Fantasy World Cup Live Match Chat Last 16, Day 3
Morning Chins 😉 Welcome to the last 16 of the World cup – or the round of 16 as some choose to call it, or the first knockout stage. In fact, call it what you want – either way, it’s sudden death time – lose and you go home, outta here, offski and this will likely mean that your coach resigns or gets the chop or in England’s case receives a pat on the back and a “bad luck old chap”.
Monday is Europe vs Africa day. France vs Nigeria get’s us going – hopefully goals is the order of the day and a game akin to Nigeria’s 3-2 loss to Argentina will do very nicely, thanks lads. The evening gives us another viewing of ze Germans as zey take on ze plucky, mucky, lucky (delete as per your personal preference) Algerians. Both European sides will be favourites to go through, but it’s been a World Cup of surprises thus far so mustn’t count our chickens quite yet.
The final day of the round sees the Argies back on display as they attempt to neutralise the Swiss – that shouldn’t be tricky. However, with the likes of di Maria and Higuain quiet so far and Aguero injured (obviously), it’s been down to little Leo to carry the Argies through the group. Easy then, mark Messi out the game and you’ll be fine – how many times have we heard that before?! Switzerland’s only chance of course is if Shaqiri turns on the style and his hat-trick vs Honduras will leave him feeling on top of his game.
The round is concluded as Belgium take on the US of A. Could be a tough one to call this as Belgium have hardly set the tournament on fire as yet, while the Yanks have surprised many with their courage and adventure. Klinsmann of course, has been here before and knows what it takes to get through this stage of the tournament and there’ll surely be cries of “Mashed potato” and “You’re the man” if awesome talisman Dempsey can lead America through to the quarters, or quarter finals, or last 8, or the round of 8…..we’ve gone full circle here.

If Mueller gets the assist then should Valbuena get his for the Pogba goal, both had slight touches from opposing players that didn’t deflect the ball from its intended target…
It’s ridiculous how precious they are about assists and how accurately they stick to it, especially given how they have ignored the big issues like allowing formation changes without a wholesale replacement of your squad, for example. :cuckoo:
Exactly Innit, although I have enjoyed the game it has got it’s flaws. I’m not sure the clean sheet bonus it right either, surely teams should be rewarded after 90 mins. Take Germany tonight for example, there defence keeps a clean sheet for 119 mins and have jack to show for it… (I’m not bitter having doubled up on there defence or anything
) but surely extra time should count as extra points and should not effect what points are accumulated in normal time.
Totally agree, should be a 90 cut off for a CS in keeping with the group stages and then just add bonuses thereafter. I also had a double German defence though so may be biased right now! Either way it’s been a fantastic game, it just could have been so much better if they’d nailed the details as they should have. There is a website doing the rounds that allows you to customise the rules and create your own competition for a fantasy game. That could be a goer for ad hoc tournaments and things like the CL if it works out as we all know what needs to be in there but unfortunately some of the main game organisers, like McD, have people running these things that don’t actually play or understand fantasy games which is wrong.
Making your own comp sounds a lot of fun. Do they say which leagues they’ll be providing data for? Fantasy conference could be fun!

Chins they are centering on FPL initially. Not really what we need it for to be honest but the concept looks interesting. Have been trying to interact with them for days now as they approached the site via e-mail but their address is bouncing back. The guys even friended me on FB but isn’t responding to messages in there! All a bit odd. Looks legit as well with loads of advertising going on but I just can’t get him to speak to us despite him asking us to!
