Paying the penalty…
The upside to selecting penalty takers is obvious, the downside is a -2 if they ever miss one. To have one do so is bad luck, to have two doing so leaves you looking around for dead black cats in your rear view mirror. Twice.
Pogba and Aubameyang combined for a -2 for us, not quite what you expect for a near combined £19m outlay and 20% of your FPL budget! The fact that we had 14 points sat on the bench doesn’t help matters but the rest pulled together to somehow get us 51 and a green arrow. Albeit a small one, we moved up about 6k to land in 30,118th position. Feels a bit like we are treading water but with all the chips to come we are still hopeful that we are well poised for a strong finish.
Jimenez and Hazard were our top performers with 12 point apiece, Hazard only getting there with the armband attached, although it was probably still a weightier armband than many others experienced. TAA came through for us again with a 9 thanks to a clean sheet and another full bonus point worthy performance. Barnes got us a goal and 6 points, Fabianski finally got us a clan sheet for the same whilst the rest muddled along with bits. Having Digne and wan-B buried on the bench for a combined 12 is regretful and irksome in equal measure. But c’est la vie, and onto this week’s decisions…
Last week’s result…
Before we get going on this weeks decisions we should remind you that;
THIS WEEKS DEADLINE IS; SATURDAY @ 11:30
This week’s transfer decision…
This week we had 1 FT and £1.3m in the bank, and some major chip decisions to make…
We shall address the chip situation first, as that really dictates which transfers we are making for the next two weeks –
As things stand we have;
GW31: 7 players.
GW32: 4 with a definite DGW, 2 others with a TBC DGW.
GW33: 6 with a definite fixture, 2 others with a possible.
This screams obvious things to us, namely that we can cope more than adequately for BGW’s 31 & 33, especially with 2 & 3 free transfers ahead of them respectively. We can look to field an almost entire 11 in each if we so wished, although doing so for 31 may require tapping into the good old -2 hit theory for a definite nonstarter.
It also says that we should therefore FH in DGW32, as although 4 plus a possible 2 could become an 8 with free transfers, and a bit of luck, we would not have the same flexibility in terms of basically hand picking the ones we actually want to have for it. Our CHIP PLAN is therefore, in theory, going to be;
FH32
WC34
BB35
TC on a single GW (A title chasing Liverpool at home to a probably already relegated Huddersfield in GW36, just as an example…!)
With all of that in mind we concentrated our decision this week on bringing in the best asset we could who had a fixture in both 31 & 33. Mane was mentioned (for Pogba), Brooks was mentioned (for Camarasa), a 2nd Liverpool defender was mooted but also soon booted when it was pointed out that we couldn’t afford one! Vardy with Fulham at home was mentioned and picked up momentum quicker than it takes Brendan to mention ‘character’ in a press conference.
To confirm then; we have BOUGHT VARDY & SOLD AUBAMEYANG
Our Captain is Salah, our Vice is Vardy
There was much fence sitting on this issue, a few committee members were quite happy to go straight from asking Vardy out on a date to lifting his shirt up, fondling him a bit and asking him to go all the way… A few others were more happy to go with Salah and his potentially higher FPL ceiling. Without going into lurid details about what people would actually do to Salah if he screwed us all over again we went with the ceiling theory. We get the feeling that we (and them both) are getting screwed either way…

Any thoughts on what to do with my team? Was thinking hold but am I missing something?
In prep for the coming weeks what are my best options?
Was thinking FH 32 WC 34 ?
How many players have you got there for 31 & 33?
31 I’ve got 4! 33 I’ve got 7! Not ideal
Having just seen that FH 31 TC 32 WC 33???
Which brings me back to should I be using my transfer this week!? Any suggestions
In all honesty I’d just look at making your next few transfers players who play in both 31 and definitely in 33 (as we stand; see Fixture Tracker for anyone in green who doesn’t have ‘A Risk’ next to them). Get what you can for those 2 and play your WC in 32.
morning all. plan is to use the FH in GW32. 2FT and 0.3ITB. planning to bring in higuain and vardy for aguero and rashford. good moves to go with ?
Personally I think so. Others may disagree, especially on the Kun one. Both moves set you up nicely for 31 & 33 though.
cheers innit. i am willing to take a gamble if that means no city cover this weekend. have a feeling vardy/higuain could match kun’s tally (me hoping aguero doesnt get more than 60 mins if he starts).
whats your chip strategy in the upcoming weeks if you don’t mind me asking? any transfer moves you are considering for GW 30?
Very similar. Eyeing Kun and Jimenez out for Higuaín and Vardy for the same reasons, then FH32, WC34, BB35 and TC whenever. Was originally looking at FH31 so I could TC in 32 but on reflection the teams / players available aren’t really exciting or varied enough and I’d have only had a similar issue in 33 and I can come close enough to a FH team for those 2 with a few transfers.
did have a long hard think about FH31 and after consulting with a few, I do not think its worth to lose that chip with no players particularly exciting barring a few players from chelsea, Pool and vardy hence, sticking with FH in GW32.
thats a good strategy there and sensible. how many players you eyeing for GW31 and GW33 at present? I am eyeing at 8 at the moment but tempted to go with 9, meaning id take a minus 8 hit.
For 31 I’d have 6 plus a FT so 7, although I’ll almost certainly take a hit or 2 to go to 8/9.
For 33 I have 6 with a game, which would be 7-10 by then as well as currently having another 5 with an ‘At Risk’ sticker next to them.
So 33 looks fine, 31 less so but as I say not too fussed on filling up with players who either don’t normally perform, in some faint hope they suddenly do, or have a dodgy fixture anyway.
i think i am in the same boat as you in regards to tackling GW31 and 33 players. best of luck on whatever players you can fill in your starting 11
Morning
Any advise please
2FT & 0.6 ITB
Are you going for a FH in GW31?
I have all my chips still – so is possible?
Giving advice on any potential transfers would, for me at least, be dependant on chip strategy for GWs 31-35. Personalli am looking to FH in GW32, meaning i have set my team up to have 10-11 players who playes in GW 31 and GW33. Unless i’m miscounting, your side currently contains 5 players with a fixture in GW31 and 8 players who will blank in GW31 and have a double GW in GW32. Strategically, it’ll probably be “easier” to set up for a FH in GW31.
If that’s the strategy you’re going for, i’d probably look at transferring in a player with a DGW in GW32, and with a high likelyhood of having a fixture in BGW33. Arsenal look certain to blank i GW31, double GW in GW32, and play in GW 33. Perhaps they’ll be the way to go?
So I’m looking for any players ahead of the double game week … Chelsea / Spurs / Arsenal ???
hi branchy. you think you can get to 8-9 GW31 players with a couple of hits? I personally not a fan of FH in GW31 (see above post)
I’m sure it’s possible, with 2FT currently- who should I be looking to get in ?
branchy – i am personally looking at a few optios: Brooks, Higuain, Vardy, Mane and Hazard
Should I downgrade Son or another mid to get another striker ?
Hey guys, how’s everyone doing? Thanks for all the great articles.
I’m thinking maybe jimenez and Bennett to King and Shar for 21. I may even do the King move this week for a hit. What’s the thinking? Any other ideas I haven’t thought about?
Thanks guys.
Really not sure on the Schar move, probably less so in tandem with King for a hit. Sounds like you’d be taking a hit in the hope that pays off and subsequently cancels out any chance of a clean sheet for the other!
Schar also is not guaranteed a game in 33, if that’s a consideration for you.
What’s ITB?
Also Schar is one card away from a 2 game ban.
Thanks Initt, 0.0 itb and 0 transfers. I might just leave as is , and try to get Vardy in next week. I could get Vardy and Jorginho in for Jimenez and Milivojovic, would this sound better, do u think?
I wouldn’t bother with Jorginho!
I’m not sure what chips you have left, but you could bring Vardy in for Kun which would leave you plenty of spare cash to upgrade Mili.
Does Brooks work instead of Jorginho
Brooks could be the way to go I suppose, I have all chips and wc left, but I’m reluctant to lose Kun, it could be tricky to bring him back in again.I’m actually 0.4 short for Vardy and Brooks. It’s Jorginho or Camarasa for Mili for 4.6.
I understand what you mean about Kun and buying him back. However, you’ll probably get him back using a FH & again on a WC, and there’s always a way to fit players in in such situations.
True, thanks for the help guys, I suppose if I’m losing Kun, I should do it this week and have Vardy for the two games to get the full benefit of his fixtures, even for a hit.
Hi all,
2.9 ITB 1FT. Looking at Jimenez or Pogba out for Hazard or Higuain?
Lossl Patricio
Keane Shaw Bennett TAA Pereira
Salah Mane Pogba Son Masuaku
Jimenez Vardy Barnes
Jimenez for Higuain seems sensible. Pogba (and Utd) are perfectly capable of scoring a few at Arsenal.
Here’s my team for GW30 guys.
For me personally this is how I’m playing my chips over the coming weeks:
GW31 – Free Hit
GW32 – Triple Captain
GW33 – Wildcard
GW34 – (3 transfers, 1 hit)
GW35 – Bench Boost?
My current conundrum… with 2.9m ITB and 1 FT, do I take out Jiménez for:
A) Vardy
B) Higuain
C) Zaha
Personally, I’m leaning towards Vardy because Fulham are just that poor! But Zaha’s popped up on my radar this morning… what do you think?
I’d go for Vardy out of the 3 personally.
