FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GWX
Oh b*llocks, is it?!
Welcome to FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GWX. No, this isn’t an April Fools Day joke, we are actually publishing a Site Team article! Why? Well, because we meant to do one two weeks ago, and then again last week also, but we didn’t, for reasons which we shall expand on later. Perhaps also it is because we are a bit bored, and simply not used to having a break. But also it is to remind you of a few key FPL related things, which may have slipped your mind, understandably.
We shall however begin with an update of our GW29 performance, at least for some semblence of normality, if nothing else. Looking back at it, into what seems like a lifetime ago now, we evidently got a bit shafted with the DGW postponment having brought in Saka and Aubameyang (as captain) specifically for it, and having held onto KDB too. We’ll spare you the horror story of the rest but other than Salah getting a goal we didn’t have a single other player score above 3 points. And we had some good players, with decent fixtures. When your luck is out and all that… It looks like it meant quite a fall in the rankings too, in fact we managed to double our rank from about 82k to 164,492nd.
Onto the two article titles then..
GWX
No, this wasn’t a typo. It’s more because we have no idea when the season will restart, of course, but also less of an idea how. The fact that FPL Towers decided that we could keep making transfers throughout this ‘hiatus’ seemed to be because they presumed it would restart at a later GW. Which now looks less than likely. What is perhaps now more probable is that (if anything) there will be some sort of crammed in mini-tournament style period of about 6 weeks where they will attempt to finish the season. Re-starting at the GW30 cut-off seems the most likely scenario. How FPL deals with that is another matter, given their above stance. Will they simply reset us and ask us to forget all the interim transfers? Anything is possible. But for now we have been asked to crack on regardless, and so we have…
‘Oh, bollocks’, etc
This is a reference to our lack of a recent article. The reality is that we did intend to do one prior to GW31 and we did indeed have a meeting to discuss our phantomtransfers. Only for someone to point out in the midst of said meeting that the deadline had already passed as it was a Friday night one, and not as we all assumed a normal Saturday one! So that was one transfer down the drain. Not that we feel this will matter particularly, as it looks like we will have more than we can possibly use before proceedings get back under way.
And so we sat down in the middle of last week for another meeting… only to discover half way through that one that it was indeed an International Break, as such, and that there was no planned deadline for another week! Pay more attention, we must. Reinstante the Countdown Timer, we have…
Our GW32 Transfer(s)
Crack on regardles, we do. And we have formulated something of a mini-plan. So we thought we would share this with you, for a lack of anything else to actually say at this moment in time!
Bruno Fernandes seems to be our main missing jigsaw piece right now and so we have decided to prioritise him, along with a whole other raft of minor surgeries which we hope shall put our squad in better shape, should this be required as and when To accommodate Bruno this week we have decided to do away with our double Liverpool defence, an idea that was beginning to be in vogue around about GW29…
Beyond this we are looking at something like Saka to Mount and possibly Ings to DCL, but we shall see.
To confirm then we have SOLD Andy Robertson & James Maddison and BOUGHT Aaron Wan-Bissaka & Bruno Fernandes
Captain – Boris Johnson
Our GWX team in full…

Heres one:- Against which team did Liverpool first wear their all red strip for the first time ? Clue:- 1964.
Another clue :- it was a midweek game.
European game?
if so – Benelux country or other?
Yes. Why don’t you cut out most of Europe. :big-lol:
Why not cut to the chase? Europe’s a big place. Time is not limitless.
Ajax then or, nostalgically, Club Brugge?
No.
PSV Eindhoven or Genk?
Nope.
Not many more I can think of:
Feyenoord, then, or Anderlecht?
Please say yes, Elleffcee. Even if I’m wrong.
Anderlect.
I hope it was as good for you as it was for me.
I can assure readers that despite our intimacy no money was exchanged; and E and I adhered impeccably to social distancing recommendations.
A few quick quiz questions.
1) The term hat-trick first appeared in which sport?
2) How many hat-tricks did Christiano Ronaldo score for Manchester United?
3) Dion Dublin scored a hat-trick for Coventry vs Chelsea in which year? He went on to be premier league joint top scorer that season.
1) Cricket may be? I know its a very old sport(even officially).
2) Not sure, but may be 1-3? He was not a striker.
3) NA
Cricket is correct.
Back in 1858. The crowd was so impressed with 3 wickets in 3 balls they held a collection and bought the bowler a new hat.
(1) Must be cricket, I guess
(2) 1 might be max 2
(3) This must be late 90s, can’t remember exactly
Indeed 1 hatrick only.
3) 97
Correct.
Pep Guardiola’s mother has died of corona virus.
Heard that. Very sad news..
Hi there my FF247 comrades.
Despite almost losing hope in fpl coming back, I still have this question to the site team: what are your future thoughts regarding the benched goalie-Button?
I’m tempted to go for a combo of Pope and McCarthy. Cheap and both play, ready to bench boost whenever that may be.
McCarthy because he’s cheap and either Pope or Leno I guess
Iv’e just done Button to McCarthy purely for the BB!
What are peoples thoughts on the FA cup and short game weeks. If the league resumes will the FA cup be as well? Will we still have short GW or do we think the cup gets abandoned to allow the league to finish?
Guessing it gets abandoned but I’m not convinced by the season in general gets played
It’s probably a choice between an ultra long season end plus new season all in a row crammed in with no winter break with complaints about player welfare or losing
a significant amount of money.
I also wonder if next season starts late to allow this one to finish if the cups are abandoned next year.
Could be, they will be doing everything they can to save the season, so anything is on the table I believe… It’s a matter of creativeness I think
Just out of curiosity what is the word in the UK about next season? I keep hearing that they are doing everything to get back on the pitch, but what happens when the coronavirus comes back in the winter, assuming there is still no vaccine by then, aren’t we likely to have delays next season also? Probably not as bad this one is turning out to be as there will probably be a vaccine at some point, but trying to sneak this season in could lead to having two seasons that are not played out fully instead of just one.
Hi Mito, hope you are well. We have no idea, in short. Depends largely on their ability to get this one done over about a 6 week period in around June.
There will be an effective vaccine by next winter but of course that depends on the current virus not mutating.
It does however force the spotlight a bit on how little wiggle room we always leave anyway. When you’re struggling to fit the odd Man City game in on the first place you probably know we are already at a saturation point. Hopefully something gives on the future and their greed is curtailed a bit for something more sensibly workable.
Wonder if next season and the end of this one both start/restart with empty stadiums.
This one almost certainly will.
Think this season is a priority as it’s been played a lot already, if there’s a season that won’t be played out fully it should be the next one instead of this one (this is just my opinion of course)
Why should two seasons be sacrificed in any way to save one. I think they are hoping to complete it in June/July and go straight into next personally which might be possible at a push. The Uk is still in quarantine and the players have been moaning about playing straight away. The clubs today have scaled back training as they don’t know when it will decide so I’m not convinced they finish it
You all see the reports from an Italian who has some ownership in Watford who mentioned to someone that this season was done in the PL?
Is he related to Smash The Negative?
Well I don’t think the moaning of players should have anything to do with anything, they are highly paid professionals who should be able to be ready whenever they are told to be ready.
I’m just saying that if ONE season has to be sacrificed it should be the next one, not this one that’s already been played a lot…
Let’s hope no seasons have to be sacrificed though! Think it’s still too early to say anything with any certainty
I’m such an optimist…
It’s hard to know really. Despite the slightly feverish speculation- mainly media driven – about coming out of the UK’s chilled out lockdown, we’ve left behind a world and it’s hard to imagine the light will be switched back on that easily. I can’t imagine the FA Cup will be high priority as / when we get going again.
In some way I’d rather they just voided 19/20 or leave it as is, with the final standings being what they are now.
Maybe they will agree a definite cut-off point, e.g. if we can’t get the season restarted by whenever in June then that’s that.
As Inittowinit sort of sez, we’re not out of the woods until there’s
herd immunitya vaccine. Not being a man of science I have no idea when that will be. Again a new report or paper is splashed pretty much each day. Trials ongoing, one reads. And before then life will resume but in an economically depressed state. There are over 100 different research teams/vaccines going on out there, it’s a numbers game and at least that’s not a hopelessly small number, we just have to hope one of those hundred or so will come good, I believe they already had a trial on volunteers (rather brave people as if it doesn’t work it can actually make the syptoms even worse, or so I’ve read) in Seattle, although I have no idea how long it will take to be “safe” for the whole population, and no doubt that will take months still, but at least it seems they’re trying their asses off (not unlikely because there will be huge rewards for those who actually get it done)…
100, eh. Sounds like it needs its own graph – vaccine trials started. Rolling average.
Could go with a couple of other graphs: government excuses today, or if you sit on the fence then government platitudes today, or if you like the government then government reassurances today etc.
Unfortunately even when you have a vaccine, production on scale takes significant time. Herd immunity may still the direction of travel.
Yes, that’s very true of course, although one one knows yet how long one stays immune to covid19 once you’ve had it, so the herd immunity is, also, yet a bit of an unknown… In case of SARS, for instance, I think the immunity didn’t last very long, hopefully I’m wrong!
*no one knows
