We need to talk about Kevin… again!
It’s amazing what a difference 1 solitary player can make to a GW. With 7 of our players, including our captain, gifting us just 21 points we were going into the Liverpool game staring down the barrel of yet another disappointing red arrow. Alexander-Arnold surpassed this on his own with an amazing 24, and Mane chipped in with an assist too. The outlier from all this was Alli who had earlier grabbed us a goal. For once our latest signing also did something as Grealish got us an assist too. In the late game Jimenez got us a goal and an assist leaving us on a total of 70 points for the week which meant a fair jump back up the ranks to some degree of acceptable decency; we gained about 50,000 places and now sit in approximately 60,000th according to some ‘outside of FPL sources’ (at the time of writing the actual official ranks are still updating, but you get the gist; we are in the green).
Going into GW20 we have 1 free transfer and £3.7m in the bank. Let’s go see what was decided…

Some things just aren’t meant to be. On at least 3 separate occasions this season we have talked about / saved up money for bringing Kevin into our team but for whatever reason it’s just never happened. Well, make that 4! Last time out we stated our intention to buy him this week for Zaha but we were fully aware that we were leaving ourselves vulnerable as it was dead on the money. A -4 to secure it early was discussed but at that point it made little sense as it meant benching one of a seemingly strong front 8. We did however also agree that if we were scuppered then we would still be happy enough to proceed with Zaha away to the Saints and simply hope that it was a blessing in disguise and that Pep would rescue us with his rotational habits.
And sure enough a pesky overnight price change means that we are yet again left to talk about Kevin for another day.
To confirm then we have HELD our transfer
Captain – Sadio Mane
Not the easiest fixture on paper this week, but almost certainly the strongest team, and having seen Liverpool make Leicester look like Lincoln we are hoping Mane can make Wolves look like Wycombe.
For the record he got 3 votes, Vardy got 1 and Alli got mentioned along the way too, mainly as a vice.

I only put Alli in the other day, is he worth starting or should I bench him for Maddison? Maddison is on the bench because of his appalling form, beginning to wish I had kept Son and Richarlison and dropped Maddison for Alli, anyway, I don’t know now Alli is a risk as he was my captain, I cannot see Mane or KdB doing much, Wolves will really be up for the game and Man City will be down and out after yesterday’s game, I don’t have much faith in Grealish or Vardy or even Rashford.
Tempted to switch Soyunco for Lundstrom and captain him as the former is useless recently.
Leave as is if you ask me.
With the chance of rotation this week, Maddison might just come off the bench for you.
I’m tempted to, however I think that if Alli does play it won’t be for very long, so I have changed to this.

True GP. Over the Xmas period I prefer a full squad as there are always rotation issues. Rogers did say Vardy wouldn’t play all the games so maybe having him as Cap is not a good move

My latest wc draft. Not really made that many changes from my original team. Tomori, Cantwell and Tammy out for soyuncu, romeu and rashford. What do people think? Also thought to bring in Ryan but I’m 0.1m short. Thinking of going for ramsdale as decent fixtures or just stick with pope?

Morning guys. Any news on the Alli flag? I can afford Alli to Salah or Mane so I was thinking of getting Salah in. Also think that Mendy is a rotation risk and thinking of dropping him. Any thoughts?

Alli to salah sounds good. With city’s left back situation who knows, you could downgrade him to someone like Kelly giving funds for elsewhere
I am leaving the excitement for the last game. It was obvious that Pep needs Kevin for tomorrow when he was substituted early. In the meantime pool had a great Christmas but a busy schedule including the trip to Qatar. I wouldn’t be surprised if Klop gives a rest to a few and see the likes of Shaqiri, Origi and Lallana. Very tempted to go with Kane as well, as he is the only 100% sure starter in those rotations times.
