Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 28

Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 28. Combinations can sometimes conjure up the most unique and magical fusions, take Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole (treble winning strike partnership); Morecambe and Wise (timeless comedy duo); Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (iconic dance partners) and an ice cream cone strategically placed on a donkey (unicorn). Alternatively, an unexpectedly gruesome hybrid can be produced from merging two otherwise great things together; like Star Wars and Samuel L. Jackson.

This all brings me rather unsteadily to present you this haphazard homogenization of the Captain Picks and Tips articles, which I’m unofficially calling Cat Pain Tips*.

But first let’s look at the 4 fixtures on offer:

BOURNEMOUTH v WEST HAM UNITED
EVERTON v WEST BROM
HULL v SWANSEA
LIVERPOOL v BURNLEY

The first thing to rejoice about is that, no matter what happens, FPL fans won’t be subjected to another Kane/Alli ‘celebration’ which, if it was a 90’s boyband would be A1; highly choreographed, yet almost universally despised. Watch Spurs v Millwall at your own peril. Now where were we…

BOURNEMOUTH v WEST HAM UNITED
Captain Pick – Joshua King (BOU)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fifth]Despite an alarming string of results for the Cherries, Joshua King is one of the most in-form FPL players of late, enjoying a hot streak of 5 goals in 6 games. Owned by a criminally low 3.4%, the Norwegian could prove to be an unorthodox yet effective captain choice against a West Ham team that’s failed to keep a clean sheet away from home since winning by a single goal at Selhurst Park way back in GW8. Josh has years of experience looking after cats and notes, “During heat, my cat suffered from a loss of appetite, but she still ate a little to keep up her energy. Cats go back to normal eating behaviours as the heat wears off.”

Best of the rest –
Manuel Lanzini joined previous club Al Jazira as a replacement for Abdelaziz Barrada, who linked up with Marseille. It must be deja-vu for the Argentine who now inherits the burden of Marseille’s recent recruit Dmitri Payet. Robert Snodgrass may have been the official stand-in, but it’s the former River Plate star who seems to be ably filling the creative void. Nicknamed ‘La Joya’ (the jewel), Lanzini has bagged 25 diamond-encrusted points in the past 3 fixtures. His 12 goal attempts in that period puts him behind only Coutinho in this week’s available pool of players. Another notable Hammer includes a rarely healthy, but usually dangerous Andy Carroll, who will be keen to face a defence that hasn’t kept a clean sheet this year.

EVERTON v WEST BROM
Captain Pick – Romelu Lukaku (EVE)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fifth]His Bournemouth bonanza aside, the Belgian’s FPL scoring graph has rarely spiked above the ordinary. The difference this season however has been his consistency. In years gone by, Lukaku has struggled to attain this, but now squeezes out points like an OCD teenager with chronic acne. The Everton striker epitomised this perfectly in last Sunday’s clash with Spurs, scoring even at the death when the Toffees were staring defeat in face. Post-match, he kindly shared this insight with fans, “If your cat begins growling, swatting or snapping when stroked, touched or moved, that’s a sign something is bothering him.”

Best of the rest –
Take some comfort that when Trump eventually smashes that big red Trident button on his desk, perhaps ending humanity and even worse, FPL, Seamus Coleman will still be out there by himself getting assists for… ah, wait, I haven’t thought this through. Not only has he recaptured his form of yore, he looks like having his best season ever with 4 goals, 4 assists and no sign of slowing down. As for the Baggies, well we all know about Gareth ‘goal machine’ McAuley, but maybe you’ll find room in your hearts for an ever-improving Nacer Chadli who’s starting to deliver reliable returns.

HULL v SWANSEA
Captain Pick – Fernando Llorente (SWA)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fifth]Llorente is known as ‘The Lion King’ by his Spanish compatriots. He kick-started his career with a prolific stint at Athletic Bilbao, and now aged 32 his Welsh renaissance appears to be completing the circle of his footballing life. 3 goals in 2 games has coincided with a remarkable reversal of fortunes for the Swans since Paul Clement’s arrival. The 6’4″ gentle giant, and the most popular ‘transfer in’ for this GW, confides, “My cat’s left hip is more arthritic than the right one, and I suspect it’s more comfortable for her to sleep on the right side for this reason. ?Nants ingonyama bagithi baba. Sithi uhhmm ingonyama…?”

Best of the rest –
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s progress has been well documented around these parts, but will merit inclusion for a while longer yet if he maintains his current run of scoring or assisting in each of the last 6 games. Left-back Martin Olsson completes the triumvirate (copyright The Gallant Pioneer) of double-letter-laden Swans. The £4m January signing has settled in quickly to shore up a leaky back four, and his two goals suggest he doesn’t seem too shy in front of goal either. Hull City, despite being another team boosted by a new managerial arrival, are still a relatively unappealing FPL proposition. However, with 2 assists in 2 games, recent acquisition Kamil Grosicki may be worth keeping in your thoughts.

LIVERPOOL v BURNLEY
Captain Pick – Sadio Mane (LIV)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fifth]Jurgen Klopp isn’t the only manager who’s frustrated with Liverpool’s inconsistency. The ever revolving merry-go-round of points shared among his midfield stars has FPL gaffers across the land reaching for the Prozac. It was Mane last week, next week it could be Firmino, Coutinho, Wijnaldum… But the Senegalese seems the safest bet given his returns of 12 goals and 7 assists thus far. Mane is also acutely aware of the tell-tale signs regarding feline joint discomfort, “Holding the appropriate positions for peeing and pooping can be very difficult for a cat with sore hips or knees.”

Best of the rest –
Clean sheets are almost impossible to predict these days (especially for Sadio Mane’s cat), but with a home fixture to a side woeful on their travels, Simon Mignolet at home to Burnley seems as good a punt as any. Roberto Firmino will be popular with those wishing to bring in an extra Liverpool body alongside Mane, but don’t discount Phillipe Coutinho. Yes, he’s being overshadowed by his peers, but 20 attempts in the past 4 gameweeks plonks him firmly at the top of the shooting chart, and it’s surely only a matter of when he starts finding his groove again. Sean Dyche’s men will naturally be up against it, but if they do get a result expect marksman Andre Gray to be the main contributor.

Any ideas what to do here?
    I’m thinking
Ibra – Carroll/king then change to Kane next gw and
    Sterling-coutinho???
Is that enough players for this week?
    Cheers

hey guys, ive managed to go from 100k to 44k and went top of ML after beint behind by 20 points. i scored 102 minus 8. Im not 5 points ahead 2nd place and taken 12 point hit for this game week. looks like 2nd place ihas taken 4 point hit so far and we will have around the same number of players playing. Ive brought in Mane, King, Lanzini and Llorente who i feel are essential for this gw along with other players i have such as coleman lukaku and siggy. Then have Tom carrol and holgate who have been long term fillers to allow me to strengthen team. Although ive taken a 12 point hit i feel im in a decent place for gw28 and beyond. Got 7.5 ITB so next game week will be looking to take out king and llorente for Costa and Alli giving me a decent team forward and saving transfers for DGWs coming up. Here is my team for gw28….

      Leprechaun says:

-12 is a bit shocking but hey, ho!

Holgate is not a certain starter but otherwise good for this week. What is your plan for GW29?

      • saloba11 says:

no really lose 6 points worse case and managed to get in the big hitters. alli for king and maybe costa for llorente then will be sorted for upcoming weeks.

      • saloba11 says:

really amazes me those who are reluctant to take hits. but each to their own…

        • Kop Warrior says:

I would suggest that those who consistently perform well take very few hits.

        • Andy says:

Well let’s look at it from another point of view (I’m a little bored so I done a little bit of detective work), you start of by saying that you’ve risen up to 40kish, however with a 12 point hit you’ve managed to fall back down to around 60kish before the the GW starts, you’re also no longer top of the mini league that your in either (Magic hat), yes if the hit player plays then technically you are only losing the 2 points however the game’s point scale is only comparative to other players point tally’s and if you are bringing a player in for a minus 4 then it’s impossible to overtake anyone who already had that player as you’ll always be 4 behind if you get me.

          Hits don’t guarantee points.

        • saloba11 says:

lol so had I not taken any hits I would be going into BGW with Jaku, Holgate, Coleman, Tom Carrol, Siggy and lukaku. Instead over brought in 4 essentials as highlighted by this weeks article. Mane, Lanzini, Lorente and king. Despite this im in a very strong position and would only need to make 1 transfer next week but still have a very strong team that balanced. by taking hits (early) ive also managed to build up the cost of my team therefore my rival cant match my team smile

Andy, Mind pasting a link to ur team, would be interesting to see where you are sitting……

        • Kop Warrior says:

Of the 4 players you’ve brought in the only one I’d consider essential is Mane.

        • saloba11 says:

This fine gw28 captain article would suggest otherwise, each to there own thou smile We can reassess transfer once gw28 has finished. Very happy my dealings smile

        • saloba11 says:

I particularly like this closing statement “Hits don’t guarantee points” because that’s the kind of world we live in where things are guaranteed haha

        • Kop Warrior says:

The only thing guaranteed in this world is death! smile

        • saloba11 says:

and for that, you take a hit haha

        • Andy says:

You can’t really claim that your rival can’t match your team when he’s sitting above you in the ML with only 11 GW’s to go, there is always another way, looking better on paper doesn’t really count for much.

          2184526

That’s my ID number for what it’s worth, just change it in your GW history page and it should pop up

        • saloba11 says:

nice ranking. only likely to have 4 players playing this week. Does that include taking a hit?

        • saloba11 says:

not 4 likely to have 6. But ur team is in desperate need of repair. Im sure ull fix it

        • Andy says:

I’ve brought in Mane and then I got Llorente to head off the ML rival this week so I’ll have seven going, fingers crossed the (c) will have a good week to help mitigate any losses but I went with the three Citeh players for the DGW instead of loading up for this GW, looking forward to pressing that WC button on Saturday though.

        • saloba11 says:

nice one will come in ha dy. 2 changes and i pretty much will have a wildcard team Strongest line up

          cabbelero
          alonso walker coleman
          mane alli siggy lanzini
          costa kane lukaku

    • 14.2
      Brookyboy says:

As you are keeping most of the players you have brought in and they have set you up pretty well going forward i havent got a problem with the hits you have taken, apart from King who you have taken a hit to bring in and will then take another hit next gw to take back out !!

      • saloba11 says:

Thanks wont necessarilytake a hit to get rid of king as i can bring alli in for him and wait another week for costa. Llorente has a good fixture against boro while costa is away to stoke. Hits can work and its all about playing it right. for me a hit this week isnt a problem if u are going to bring in players such as lukaku mane siggy lorente lanzini as these are the playing most ppl will be bringingin. Yes if u have taken a hit for the. whilst players in ML already have them means u have 2 points less it can also mean u dont fall behind them. if Mane llorente king and Lanzini get say 20 points between them in would have neen 20 points behind instead of 6. big difference.

    Shane says:

Hey guys,Can you guy rate this team.Already used the ft to bring in Lllorente.
Should i take a hit or two to get rid of the likes of holebas sane????Thinking of getting Antonio in for sane.Have 0 Ft and 5m itb.

    • 15.1
      Leprechaun says:

      Shane,

You have 8 players (excluding Amat) for GW28 which is ok I think. Therefore it is not critical to take a hit and it is totally unnecessary to take a -8.

I would think about what you want in GW29 and then work back from there so that ideally you only need to make one transfer.

    • 15.2

If would get rid of Holebas & Sane even if they didn’t have a BGW and replace them with players who happen not to, then its probably worth it.
But if you are bringing in players for just 1 week that’s like a -8 hit each, & rare that you can expect 8+ points in any match.

West Ham are a bit like L’pool without the Mane choice at the moment. Carroll 1 game back, Ayew firing but only 30m each last 2 games, Snoddy seems intent on assisting the assist, Lanzini has more history as playmaker than a points grabber, and Antonio is a lucky dip bag depending on where Slav plays him this week, just about only GK & corner flag to go & he has the set.

Whichever if you see Feghouli in the starting XI you’re probs looking at a 2 pointer for your choice.

    Bigpopz says:

    Hey guys

I here some comments on here talking about hits that their ML rivals are taking
Is there a way of seeing what hits people are doing within a gwk ?
I can only see rivals hits after a gwk has started..?

  5. 17

Many thanks Bry, think I will go buy a cat now.

  6. 18
    Raziel says:

Ranked within the top 60k again. After an 8 point hit. No more Tc though. I do have 9 starters for gw28. Thinking of doing Kun to Llorente and Sterling to Firminho.
