Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 36
Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 36. Welcome to the business end of the season lads and lasses – a small DGW gets us under way before the real big one in DGW37! This particular DGW has turned out to be a bit less appealing than most thought it would, as Arsenal and Southampton are both in poor form. Given Southampton’s lackluster performances, I believe there are better options for the armband than from them this week. They seem to be on the beach already and their manager seems fine with it too so forgive me for giving them a wide berth this time. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the other options for this week…
Harry Kane (away vs West Ham)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]After showing Arsenal who’s the top dog last weekend, Tottenham are heading into another London derby as they go face to face with West Ham. They will have to continue their 9-match winning streak to have any hope of catching Chelsea and will certainly be favorites to do so as West Ham have only registered 1 win in their last 11 PL matches. Clearly, any of Kane, Eriksen, and Alli can be considered for the armband, but I will focus on Kane here, as he is Tottenham’s top scorer and I believe he is the most likely to produce big points. Since his return from injury 3 matches ago, Kane has scored 2 goals and gotten 1 assist, garnering 21 points. After a 7-match loss streak, West Ham have managed to get somewhat better results recently, with 1 win and 3 draws. Still, Tottenham are the clear favourites for this one, making Kane a solid option for the armband.
Gabriel Jesus (home vs Crystal Palace)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]After making a speedy recovery, Gabriel Jesus made an instant impact as he netted a goal against Middlesbrough. In fact, he has managed 4 goals and 1 assist in the 3 matches he has started. I doubt Pep would even consider benching him, but with Aguero’s injury concerns, he is even more certain to start. City have dominated Palace in their most recent matches, and will be looking to get 3 points to ensure Champions League qualification next season. Many of us who brought in Palace players for their DGW were left disappointed after the event, as their recent matches have resulted in 1 win, 1 draw, and 2 losses. While City are coming from 2 disappointing draws themselves, they are favourites to beat this Palace side. Jesus is only owned by 3.2% of players, making him not only a good captain option, but a differential as well, for those of you who may be looking for that.
Josh King (home vs Stoke)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]I have seen Joshua King play many times for the Norwegian national team, and while he is one of our better players, I had never seen coming the performances he has put in in 2017! He had merely scored 3 goals up until GW22, and since then, he has netted 12 goals and gotten 1 assist. 4 of those goals have come in his last 5 matches, netting 37 points. His opponent, Stoke, have put in lacklustre performances all season, and are stuck in no-man’s land in 12th place. While they have gotten decent results at home against lesser teams, they have not won a single away game since they faced Sunderland in GW21. With King’s form and Stoke’s poor away form, I suggest that King is likely to score well in this match, making him a good candidate for the armband.
Eden Hazard (home vs Boro)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]Putting on an impressive display against Everton last round, Chelsea are 4 points ahead of Tottenham in the table, and looking at their form and fixtures, there is little reason to believe that they will not be top at the end of the season. Eden Hazard has been their standout player lately, as he has registered 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 6 matches. While generally being considered defensively solid, Middlesbrough have shown that they can concede several goals in a match, and I think that is very likely to happen at the Bridge as I expect Chelsea to go out and control the match from finish to end, playing like champions. Of course, Middlesbrough need points to avoid relegation, but if they try to attack instead of defend, I suggest that will make it even more likely for Chelsea to score multiple goals. Hazard has the easiest matchup of all the players on this list, and should be considered a good option for the armband.
Alexis Sanchez (home vs Man Utd, away vs Southampton)
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]A couple of GW’s ago, essentially every serious FPL manager was looking at this GW and were certain that Sancehz would carry the armband for them. In fact, plenty even considered triple captaining him. However, his recent returns have been extremely lacklustre: 1 goal in 7 matches. If Arsenal are to have any hope of 4th place, it is essential that they and Sanchez turn their recent performances around, and hardly any player has displayed such grit and desire to win as Sanchez. Their first match this GW, against Manchester United, will be a battle between two teams fighting for 4th place, and a must win for both. Despite his recent form, Sanchez still represents the player with the highest explosive potential this GW. I am sure that many will give him the armband, even triple captain him, and he certainly has both the character and the skills to turn his form around and carry Arsenal into 4th. For those of you who do not have Sanchez, due to financial reasons, or his lack of form, consider Mezut Ozil. Since returning in GW 22 from a small injury break, he has scored 2 goals and got 2 assists in his last 6 matches. While he does not have the explosiveness of Sanchez, he is still highly involved in Arsenal’s attack and carries a potential for both goals and assists.
Thank you for reading my article, and good luck!

The Fixture Tracker in full…
Here’s my wildcard time (0.1m in the bank) with the intention of playing the bench boost next week. I know Southampton and Arsenal don’t have great fixtures but back to back DGWs is hard to ignore especially with the Saints defenders being so cheap. What do you guys reckon?:
Not a big fan of the back five in all honesty LL, having Cech+Caballero looks to be a bit of a luxury pick as at no other time in the season would we want to have a 4.7 or a 5.3 valued GK sitting on the bench, I reckon ditch Cech down to Pickford and use that 1m saved to get you some surer starters at the back (Davies/Gabriel/Benalouane game time worries me with Rose/Mustafi/Morgan potentially returning from injury, I’d maybe take a chance on one or two but not all three.)
Cheers Andy, sounds like a good plan. I thought Rose was out for the season but I’ve just seen I’m wrong. Good thing I’ve got the time to sort it out
good evening all , RMT please
(.6 in the bank ) …weak defense I know
is it worth it to do sane to pedro and upgrade Gabriel to monreal or vert
thanx on advance
red – assuming your on wc, you could do Alonso to Azpi and Gabriel to Monreal just to be safe re Gabriel’s game time and you have the funds
I got Alonso early , selling price 6.3
Alonso and Gab or Costa and Holgate?
Is that Alonso and Jesus Smash?
Nah Gab from saints. Think I’m set on Gabriel Jesus and Kane just not sure on other place
Those fixtures are clean sheet gold potential. But Gab is dodgy (form and place ) as you could say is Costa (form) but much better team. I’d probably say Costa and Holgate.
BTW – have you looked at Kone? I think he didnt play a game lately (not sure why) but with the pressure now off somewhat, at 4.2/4.3 might be an option to consider also
Yeah thanks. Think it’s tough. I have not really looked at Kone mainly because I will have Pickford anyway and don’t want 2 players from the worst team in the league
I’m not sure what way I’d recommend Smash. At the moment my wc team has Holgate and Gabby both in it. I could go Kone and Costa also but it does feel wrong to sell Alonso.
Tekkers
Thank you for the captain’s article mate. Very good read.
I’ll probably go Hazard once I buy him.
Really TGP? Not on the article but I somewhat think it will be 60% captain choice Sanchez
I can’t captain him if I don’t have him Dreamers.
Hazard could be good for all of his next four so I’m buying for more than just this week.
True TGP. Whats your plans next couple weeks. See you have BB left
Evening guys, ive seen alot of WC teams and 5th choice seem to consist of albrighton capoue morrison romeu. All these players play for team who effectively have nothing to play for. As other dgw have proven there is a huge risk of rotation. Would it not make sense to go with a single GW player with decent fixture instead of a player soley due to dgw. none of the players i have listed have decent games. surely someone like fraser should be considered ahead of those?
Their all pretty rubbish. I guess with 2 games you are more likely to get lucky. Well that’s how I’m looking at it. Bournemouth are pretty safe now so are in a similar boat now
some others to consider clucas (hull) davies (everton) pugh (bournemouth) i guess thats what its all about Smash. and the alternative arent exactly exciting either. I brought in fraser as an enabler. i seen him as a better option for gw37 than those i have listed.
Yeah certainly Fraser is as good as any I think
Yes possibly. In my case though, and probably a few others too, I’m going with King as my SGW mid (effectively the 4th I suppose) so the 5th is a bit of a bonus doubler. Do agree they’re all poor choices though, I’ve been watching RMT’s waiting for inspiration on the pick but none has come yet!
saloba
Of course you should consider a SGW player along with those. It’s about points not minutes.
Says someone with no WC :hippo: 😉
*cries*
Sorry
That hurts…
The “no WC” part…
There’s a few of us you know :noshake:
Sorry .
ive currently got 3 SG player, king fraser and holgate. Id only have 1ft next bout im.actually considering selling either valencia or bailly instead of the SG players. Not sure if it wise but the reality is they wont play both games. Valencia could he swapped to monreal or vertonghen.
Tinkering hard to get Sanchez,
one of my 3 Amigos may have to go.
Which Spurs attacker should I lose ?
Kane
Eriksen
Ali
Or lose none
If so then Sane + King will both go plus depleted defence?
Bb available zero bank
How to get Sanchez ?
Willing to take hits.
Not sure it’s worth it then mate with no WC.
Depending on how much you paid for them – one of Alli or Eriksen to a cheapie ( say Morrison at 4.3), can you then do Sane to Sanchez?
Cheers guys
Got Ali 0.5m cheaper than he is know.
Eriksen owes me nothing however he’s been pretty Consistant.
I’ll keep Tinkering.
I’d lose Erik. Not as if you’ve not covered them and it’s for a potentially explosive player with 2 doubles ahead.
