Fantasy World Cup Live Match Day 15
It’s hard to believe that the group stages come to an end today! We’ve had a great two weeks of football and those of us under the age of 40 will probably agree that at this stage it is the best World Cup which we remember. We’ve already said goodbye to England, adios to Spain and arrivederci to Italy and today we could conceivably be saying adeus to Portugal…oh and let’s not forget that Luis Suarez has once more upset the holy joes!!
First up today is Group G as the US face Germany while Portugal square up to Ghana. A draw between the Germans and the Yanks will see both qualify for the next round and word on the street is that Angela and Obama have had a natter on the blower and everything has been arranged, this would see the Germans top the group. Should there be a positive result one way or the other in this game then both Portugal and Ghana will hope to take advantage with a victory, but with the Portuguese currently on a goal difference of minus 4, they’ll need a minor miracle…maybe they know a few holy joes?!!!
The final group to come to a conclusion is Group H, with Belgium having already qualified after two workmanlike victories and the Belgians will claim top spot in the should they secure at least a point from their game against South Korea. 2nd spot in the groups is very much up for grabs, although a win for Algeria over the Russians will see them progress, while a draw could possibly be enough.

Yeah i’ve racked up 121 points so far. Not sure what to do about my subs but one thing i am pleased about is the French whiffing last night. Phew!

I can’t really ask you who you got as this could help your oppo. 15 pts is makeable but not easy, your oppo may be in the akward position where they want to risk pts to gamble for me.
Its a shame we can’t see our oppos team to plan better but GL all the same

thanks mate – I don’t mind saying, it’s only a bit of fun….I have a Belgian, Russian and Algerian defender – KDB for Belgium, Ozil and Ronaldo…only 2 of those defenders will play though…..so I think the points are makeable, but it really depends who the others have.
I kind of like it we can’t see other teams – means you just play your game and don’t try and be over clever – which normally tends to backfire anyway!

Thats true about not seeing the other teams, sometimes i do tend to overthink it when i know what my rivals have got.
Ozil and Ronaldo…nice! They really ought to be doing better than they have been.
My hopes are pinned on Luka’s back and after he’s first 2 games being so poor…that isn’t a lot of hope

Now that IS a docked shot 😉 I’ve got Mbolhi to come in for Karnezis’ measly 1 point, so really hoping he starts; 2 defenders on the bench who will have to stay there, shame as I would have liked to play Kombarov; KDB, Lahm and Bentaleb, but there’s only one slot available for them as I’m keeping Di Maria’s 7 this time.

Hi guys. It’s with a heavy heart that, in light of their elimination yesterday, I announce my resignation as the official Iranian World Cup correspondent.
Looking back it’s been filled with a wide range of emotions, the elation of Ahmadi’s clean sheet in the goalless warm up against Montenegro. The despair of Ansarifard’s inability to capitalize on lapses in Angolan defending. The discovery of what Westerners seem to call ‘Internet porn’.
My fondest memory will be of the way the team fought against the odds in Brazil. But it feels right to move aside now for fresh blood to come in; and mainly because I don’t want to go back to my Tehran compound.

Don’t know if someone has reported this earlier or not, but Athletic Bilbao has reported on their site that they have rejected an offer of 36m euros by Man Utd for Herrera.

Tekno, apparently its just a technicality regarding how Bilbao do business re release clauses. They make the player himself pay the money to the club so he is seen to be activating the clause, not the buying club. The same thing happened when Martinez moved to Bayern a couple of seasons ago. United tried to do the deal in the normal fashion but now Bilbao are insisting it happens their way. The deal is still expected to go through – the player wants to move, has passed a medical at United and personal terms have been agreed.
That’s how I understand it anyway!

Yeah, in Spain it’s the players themselves who need to trigger the release clause, not the buying club. The thing is that the release clause doesn’t include taxes and VAT which together could be up to 60-70% in Spain, so a 36m release clause could in reality be ~60m. So then there’s the question if United wanna pay a sum like that. (Think Bayern got Martinez without paying much in taxes though)
