
Whilst Rondon has two decent games, the next half dozen are very enticing for Deeney at Watford and I prefer him.
Do what GP said.
Walker will collect any Spurs CS points, so I would go with a different keeper. You could go Cech in goal and then downgrade Koz to spend funds elsewhere.
I would steer clear of Rondon unless you have an easy way to swap him out in two weeks time.
good luck!
