9-a-side?

Disaster! A shambolic game-week in every sense. A derisory 46 points has given us the reddest of arrows. We won’t take you through all of the disaster zones, there were just too many but when our bench contributes just as much as our two Leicester no-shows the writing is on the wall. At least we captained our best performer (Manè). Aside from him only TAA & Abraham contributed more than the minimum. And we only had 9 of our 15 actually bother to turn up… Time to shake ourselves down and move on asap.

Our GW20 Result…

Let’s go see what was decided…

Our GW21 Transfer(s)
We’ve only gone and done it! After continuously missing out on him over the past few weeks, we have eventually signed Kevin de Bruyne. The first suggestion made at this week’s transfer meeting was McGinn to Cantwell and Zaha to KdB. Adama ‘Muscles’ Traore was then mentioned. One of the management team was particularly bitter that Muscles has quite recently risen in price and took great joy in the fact he only cameo’d against Liverpool. McGinn to Muscles was suggested but that would have created a benching headache. After talking nonsense for a period of time a vote was taken on the original suggestion and the vote was carried.

To confirm then we have SOLD John McGinn & Wilfried Zaha, and BOUGHT Kevin de Bruyne and Todd Cantwell

Captain – Jamie Vardy
The logic behind voting for Vardy is that he’s guaranteed to start and the same can not be said of our other options. To be fair, it’s not like Vardy has what could be described as a difficult game, after all Newcastle have recently conceded four against Man United!!!

For the record Mane and TAA recived one vote apiece.

I need help. Having the worst season. Think I need to address not having TAA. He just looks so dangerous all the time. To find I need to lose Alli or Salah really. I have nothing in the bank and two free transfers. Have to admit I’m not completely sold on Traore

    A) TAA, Maupay and Romeu in for Alli, Greenwood and Kelly (-4)
    B) Traore and TAA in for Alli and Kelly
    C) Any other ideas as not convinced

    • 19.1

B is the most attractive there I think Smash.

Smash, I have to agree about TAA, not having him has been dragging me down big time. As already missed that train I am delaying the move for GW 24 and sorting out other issues like Pope in the meantime.
Maybe do something else at the moment with the 1 FT and then next use 2 for some kind of combo with Tammy and Grealish whos fixtures are turning unpleasant.

      Kralin says:

I feel your pain, Smash. We all do.

I would just bite the bullet and ditch either Mane or Salah – I currently have Salah – and get TAA and the best midfielder you can get with the change. But you need TAA or Robertson in there. I went for TAA + Robertson and Salah when I played a mildly successful wildcard a few weeks ago.

I’ve had a sensationally bad run of captain picks this season – though sticking with Vardy generally seems to work – and so am a bit off the pace.

      • Smash says:

Yeah I’m captaining Vardy. If I was wildcarding again think I’d go with TAA, Robbo and Mane but feel I can’t really go back. Yeah same I don’t think you could make up my captain run this season

      • AJW says:

Kralin – you’re back! Returned from some Conrad-inspired journey perhaps? Or maybe some mission for MI6 I expect! Great to see your name posted again. Shan’t bore you with the highs and lows of my FPL existence – the sad story is revealed on the week by week report linked to my name. Glad to see you around again. Happy end of year festivities. smile AJW.

        • Kralin says:

Evening AJW, nice to see you. Funnily enough I miraculously avoided having to endure the epic version of Apocalype Now that did the rounds of cinemas recently. Watching that film (it’s never a good moment for a film when Dennis Hopper appears) beyond the bunny sequence pushes you well over the Shadow Line.

On a happier note, I ate some boudin noir last week. Spent Xmas in Normandy. I only ever seem to eat it in a crêpe, as I did in Bayeux. I also saw it in a bread (along with apple) at a posh boulangerie in Deauville.

My team isn’t doing brilliantly this year – drifting is the best word to describe it. Perhaps I need to be more right-wing in my management of it. Maybe it needs the smack of firm leadership.

Happy new year to you too.

Interesting I was leaning at A but I don’t trust myself much currently so I might just go B

This is my team for this week.
Did Alli and Mousset to Traore and Jimenez. A lot of eggs in Wolves basket!
Should I start Kelly or Rico?

      Kralin says:

Having been absent from the site for what seems like the duration of the First World War, it’s very interesting to see people’s sides. It seems mind-boggling that you don’t have a Liverpool mid in there, but for all I know you could be Magnus Carlsen himself!

Isn’t the entire Bournemouth defence AWOL at the moment? So clean sheet chances may not be great. I appreciate however their fixtures are all right (I’m half thinking of getting one of their attacking players, if any are still standing).

      • inittowinit says:

Welcome back Kralin! That’s made my Christmas seeing you around again. Hope you are well. You’ve been missed.

      • Smash says:

Good to have you back Kralin. For all I know not owning Liverpool midfielders might be the way to go. I mean I own both and that speaks volumes

        • Kralin says:

When I wildcarded I went back to plan a from the start of the season – both their full-backs – and will probably keep it that way now.

      • Frenchie says:

        Nice to see you Kralin.

Indeed no Liverpool mid makes me feel like an exception at the moment, but it’s only temporary (I sold Mane before their blank, and Son red card forced me to adjust my plans, without taking an insane amount of hits!).
I’ll bring one for sure soon, and maybe two with GW24 looming.

        • Kralin says:

          Nice to see you too.

Yes – I brought Son in for Salah in 18 then rapidly back-pedalled after that (pretty funny, really) disaster.

I always find those sell a player one week, bring him back the next, a bit like absolute denial that you’ve made a blunder (though it’s worse when the player you remove scores three goals). At least Salah & Co were out of the country this time: there was a reasonable excuse.

      inittowinit says:

Vardy or Kane. Although I’d probably go Mane if we knew for sure he’d start. You?

      • Mitro says:

On salah but thinking vardy or Kane may be the better option

      • Init, are we gonna have one last go with HurriKane :scratch_one-s_head:
He has not failed scoring against Soton, not to mention the hatty two years ago, although that was at so called home Wembley at the the time

        • Mitro says:

Just out of interest what is his record against them?

        • inittowinit says:

Not sure Ivan. As in not decided fully yet. Had it on Kane and switched to Vardy earlier, which is unlike me as I normally just pick and go.

Mitro, I’ll not spoil the Capos article that is coming later but there’s a great infographic on there about how each player has fared against their respective oppos previously and I believe Kane stands out.

        • Carolyn says:

My new year resolution is to captain the first player that I have in the captain article, had a rubbish season picking caps this season.

Welcome back Kralin, it’s great to see you smile

        • Kralin says:

Evening Carolyn and thanks. It’s nice to be back.

In my period of exile I got rid of about 99% of the fantasy football sites I’d been wasting my time looking at – the sort of sites that showed me in explicit detail how useless my captain choices have been so far, for example*. I then just stuck the captaincy on Vardy and my fortunes briefly turned for the better.

Having said all that, Salah for me is a huge temptation this GW (as he was last).

*Other stuff I don’t look at any more includes the sites that show you how you’re doing for BPS so far this GW and what your provisional OR is. I needed this type of decluttering and don’t miss it at all.

        • inittowinit says:

Carolyn, do you have Danny Ings?! I’m not suggesting some of the writers have lost the plot but I can always move him down a bit if you have!

        • Carolyn says:

Good idea to get rid of the provisional sites, not a lot you can do once the game week starts is there, best just to come on here and have a moan or celebrate with the rest of us.

        • Carolyn says:

No Innit, I haven’t but thanks for checking, I would have broke my resolution even quicker than normal if I had

    specialK says:

Hope everyone is enjoying the break, here is my team for GW21. I have ZERO in the bank and 1 FT. Not a disaster of a squad but needs some tweaks, any obvious red flags you can see?

    MHD says:

    Hi there folks.
How can i get TAA longterm? [No hits if possible. Currently on 1FT & Zero ITB].
P.S don’t laugh at my Pogba pick.

      Kralin says:

It’s as if you’ve set us a riddle that by solving will unlock the secrets of the universe.

You’ll have to roll the transfer and manage it with 2FT next week.

Maybe your Pogba pick – and I have a weakness for the Pog, always have – will be the key (in that ditching him for an enabling cheapo will enable you to gather TAA up next week without too much trouble).

    • 23.2
      specialK says:

You’d have to roll the FT for this week and then look at moving Pogba or Ali on to release funds making way for TAA to come in.

    AJW says:

Hahaha typical me! I’ve got my greetings attached to a post on a previous page! The prodigal son (not he of the red cards!) has returned. That fatted calf is certainly looking nervous! Welcome back old fellow! smile

      Kralin says:

PS – you must be concerned about the fires consuming your homeland. I hope your friends / family are coping with that hellish conflagration.

      • AJW says:

Thanks for the reply Kralin – and the kind words Initt.
Yes family and friends safe and coping, but have described the utter madness and random destruction caused by the blazes. The country is having to live with it and all are affected in some way (even Sydney is invaded by smoke, soot and heavy pollution). When you look at the size of the population, and the number of firefighters, both professional and voluntary, you’ve got to admire their generosity, courage and tenacity. However, I won’t go into a ramble about people who are far braver and more meritorious than I!
Safe to say welcome back old chum – glad to have your benevolent self onboard again.
Hope your foray into Normandy was well spent – admit that I haven’t touched any ‘boudin noir’ (or ‘blanc’) for a while – but glad to see you venturing forth, geographically and in a culinary sense! smile
BTW – have recently reacquired Mo Salah (after letting Sadio go before the Qatar trip for Son!), and will now persist in this way, unless he treads the Theo Walcott path smile !
I have also acted rashly this week, having 2FTs and using 3! Richarlison, Pope, Abraham > KDB, Fabianski + Haller (Of all people! But one contributor gave this as a suggestion to get ahead of the pack in case of a possible ‘Moyes Effect’ taking place at WHU! Saw the fixtures and plunged – although I was planning to reinstate Jimi in the place of Tammy! Ooh, I’m worried already! Groan, groan! )
Anyway bye for now and good luck for the coming rounds – FPL does seem to become an obsession and I found myself listening to obscure podcasts on the way to work before Xmas, so may have to cut back to essentials (i.e. Here and FPL Official stuff – J. Richardson does seem pretty reasonable!)! End of ramble! smile

        • Kralin says:

Fab is someone I’m pondering for the DGW; I’ve had the pope sat on the chair of St Peter all season in my side. I haven’t researched Everton at all but their cheap striker has some appeal, if I go to 3/4/3. Richarlison is a handy player who has a tendency to keep the points flowing.

        • AJW says:

Yes was going to keep the pontif one more week but saw John Paul II’s compatriot was rising in price so I decided to send up the white smoke and yell out ‘Habemus Fabianski’! If Haller fails then there is always DCL or Jimi to fill his spot after GW24. Bye for now

    • 24.2
      inittowinit says:

I knew you’d be pleased to see him! It’s great that you can be gone for so long having actually been here so briefly to begin with and yet still be welcomed back so fondly by so many. Although I do appreciate that you’ve known each other much longer than I and others have.

      • Kralin says:

It’s a tricky thing to manage, in that a notice of absence seemed overly pompous and self-important and yet not doing it seemed a tad heartless, to me anyway – just vanishing without trace after being a regular poster.

        Anyhow, life goes on.
