FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GWX

Oh b*llocks, is it?!

Welcome to FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team GWX. No, this isn’t an April Fools Day joke, we are actually publishing a Site Team article! Why? Well, because we meant to do one two weeks ago, and then again last week also, but we didn’t, for reasons which we shall expand on later. Perhaps also it is because we are a bit bored, and simply not used to having a break. But also it is to remind you of a few key FPL related things, which may have slipped your mind, understandably.

We shall however begin with an update of our GW29 performance, at least for some semblence of normality, if nothing else. Looking back at it, into what seems like a lifetime ago now, we evidently got a bit shafted with the DGW postponment having brought in Saka and Aubameyang (as captain) specifically for it, and having held onto KDB too. We’ll spare you the horror story of the rest but other than Salah getting a goal we didn’t have a single other player score above 3 points. And we had some good players, with decent fixtures. When your luck is out and all that… It looks like it meant quite a fall in the rankings too, in fact we managed to double our rank from about 82k to 164,492nd.

Onto the two article titles then..

GWX
No, this wasn’t a typo. It’s more because we have no idea when the season will restart, of course, but also less of an idea how. The fact that FPL Towers decided that we could keep making transfers throughout this ‘hiatus’ seemed to be because they presumed it would restart at a later GW. Which now looks less than likely. What is perhaps now more probable is that (if anything) there will be some sort of crammed in mini-tournament style period of about 6 weeks where they will attempt to finish the season. Re-starting at the GW30 cut-off seems the most likely scenario. How FPL deals with that is another matter, given their above stance. Will they simply reset us and ask us to forget all the interim transfers? Anything is possible. But for now we have been asked to crack on regardless, and so we have…

‘Oh, bollocks’, etc
This is a reference to our lack of a recent article. The reality is that we did intend to do one prior to GW31 and we did indeed have a meeting to discuss our phantomtransfers. Only for someone to point out in the midst of said meeting that the deadline had already passed as it was a Friday night one, and not as we all assumed a normal Saturday one! So that was one transfer down the drain. Not that we feel this will matter particularly, as it looks like we will have more than we can possibly use before proceedings get back under way.

And so we sat down in the middle of last week for another meeting… only to discover half way through that one that it was indeed an International Break, as such, and that there was no planned deadline for another week! Pay more attention, we must. Reinstante the Countdown Timer, we have…

Our GW32 Transfer(s)
Crack on regardles, we do. And we have formulated something of a mini-plan. So we thought we would share this with you, for a lack of anything else to actually say at this moment in time!

Bruno Fernandes seems to be our main missing jigsaw piece right now and so we have decided to prioritise him, along with a whole other raft of minor surgeries which we hope shall put our squad in better shape, should this be required as and when To accommodate Bruno this week we have decided to do away with our double Liverpool defence, an idea that was beginning to be in vogue around about GW29…

Beyond this we are looking at something like Saka to Mount and possibly Ings to DCL, but we shall see.

To confirm then we have SOLD Andy Robertson & James Maddison and BOUGHT Aaron Wan-Bissaka & Bruno Fernandes

Captain – Boris Johnson

Hey everybody – Happy Easter, Pesach/Seder, beginning of Ramadan, and many more such celebrations occuring at this time.

Hope you are all well – being cooped up can do funny things to a person, but haven’t been adversely affected (apparently smile ), so here’s hoping it lasts. My heart goes out to all those people in the world who ARE in a difficult position, be it the virus, economic woes, illness or natural disaster. One feels so helpless, but perhaps no more so than usual; we are perhaps more aware of other people’s sufferings now.
ANyway, I wanted this to be a message of goodwill, friendship and optimism more than anything !!! smile
All my best to you all,
    AJW (the Pope of rambling!)

It does indeed AJW. You find out lots of things about people in such times, including yourself.

Hope you are well my friend.

      Thank you so much AJW.
Ramadan [Fasting season for Muslims] is about 2 wks in advance, It’s a month of small/big family gatherings but God knows how it will look this year.
Greetings to all of you folks from Sudan. Hope you all the best.

      • AJW says:

Hey MHD – good luck for Ramadan. I guess your nightly get togethers will be much smaller – just immediate family groups, but I think the joy of having achieved it in such circumstances will make it a special edition. I’ve always admired the spirit and togetherness that Ramadan instills in people participating, and I know that it’s a period of reflection, and of doing good for others. Good luck and keep safe – especially since you are in the medical profession. Bye for now. smile

Happy Easter, Seder, etal to all. Hope all is well with all. Can’t complain here in Florida. Stopped playing golf since it is no fun with all the restrictions. Weather is good for sitting outside and watching the world go by. Situated by a retention pond & a couple of farms so the view is good. Not much traffic here in a retirement village (with 100K+ people).

      AJW says:

Hahaha! Good on you Mosc. Isn’t it always good weather in Florida for sitting, watching the world go by? Hope you are well. We’re all sort of waiting for live sport to return, but I wonder whether we haven’t rediscovered some other worthwhile pursuits? I’ve taken to digging, gardening and rearranging gravel, as well as cooking, exercising, working and touching base with my partner. It’s like we’re going through a period of lying fallow. Anyway, can’t get too philosophical as am typing this on my phone without glasses! Take care! Can’t wait for the season to start again though! smile

      • I tried to kill a man with my bare hands in Sainsbury’s yesterday only for the staff (on whose behalf I was intervening) stopping me doing so. Can that be classed as a new pastime? smile

        • AJW says:

Definitely Initt! Sounds like a sort of like real-life UFC (or whatever it’s called!). You could be the new masked hero of this sport! Although the Everton jersey sort of gives it away!
Were you standing up against some jerk who was being totally unreasonable? smile

        • He was deliberately harassing the staff and deliberately flouncing the social distancing rules. It was a relatively young team in charge at that point too and they looked a bit lost as to what to do about him. Let’s just say I helped. And then cracked on with my shopping as if nothing had happened. I was however still shaking when I got home. Adrenaline I guess.

As I say though, you learn new things about even yourself in such odd times I’m not aggressive normally, far from it, but I was then. Sort of shocked me but looking back I was just sticking up for everyone else in the vicinity.

I wouldn’t call it a pastime and I’d certainly handle it better if it happened again but we live and learn.

        • Kralin says:

I’m channeling that sort of thing via a reckless declaration of unconditional war on the (many) dandelions in my lawn.

But of course the dandelions are winning and I suspect it may go into spasm war at any moment.

      • AJW says:

Reading back my first entry, I’m sorry to everyone for sounding like a spoilt middle-aged western brat. I realize that there are also a helluva lot of people in this world who are suffering extreme conditions at the moment. Didn’t want to sound callous, but rather good-natured! Keep well all! smile

        • Kralin says:

Don’t know about you but I feel I’m living in about five overlapping realities at the moment.

        • AJW says:

Yes 5 or 6 different planes seems about par for the course.. I’ve actually become very quiet (except eruptions of the real AJW when I might start singing a rendition of Do You Know the Muffin Man around the house – which is always very dignified for a young fellow in his early 50s!). They are all coping mechanisms I suppose. We’ll pull out of it all, but as you said it won’t all be as it was beforehand will it. Keep à steady course Kralin. Bye for now. smile

      • mosc1938 says:

It also gives me time to get back to my stamp collection. Too many stamps but not enough time before. The down time affords the chance to catch up. Hope all is well with your & yours.

Enjoy the view Mosc, thanks for checking in and hope you are well, stay safe.

Hey up all, hope everyone is well. Its not a good time at the moment to go on the rob but i’ve found solace with a chainsaw. Oh and i absolutely hate gardening by the way.

Hoping everyone is managing to cope in these testing times and are keeping their spirits up!

Quick question, who is the cheapest playing keeper?

    Hello all.
Hope everyone’s keeping a distance and keeping safe. Can’t wait for football to get back to normal.
FPL wise- who’s the best sub 5.8 mil striker option ?

    AJW says:

A very sad event – Tim Brooke-Taylor’s passing.
Grew up on The Goodies in the 70s – one of the real gems of English TV. Made me quite sad – they were brilliant – wonderful social commentaries masked as humour (the episode about South Africa was amazing).

      Kralin says:

I was very sad to hear that news as well. I was too young to appreciate The Goodies at the level you were able to – I remember them being on but only the very silly bits – and they seem very much locked into and part of the 1970s. But I heard him enough on the radio (and Graeme Garden).

I did see him once but was too shy to say anything to him. I wish I had.

      • AJW says:

Surely you flatter me Kralin – for I watched between the ages of 11-18, and probably only developed critical appreciation in late teens. Over time, one thinks back with the mind of a more mature human being (also aided by an English/History teacher who approved of the show, which made it seem more acceptable to like), appreciating the subtleties midst the silliness ! Cheerio and hope you are well. How is the war ‘gainst the dandelions progressing? You know they’ll send more troops in a counter offensive on another front, sooner rather than later! (Rule no. 1 = dandelions rule, ok? Sort of living proof, in a fairly frustrating way, of the Wordsworthian view on nature, i.e. Trying to tame it is a vain preoccupation! Nature will always come back on us, to show that it cannot be bent in some vulgar way that mankind wishes it to be fashioned. smile

        • Kralin says:

The first battle is lost I’m afraid – it’s turned into a rout and I’m in danger of being cut down by their cavalry as I flee the battlefield (in tears). I may be able to lay an ambush or two, start a resistance movement, thin their numbers that way.

Indeed re nature. There’s a good Horizon on the Beeb at the moment that spells things out very clearly about the current crisis.
