Welcome to the FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GW14. Oh dear! Our fine run of green arrows was halted in inglorious fashion as we managed just 39 points last week which saw us come crashing down the rankings by 20k to land in 58,159th. We missed the overall average by 11 points, which is never a good sign. The fact that only 3 of our original starting 11 scored over 2 points probably tells you all you need to know. Just as well we had such a strong bench then as Lucas Moura didn’t see the pitch at all in GW13, and like many, Obi Wan subsequently lit up his light-sab(v)er and came to the rescue once more. Our bench was weakly tickled in the comments last week, and possibly rightly so… (it is what it is due to many weeks of battling against the need to play an early wildcard), we only wish we could have also called upon Tomkins too!

Our decision making last week was a bit off as the double up on Wolves transfers failed miserably and Captain Richarlison didn’t exactly do us proud. Let’s go see if we can do any better this week and get ourselves back on the green track, we have 1 free transfer available and a huge bank balance of £4.8m, aka ‘Hazard’ money….

Last weeks result in full…

… should have been Hazard, if you believed last week’s article anyway! (the plan, by way of reminder, was to turn Lucas Moura into Hazard this week). And then we got thinking about Sterling… and Kane, and blue skies and funnily enough buttercups. And ultimately we decided to buy none of the above. Suffice to say we now have a new plan of action, and it could be a risky one. Let us explain……

It’s long been told that Spurs’ fixtures turn for the better come GW15 and this does indeed seem to be the case with Southampton (H), Leicester (A) and Burnley (H) as their next 3 after this weekend as well as then facing Bournemouth and Wolves at home and Cardiff away over the Christmas period. But how on earth can we afford a 2nd premium striker without killing half of our midfield and 2 of our defenders? Truth is we probably can’t and so we need a sacrificial lamb and that comes in the shape of Aguero for us (*gulp). When we delve into his fixtures versus the Kane ones above we see that he has Watford and Chelsea away after this week followed by a potentially challenging Everton tie, albeit at home. Kun has been a bit ‘meh’ away from home whereas we can see Kane being captaincy material in a good few of his games.

But of course, before Aguero exits stage left, he does have the small matter of Bournemouth at home this week and we all know how devastating both he and City can be at The Etihad and so he gets a one game stay of execution before we bring in Kane in midweek.

Kane is of course more expensive than Aguero (£0.9m in our case) and in order to accommodate him we couldn’t afford to bring in Sterling, or indeed Hazard this week. Instead we have turned our intentions to a ‘budget’ City mid in the form of Leroy Sane. At about £2m cheaper than the aforementioned duo he has scored 69 points, which on the face of it is much less than their 95 and 83 but his minutes are far less and his PP90 (points per 90 mins) is actually higher at 10.5 to Sterling’s 9.2 and Hazard’s 8.5. This allows us to keep some semblance of City coverage without overstretching our budget and hopefully also double City coverage for this week, assuming Sane plays, which of course is a different story (risk) altogether… The fact that we had to even resort to PP90 says it all in terms of possible rotation but we do feel that with Mendy out for the foreseeable he will see more minutes as that natural width on the left is absent without either. Indeed, last time Mendy was out (GW’s 5 – 7), it was no surprise, or probably coincidence, that Sane started all of those, just as he did last week with Mendy being out once more.

We did briefly consider keeping Lucas Moura and ditching Ryan Fraser instead as like Kane and Kun their fixtures are very contrasting but with Moura now having Son et al nipping at his heels, and with Sane coming in, we felt that having 2 possible rotation candidates may just be a stretch too far.

And so to confirm, this week’s transfer is Lucas Moura to Leroy Sane

Our Captain is Sergio Aguero
This was unanimous, not a single vote went elsewhere. The only query raised was “What’s the word on Jesus?” and the inevitably mature responses included “Doesn’t exist” and “He’ll be around on the 25th (of December), wouldn’t expect to see him any earlier”. Let us pray that he doesn’t appear this week then, and if he does then Salah has got our vice-captaincy, again this was unanimous, just for the record.

  1. Last minute panic attack…..Would anyone have any info on Hazard? Will he start? Will he play? Still mulling a Haz>Sterling for this GW.

    • He’s trained weds. That’s all we really have. Think he starts but prob comes off early

      • I guess it comes down to whether I think Sterling will outscore Hazard……Friday decision time is stressful given I have to pull the trigger by 11am here.

    • I want to do this but Sterling is a risk of Rotation don’t you think?

      • Sterling is probably a similar risk. Doubt he plays next three it’s just which one does he miss

    • Sometimes the best thing to do is to do nothing.

      I’d keep Hazard if you’re unsure.

    • Don’t Panic and carry a towel, eh?

    • Sarri said Hazard needs to play matches to get in the best possible physical condition so that would imply he will play, given Hazard is able to! But Haz has been training so he should be able to, he will most likely start so just keep him for this week as it’s so juicy fixture!

  2. Afternoon everyone. Simple question:

    Brooks or Kenedy?

    Fixtures say Kenedy but Brooks has the form and is doing well this season. This will be to replace Knockaert.

    • Is this to play each week or bench. Brooks is better pick but those fixtures. Maybe Kenedy not sure

      • I haven’t decided that just yet. I think it’ll be bench most weeks but want them to do the job if needed.

        I’m thinking Kenedy because Newcastle aren’t doing that bad and their fixtures are lovely.

    • Seems pretty sideways to me Matt.

      • Hey Brook. It is pretty sideways but I’ve got 2 fts so I might aswell use one and Knock isn’t doing much for me.

    • Brooks I’ve quite like when I’ve seen him.

      Does this need to be done today?

      • I like the look of Brooks too but when I’ve watched Newcastle (which isn’t much!) Kenedy is looking great for them.

        It would unfortunately because I’d lose a FT otherwise.

    • Brooks for me Matt.
      I might be biased because I own him but the eye test is conclusive and Bournemouth are very attacking, unlike Newcastle.

    • I would take a little punt on Billing! Can you spend more or is 4.5 your limit?

      You could also go with Kayal at 4.4. Who is also a goal threat.

      • Just beware Billing and Kayal are both on 4 bookings !

      • Funny thing, I have no ideas on what transfers to make so I’ll sort out Ward! 😮

        I’m leaning towards Camarasa. If I would spend more I would go Paterson but I don’t have enough and I don’t think it’s worth it for my 15th player.

        • I brought in Camarasa last week or the one before. I have decided to start him over Fraser this week since Bournemouth is away to City.

        • I’d probably go with Camarasa looking at your team now that I know about the cards.

        • What about Trippier to Walker?

        • I haven’t been impressed by Walker, Gallant Pioneer. I prefer to keep Trippier for the moment as Spurs fixtures are turning and I believe he is due to some points.

        • Team looks good. It’s difficult. Unless you want to downgrade a keeper to give you the cash for Kane in for Aguero next week. Think Trippier is due back soon but 3 games quite quickly

      • I like the Diangana idea. He has looked really exciting going forward. I have Kayal in that slot and I’m happy with him, but if I were purchasing now I think Diangana would definitely be on my short list!

    • Thank you, everyone! Amazing response. I’ll do a “high-class waiting move” as we call it in chess and do Ward to Camarasa. No need to risk my 15th player and he may get some points during the Christmas period.

    • Yeah, I like that, nice differential too, for now.

    • If nothing else on maybe. Ozil needs to go but he’s strong at home and will probably have something to prove this week

      • I don’t think özil will start on Sunday, I would get Son but he’s at a risk of rotation with moura and lamela isn’t he?

  6. Very similar team to mine and I have the same bench plus Ings. Leave Rich on the bench as if he can’t score against Cardiff at home he is unlikely to score against Liverpool away.
