Fantasy World Cup 2014

Morning Chins 😉 Welcome to the last 16 of the World cup – or the round of 16 as some choose to call it, or the first knockout stage. In fact, call it what you want – either way, it’s sudden death time – lose and you go home, outta here, offski and this will likely mean that your coach resigns or gets the chop or in England’s case receives a pat on the back and a “bad luck old chap”.

Monday is Europe vs Africa day. France vs Nigeria get’s us going – hopefully goals is the order of the day and a game akin to Nigeria’s 3-2 loss to Argentina will do very nicely, thanks lads. The evening gives us another viewing of ze Germans as zey take on ze plucky, mucky, lucky (delete as per your personal preference) Algerians. Both European sides will be favourites to go through, but it’s been a World Cup of surprises thus far so mustn’t count our chickens quite yet.

The final day of the round sees the Argies back on display as they attempt to neutralise the Swiss – that shouldn’t be tricky. However, with the likes of di Maria and Higuain quiet so far and Aguero injured (obviously), it’s been down to little Leo to carry the Argies through the group. Easy then, mark Messi out the game and you’ll be fine – how many times have we heard that before?! Switzerland’s only chance of course is if Shaqiri turns on the style and his hat-trick vs Honduras will leave him feeling on top of his game.

The round is concluded as Belgium take on the US of A. Could be a tough one to call this as Belgium have hardly set the tournament on fire as yet, while the Yanks have surprised many with their courage and adventure. Klinsmann of course, has been here before and knows what it takes to get through this stage of the tournament and there’ll surely be cries of “Mashed potato” and “You’re the man” if awesome talisman Dempsey can lead America through to the quarters, or quarter finals, or last 8, or the round of 8…..we’ve gone full circle here.

Enjoy, select your squad’s wisely and good luck.

    France lineup is out:

Lloris, Debuchy, Varane, Koscielny, Evra, Pogba, Matuidi, Cabaye, Valbuena, Giroud, Benzema.

Sakho out and Giroud in are big surprises here to note. I guess Sakho is just rested because maybe he is fasting.

There goes my switch from Maniatis to Valbuena! laugh

Would you sacrifice a 6 pointer (Blind/Gustavo) for one of the Algerians (DJabou, Bouguerra, Bentaleb)?

    The B says:

Other options? I have Hummels but he and Bentaleb will replace my 4 pointers.

Thinking whether its worth it to replace 6 pointers. Got Rojo and Messi as backups too. Also VBuyten.

I have Benzema, Müller, and Messi to play. Worth swapping the captaincy from J-Rod when you take these players into consideration? I’d be disappointed and surprised if none of them at least equaled his score.

As I failed to change it to Rodriguez, I have it now on Benzema and will monitor match to match 😉

I think so. Certainly Muller and Benzema. I’m unsure of Messi vs the Swiss.

If you feel they will then do it. I have Benzema and Messi with J-Rod sat on the c but haven’t even considered moving it.

Failed to captain JRod, so Benzema for me, and then Mueller/Messi as backup.

Thanks guys. At the same time they’re unlikely to outscore J-Rod by a considerable margin. But due to the number of quality players I have remaining, they’re unlikely to be outscored by him too.
I both want to gamble and play it safe.
      Aaaaaarghh

      The B says:

Those who didnt captain JRod are in the driving seat. One of Benzema, Muller and Messi could easily score a hattrick and equal or even pass JRod’s score. So yeah, you have got solid options there.

But Im sticking as I need to hold on a lead on the opponent.

Alright, I’m changing. YOLO bitches! (I feel so juvenile every time I say YOLO, which I rarely do). Benzema or Enyeama cap?

Howdy Alsed. Mate, you didn’t reg for our H2H properly. Veer has taken your spot but Potty said that you could join late as there was obviously some sort of fudge up along the way. Drop him a mail there and ask him what’s up. Good luck.
