A lucky touch of genius
“We have decided to simply bend over and take whatever Pep gives us, good or bad”. That was a quote from last week in relation to buying Aguero. Turns out he was in a giving mood! Two transfers and four goals; you could be forgiven for thinking we may be a bunch of geniuses, but anybody who actually read how we arrived at last weeks decision to bring in Kun and captain him will know very differently! It wasn’t an entirely unplanned birth in the end, but our intentions did start out very differently, let’s just say the condom broke and leave it at that…
An 8th green arrow in a row sees us up to another season high of 21,336th, a rise of about 10k. Kun obviously did his bit, as did Son, elsewhere Jimenez starred with a 9, Pogba got a sublime assist, as did Doherty (less sublime though!) and Wan-B and Shaw did their bits with clean sheets. The rest simply made up the numbers to see us end up on a fairly respectable 88 points, 23 above the average.
Last week’s result…
This week’s transfer decision…
We go into this week with 1 free transfer and £0.3m in the bank. We have to have an eye on the blanks ahead in GW27 of course, and to that end we are without Digne, Sane and Aguero for that one as we stand. Let’s go see how we plan to juggle that with the need for actual points this week….
It was a fairly simple and unanimous decision this week, there are no tales of incompetence or internal struggles to regale you with this week, unfortunately. As much as Aguero was a welcome addition last week, and as much as he served his purpose, we are nothing if not ruthless in our pursuit of points and quite simply Aubameyang suits us perfectly this week in that respect, on more than one level. He has the better (arguably the best; see Huddersfield) fixture and he’s a bit of a flat track bully against this sort of opposition; it’s difficult not to offend somebody along the line when you say this but he has 24 points against Fulham and 20 against Cardiff over two games and double digits against Burnley and… Spurs.
To confirm then; we are SELLING AGUERO & BUYING AUBAMEYANG
Our Captain is Mo Salah
New recruit PEA was well and truly in the mix here but Mo just edged him by the finest of margins. It could be that Bournemouth’s form against the ‘big 6’ swayed the vote; 8 games, 7 defeats, 22 conceded, and in some of those games heavily so. Or it could be the memory of what Salah did to them last time. Or it could be that we just think Liverpool may suddenly reawaken and kick on again and that this feels like the sort of fixture in which that may happen. Or it could all just be pie in the (blue) sky thinking. For the record, our one Liverpool fan voted for Aubameyang!

***NEW ARTICLE – FF247 SITE TEAM GW26***
The committee have sat, spoken and been utterly ruthless.
Let’s just hope he now recovers from his sniffles!
Ruthless to the end guys, great team.
Am in a similar position myself but have an upcoming GK problem with the blank GW coming up.
I am thinking of rolling the FT this week but PEA is so tempting.
Can you not still buy him and just deal with the keeper next week?
I guess I could Innit, need to find a decent budget keeper. Foster, Boruc or maybe Ryan… he’ll just be an understudy for Ederson really.
The site team is doing fantastic this season, I’ve learned an important lesson from it which goes against everything I’ve ever thought with regards to FPL and they clearly work:
Always focus on your weakest link: it’s always been my belief to deal with your problem areas first, case in point would be Wilson, truth is just bench him and deal with your potential strongest link first I.e. Kun to Auba.
The other thing is patience, when you’re r a little less invested in a team and have to run all decisions past 4 other people the chances are you will invariably act in a slightly more cautious manor than usual, and as we all know patience is the name of the game!
Great work guys, I hope that dude with the perm and Danny G are sharing similarly highly OR after following the team religiously!
Fantastic points! Especially the patience!
My biggest lesson from it is very similar and it’s also something I always believe in, but often also forget; go Route One first and foremost.
The theory, at least, is that the biggest (and usually most obvious) point opportunities should be prioritised and actioned. Means you don’t always have the prettiest squad but usually means you have the points on the pitch. We had a debate recently when one of the committee wanted to take a -4 to basically plump up the squad by dealing with red flags rather than just going said route one. And I get that totally, I do also however think that’s why some of us get bogged down by ‘over tending’ to our team. And why so many people report (Hi Ivan!) their 2nd team as doing better, because there’s less T&C on that one and more of a gut reaction such as: ‘I want those players this week, I don’t really care about this team, I’m buying them regardless’, etc.
I also find that that’s when hits work out best too, when they’re concentrated on the route one approach. A couple of big hitters in tends to work, start throwing in wishy washy enablers and they invariably don’t.
Just my random take aways from it anyway!
100% Init. It’s that lesson that I have (finally) learnt this season.
Get the superstars in for that week.
The proof is this – go back to your best GWs and invariably there will be a couple of 1pters in there.
You don’t need the perfect squad or indeed XI.
There was one GW last season which I remember vividly when I deliberately went in with 10 players! And that was after making a transfer to take out a playing player. I was without a keeper basically. I haven’t been anywhere near as buccaneer this season and perhaps that shows in the poor results. Time to buckle up maybe.
You’ve had a pretty unlucky run for the last 10 weeks or so.
I’ll be honest, you are my benchmark each season and you were 20/30 pts above me not so long ago.
Due to not seeing a capo change 1 week and not being able to afford the same exact team I’m actually 20pointsabove site team… sheer fluke like , cant claim any credit. Also unfortunately my avatar isn’t actually me… Its more of an ironic name due to me having curly hair but now goin a little thin, sorry to burst any illusions lol.
Start AWB or bednarek?
AWB
Great work guys. I’m desperate for this GW to get going so I don’t have to read any more about what could’ve been with Kun captainers!
FT used already. Any need for further changes to this lot? PEA for a hit?
For whom? Kun? I don’t know
Same boat with Kun > PEA, thinking of holding if that helps.
Similarly. Was about 75% sure I’d get Auba in, now more 50/50. Will over think that one later.
If I were to remove a City player from that side it would be Sane, for Mane. As Kun is likely to play.
But for a hit I’m not sure. Your subs’ bench is strong so if Sane misses out again then you have pretty good cover.
The one thing that’s swaying me is that most people have Kun so a switch to PEA could be a nice differential
Aubem flagged? Why?
Aaah. I read he’s ill.
Missed training today but Emery says he’ll be fit for Saturday
Yeah, ill. Weird of him to say that.. illness can take all energy out of the body.
.
Emery used the code for ‘he had a cold’, can we move along now? ;-}
