Fantasy Premier League Set Piece Takers 2014-15

Tips Ok then so we saw quite a few requests for an updated ‘Set-Piece takers’ list on the comments recently and it jogged our memory that we hadn’t done one and as ever we took notice and decided to take action. We had a quick look around the offices of FF247 and found Eddy and Flingy slumped in the corner playing cards and a light bulb came on! So suddenly Eddy became our roving reporter and was whisked around the world to see all of the pre-season friendlies he could manage in order to bring you the latest set-piece table, while we locked Flingy in a darkened room, with Google as his only friend, to bring you the stats on last seasons set-piece specialists. Enjoy…

Please find below the FF247 Set Piece Takers List for 2014/15. This list is a guide that we hope will help you select players that have the potential to bring in goals and crucial assist points. The table is based on information gathered from last season’s games, Opta stats, pre-season friendlies and FF247 community input.

The article itself is archived under the tab at the top of the page entitled Tips/News and is linked under the drop down box ‘FPL SET-PIECE TAKERS 2014-15’ so you can refer back to it at any time, as are many of our other articles and helpful tools such as Fixture Tracker and Weekly Tips.

Please be aware that this list is subject to change due to player injuries, drop in form, suspensions, manager whims, etc. The list will be updated throughout the season and as ever we welcome anybody in our community to inform us if you are aware of any updated roles or indeed anything you think we have got wildly inaccurate! You’re not perfect and neither are we 😉

Players are listed in order of priority for each particular role –

So while Eddy was jet setting around the globe, Flingy was busy squirreling away to bring us the highlights of last season’s set-piece stats which are below for your perusal. The first deals with the players who had the ‘Most’ in each section. The second examines the teams themselves. We hope you find these both informative and helpful. There are obviously some players in there who are no longer with us (gone abroad, not died) and there are new players at some clubs who will take over some of these duties.

    What is latest on RVP?

I have/want him in my team.

    Krul, Mannone
    Luis, debuchy, wisdom, Davies, coloccini
    Snodgrass, mata, siggy,, Barkley, 4.5m
    RVP, Rooney, Costa.

If RVP not going to be playing, will change snodgrass to Hazard and RVP to Dezeko.

What do you think of the heavy forward line?

LvG said he will miss the first game, with united not rushing him back to the first XI.

      • Thanks PvR. Ill make room when he is ready. What do you think of the idea of three big hitters up forward? When RVP is playing

        • PvR says:

It’s great thanks mate, weather’s been lovely down here recently.
My team on the other hand has been changing like a newborn baby’s nappy. I can’t make my mind up about anything. I now have a cheapo 3rd striker, where as this morning I had Dzeko in the number 3 spot. I’m now planning for an early wildcard (GW3), instead of this mornings plan of keep the wc for later.

I felt quite happy with my team before the weekend, and yet I went and looked at it yesterday and decided it was crap!

I’ll probably try and cut down on the tinkering from now on in, and I think I’ll be keeping a few of my secret weapons to myself, so no RMTs 😉

          Bunny:
I would say 3 big hitters is risky, as it is likely one of them won’t perform and you’ll end up paying for it big time because you have a cheaper def/mid.

If I were going to have 3 “big hitters”, I would wait till GW 4ish to see who is in form, then WC them in. Having 3 from the start just means you have more chance of paying for it when one of them flops, and less chance of having a mid that catches fire (if that makes sense!). You can only afford one of the likes of Mata/Fabregas/Hazard/Ramsey/Sanchez/Sterling, any of which I could see becoming the next Yaya Toure fpl wise, so you’re forced into putting all of your eggs in one basket as such.

Having 3 expensive strikers could work well once we’ve seen who’s in form tho, but I wouldn’t recommend it at this stage.

        • Good advice. I’m a big RVP fan, hence my poor ranking last year.

Another thing to remember was at the start of last year there was a very high number of clean sheets and everyone was jumping on 4 or even 5 defenders. It all changed after about week 8, but I would want that again.

        • PVR, Glad the weather is nice with you. Im not sure on this whole ‘plan to WC’ thing. I was all set for it and then was thinking over my team and decided it was odd to plan on changing something that only works for a few weeks. Does that make sense? Consequently I’m going with as strong a team as possible and IF I need to change soon into the season I will. Whats your logic for the early WC?

Bunny, I like that team mate, I really do. Considering you’ve got got 3 very heavy hitters, your team isn’t too unbalanced. Clearly there are stronger teams def/mid wise and it is a risk to have two from the same team (if Man U fail to score you’d be in trouble). Latest I heard is RVP is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season but LVG has put it back on the players that where involved in WC to prove they are. Its touch and go but its a lot of money tied up in a player who may not play the first few weeks. Good luck.

      makeya says:

Maybe swap RVP for Lukaku for now? Lukaku started his Everton career very strong straight off the bat. He could produce goals early on as he will be evertons stand alone striker. Just something’s I consider.

      • that’s not a bad idea, i am just concerned about Everton’s first 7 games. I am worried about having Barkley from GW1, not sure if i would go two Everton players. ManU first 8 GW’s are wonderful and the sooner RVP is playing the better.

Ant, have a read of the convo above, also unsure about Shaw so will wait and see how Uniteds remaining preseason fixture goes. Safer bets for now might be Evans/Jones

    Excellent piece from all involved.

    Well done. Very useful.

Morning to all on this fine morning btw.
