Fantasy World Cup Live Match Chat Last 16, Day 3

Fantasy World Cup 2014

Morning Chins 😉 Welcome to the last 16 of the World cup – or the round of 16 as some choose to call it, or the first knockout stage. In fact, call it what you want – either way, it’s sudden death time – lose and you go home, outta here, offski and this will likely mean that your coach resigns or gets the chop or in England’s case receives a pat on the back and a “bad luck old chap”.

Monday is Europe vs Africa day. France vs Nigeria get’s us going – hopefully goals is the order of the day and a game akin to Nigeria’s 3-2 loss to Argentina will do very nicely, thanks lads. The evening gives us another viewing of ze Germans as zey take on ze plucky, mucky, lucky (delete as per your personal preference) Algerians. Both European sides will be favourites to go through, but it’s been a World Cup of surprises thus far so mustn’t count our chickens quite yet.

The final day of the round sees the Argies back on display as they attempt to neutralise the Swiss – that shouldn’t be tricky. However, with the likes of di Maria and Higuain quiet so far and Aguero injured (obviously), it’s been down to little Leo to carry the Argies through the group. Easy then, mark Messi out the game and you’ll be fine – how many times have we heard that before?! Switzerland’s only chance of course is if Shaqiri turns on the style and his hat-trick vs Honduras will leave him feeling on top of his game.

The round is concluded as Belgium take on the US of A. Could be a tough one to call this as Belgium have hardly set the tournament on fire as yet, while the Yanks have surprised many with their courage and adventure. Klinsmann of course, has been here before and knows what it takes to get through this stage of the tournament and there’ll surely be cries of “Mashed potato” and “You’re the man” if awesome talisman Dempsey can lead America through to the quarters, or quarter finals, or last 8, or the round of 8…..we’ve gone full circle here.

Enjoy, select your squad’s wisely and good luck.

    Ha! smile
    I am touched, thank you.

    Hi all.
I need an almighty performance from my boys tomorrow/ today/ whatever. Trailing Bigpopz by c.30 points. Not looking good.

Come on Valbuena and Matilda and Mueller!!

And thanks to whoever posted that the Greek keeper wasn’t going to make it back from injury! That was the last post i read before i went out, so i left my Dutch keeper in. I would’ve swapped if i’d known he was starting! smile

Nice one Chins! I could have switched Cillessen to Navas which would have gotten me another point, but I ended up not doing it. I’m leading Tekno by about 9 points I think. I have a few players playing tomorrow, so it should be a good day!

      • I’d take any sort of lead from where i am mate. Loving this comp despite my current standing though. It’s really made the WC more fun. Never cared about Costa Rica or Greece before today!

Good luck for the rest of the comp, and i’ll be cheering for your lot on Tuesday! smile

So i got around 24 points from my 5 players involved in Costa Rica vs Greece. Turns out all the Costa Ricans are duds, thanks to Cholevas though who bagged a massive 8 point haul.

    Anyway. Moving on.

So are we all going all in on Algeria today? 1 French, 2 Germans and 3 Algerians for me tonight.

2 French, 2 Nigerians, 2 Germans, and 3-5 Algerians for me. Points galore!

      • Kop Warrior says:

Dont forget that a number of the Agerians may be observing Ramadan!

That might be true for Benzema as well :/

        • Kop Warrior says:

          Forgot about that.

      Anti Top Four says:

29 points thus far from Cillessen, Blind and Rodriguez (and yes, I was 2 minutes late in remembering to switch the captains armband from Neymar to Rodriguez….)

      Messi out – Slimani in
      Neymar out – Djabou in
      Oscar out – Bentalib in
      Duarte out – Halliche in

      plus 2 French and 1 German…

May the footie gods smile upon Algeria smile

    The B says:

    Nigeria’s starting lineup is out:

Enyeama; Ambrose, Omeruo, Yobo, Oshaniwa; Onazi, Mikel; Moses; Odemwingie, Emenike, Musa.

    Pippin says:

So… Messi & Herrera & Manolas (together 14) out, Mueller & Valbuena & Hummels in. Should be a bonanza.

Probably going to stick on Cillessen rather than Mbolhi, but what about Bentaleb? or Belkalem if he plays? They should both beat 5 points right? (Agree that the Costa Rican punts were duds)

    Pippin

    Algerians will be immense tonight
    I cant wait

Can’t wait to see the Algerians v Germany…

I don’t think it’ll be as one sided as many think…

Depending on my French connection I may be tempted to bring in Djabou & Slimani upfront….maybe also Bentalebs in mids……

    What say you
    POTTY..?

Think we’ll have easy wins for France and Germany today. Glad they’re meeting eachother next round. Semi-finals versus Brazil or Colombia (I hope and think the latter). Germany vs Colombia in the semi finals and Argentina vs…!
