FF247 FPL Team GW14
Welcome to FF247 FPL Team GW14
Lattes all round
Look up the word mediocre in a picture dictionary and you’ll find one of our team from GW13… at least there was none of the mayhem of recent game-weeks and we actually captained whom we said we would captain.
You know things haven’t gone well when your defence is the star of the show! Up top, our forwards combined for a grand total of 9pts. Our midfield trio weighed in with a staggering 13pts, which included our captain KdB and new signing Jack Grealish. At the back, Coufal picked up a clean sheet and two baps, Targett a clean sheet, Chilwell an assist and a bap. Dann (who came off the bench for Mahrez) and McCarthy should just go play in midfield or up top.
All this saw us score a whopping 46pts, four above the average which allowed us to register back to back clean sheets for the first time since GW5, and we now sit in 1,627,496th place.
That’s enough about GW13. It’s time to get serious, we have two free transfers burning a hole in someone’s pocket and we now have BGW18 and DGW19 to build towards. With that in mind, it’s over to the committee…
Our GW13 Result…
Let’s go see what was decided this week with our 2 free transfers and £0.4m spare.
Our GW14 Transfer(s)
It all started off in quite a sedate manner…
Kop opened the meeting by asking if anyone had any thoughts on transfers. Init responded with an extremely sensible suggestion of replacing with Kilman with a Leicester defender with DGW19 in mind. The next thing you know, Cookie barrels into the office and suggests selling Vardy & Mahrez for Salah & Bamford. I think he’d been on the mulled wine! Cookie’s Colombian partner in crime then weighs in with support and starts waffling on about tea & latte. Unsurprisingly, Floydeth is also in favour of these moves. Cookie only needed one more vote to make this happen… surely it couldn’t?
The next thing you know, Init, GP & Kop are on board. It’s really happening. Cookie & Mito have finally gotten one over the line. As GP said, “This season is batshit nuts”.
Just a word on the blank and double GW’s in 18 & 19, given as we touched on them above. Having ran through a number of scenarios the consensus at the moment seems to be that we will play our Free Hit Chip in 18 and possibly our Bench Boost Chip in 19. This means building a squad between now and then to do so. Which rather flies in the face of our eventual transfer decision this week! But we can’t just put everything into 19 as we also need to score points in 14. And 15. And 16. And…. you get the point.
To confirm then we have SOLD Riyadh Mahrez & Jamie Vardy and BOUGHT Mo Salah & Patrick Bamford
Captain – Harry Kane
Unlike last week, our captain decision was not a unanimous decision. Kane took the vote by 3 to 2 over Salah. It goes without saying that our vice-captain will be Salah.

I really like that this year you’re giving more information about the secret brainstormings from you FPL masterminds that happen behind the curtains. I just love to read them
On my side it’s a bit more boring, I transferred out Meslier to Martinez.
Which makes me think I’ll likely build my team towards GW18 (without sacrificing a lot) and free hit in GW19.
It seems that most people are thinking the other way around?
Depends on current squad structure. I have more gw19 players so building towards gw19. Also would prefer to carry gw19 players into gw20 rather than gw18.
I can see some sense in the free hit in 18 but suspect it may be better employed in 19. Or the boost in 19. But as ever there are various schools of thought emerging. I’m planning to start chewing over all that when pondering the wildcard – which I’m going to have to get my skates on and play before too long.
It would take an almost psychotic level of planning (and luck) to manage 18 and 19 without any chips at all – but I daresay some hidden away sect is working on such a plan now.
I’m keeping my options open. Bench Boost in GW19 seems reasonable… But it means a transfer on getting your reserve keeper to somone who players and then living with 2 keepers or using another transfer to get rid.
Hmmm… ‘brainstormings’ and ‘FPL masterminds’………..
I’m determined one day to simply screenshot the entire WhatsApp convo onto an article and leave it at that. Such words would never be uttered again! ‘Asylum’, ‘fraudsters’ and ‘jail’ may be though :hippo:
I better get a lawyer.
Keep the FT or move Lamptey for Chelsea cover aka Reece James?
SK, why would you waste a transfer removing Lamptey? He will start and Brighton have a chance of a CS in this one. Knowing Lamptey, he might even have the odd chance of something extra.
Stick and roll, 2 FT for Boxing Day will be much appreciated, being winter and injures are all over 😉
Any excuse to use a FT Ivan, I think I’ll bank it and hope Stones plays.
SK remember, it’s this time of the year. We all going to lose a player here, and there as rotations are in full force.
Still, think 2 FT for the next GW gives you are better stand.
Save FT.
Thanks GP, here’s hoping for some bounce after last week.
Yeah, I’d save the FT – I can see Lamptey starting
Ok, i dont know what to do!!!
I was going to bring in Martinez as suggested on a previous thread, but I cant as I already have 3 Villa players – forgot I had Nyland – the non-playing, no longer at Villa player!!!
Worth doing any other transfers and risking Ryan playing?
ftx1 – itb: 2.1
You could pay the cash and get the best GK in the game. Nick Pope is grabbing every bonus point that is not nailed down, has a smashing run of games including a double in 19 and his first choice defence in front of him now.
For GW18, you play without a keeper of if you are on FH, grab the order of the day.
GP – i will be wildcarding once boxing day games start, so will build my team for the GW19
Just need to get myself through the next 2 game weeks.
If I go Ryan->Pope, is it worth losing 4 to swap out Kilman, or stick with what I have?
I think that defence would get you through this weekend.
so no need to do a -4 and ditch Kilman?
I don’t think so.
hammer – is wc a necessity?
you have enough transfer weeks to build to dgw 19
you have 1 ft. Get Pope for Ryan this week (kills two birds – sorts a questionable playing time player and gets you a form dgw player. You could also look to Salah for Sterling (another in better form dgw player) and you still have a few gws to sort out your bench
one last question, promise.
Would you do:
Ryan->Pope
or
Nyland->Pope
and play Ryan if I went with the 2nd option (just in case he played), or just go with the 1st option and play Pope?
Based on this I would do Ryan to Pope.
Thanks GP – much appreciated. Kilman is a pain as he hasnt played lately, but getting to the stage where every point counts in my ML.
TheDreamers – maybe not, but by using the WC, I can get players in earlier, and sort out the dross quicker
gives me food for thought over the next week or so
I have an idea here but not sure if it’s the right one. 2FT, £0.2m itb.
Simple Kilman to Taylor?
Think I have to prep a DGW19 team, and FH BGW18, so Burnley have good fixtures and a DGW, albeit a very bad one.
Can do Mahrez and Cancelo to Son and £4.5 but think Mahrez starts at the weekend so using both FT can wait.
Any other thoughts??
Beanie,
That seems a good transfer to me. I’d do it.
I’m also a Mahrez owner who is very wary to sell – he may even play the next two now that he’s had his rest. Hardly as if City had a great result without him is it?
Was begging for him to come on against WBA. KDB is more threatening with him as well. Sense they’re really missing Silva this season.
Will do that then.
Did Silva play much last season? Seemed to be on the bench a lot to me with the preferred 3 being KDB, Gundogan and Rodri
Thinking of going with this and also DCL for cappo, Everton can beat Arsenal at home can’t they?
I have gone with DCL as i think he has more chance than Kane and Salah but am only saying this because he is home, Salah could easily score against Palace but they have been playing pretty well and Spurs will not be happy about Liverpool game and not all is well at Leicester but then it’s who between Son and Kane, so it is who is likely to score more than one?
Terminator, we all know that Everton will beat Arsenal regardless if they were at home or away with their current form (no offence to their supporters, but it is atrocious at the minute ). Other option is Kane as well, just saying.
They certainly can and it did briefly cross my mind to do so too. Although I quickly dismissed it as we have to go for premium players only as Captain don’t we? Or do we…
Or Bruno as Ivan calls them all
Init, stop it. I still can’t decide between Kane and Bruno.
Will sleep on it and see…
Watch DCL comes back with a hatty in the meantime
I dont see DCL as captain material – might be one of my blind spots though
What do we make of these Salah rumours?
