FF247 Site Team Game-week 5 FPL Tips
Welcome to the FF247 Site Team Game-week 5 FPL Tips article. Well, that was fun while it lasted. Our rank took a proper beating last week unfortunately, so thank gawd our transfer of Costa worked otherwise we’d be in deep poo poo. We scored just 38pts in GW4 vs an average of 43, which saw us fall from a rank of 22,450 down to 78,944. There are very few highlights for us to be brag about – Costa was clearly the best performer with his 12pt return from a Sunday in Wales, while Baines chipped in with a clean sheet and two baps on Monday night at Sunderland. Zlatan was the only other performer who managed to notch more than 2pts as the Swede scored his customary goal in the derby but blotted his copybook with a reckless yellow card. Pape Souare was so desperate to get out of our team (or Pardew’s) that he smashed up his car on the M4 and looks to be missing for a while. So, much to ponder for this week.
TRANSFER DECISION THIS WEEK
Sometimes in FPL your transfer stares in you in the face, it’s an easy call, you do it and walk away happy. Other times you look and see so many combinations and possibilities that it actually seems impossible to pick the right one. The latter was where we ended up this week. The reason for this was that we had not only £4.0m in the bank (£3.0m of that being Kun money) but also 2 FT’s to play with and the possibility of a wildcard to utilise at some point.
We had that many possible scenarios and suggestions floating around that we had to strip it back to the basics and these were our realistic options this week –
Using just one transfer
– Sell Gray for a one week punt on Iheanacho
This would leave us with enough next week to swap both him and Costa for Kun and possibly Benteke depending on price changes.
– Sell Souare for someone.
We never got as far as discussing who!
Using two transfers
– Sell Costa and Gray for some combo of Kane / Lukaku / Iheanacho
This was dependant on then wildcarding next week and the theory was that we could just do anything this week really given that the Kun money was up for grabs and wouldn’t matter. Basically the fun option!
Eventually it was decided that a WC wasn’t really necessary at this stage for us and also the one Liverpool fan we have on the panel insisted that we keep Costa because he was adamant he would score against them! And on that we couldn’t really disagree. And so we went back to the one transfer option and Iheanacho won the vote given the limited options at that price range and staying within our allocated ‘Kun fund budget’. He is purely a one week punt and we wouldn’t recommend people follow suit unless you have a clear exit strategy like we do – 2 FT’s next week with the intention of selling him for Kun along with another move. And having the funds to do so.
Our transfer this week – Sell Gray, Buy Iheanacho
THE TEAM IN FULL FOR GW5 –
Our captain is Zlatan Ibrahimovic and our vice-captain is Kelechi Iheanacho
Now that took some spelling! It also took a good deal of work arriving at the decision too. Full disclosure here we were about 2 minutes away from a vote deadline and young Kelechi had it in his grasp. And then America woke up! A certain fantasy manager from across the pond had fallen asleep at the wheel of his lawn mower but woke up in a start at the sound of a hundred WhatsApp messages and as he wiped the sleep from his eyes he then lazily typed ‘Ibra’ and that was that, Zlatan had his majority. Hey, what can you do, said manager is after all on the verge of finishing 2nd in MLS for the 2nd year running so we do kind of have to listen to his wisdom sometimes.
Given our rank thus far it probably isn’t the worst decision to stick with the pack and given that Zlatan’s ownership is so high and that one would expect a good majority to go with him this week as captain then if he was to get a good haul it would do us a fair bit of damage. On the other hand the thinking with the complete differential was probably all about how much ground we would make up if he nailed it. It’s a fine balance. Let’s hope we got it right or the lawnmower man may be getting some stick!
If anyone is interested in following the site teams progress then you can do so here and we wish you all the best of luck this week with your own teams.
What do we thk off double Ars cover at back after this GW ????
I don’t usually like doubling up in defence because one 90 minute fluke of a goal can cost you 10 points but if you are thinking Bellerin and Cech then maybe that could work.
Not for this week, probably starting GW7.
General random question, what do folks think of the ‘taking a hit for points’ strategy. Its basically gambling points but I have a lot of friends who do this regularly and it pays off big for them. Just risky I guess?
It pays off when they get it right, which is probably when you hear it about, they’re probably a bit quieter about the other occasions! It’s not a strategy I adhere to myself but if it’s very calculated and for something ‘obvious’ like say it means you getting in a big player with a good fixture rather than sitting on someone with a poor one then yes I’d consider it.
Oooh wait, I completely forgot. There is a game tonight. OMG!
It’s okay monkeys can forget sometimes
Wildcard team after GW5, first draft. Looking good?
Rashford should be a starter, after his display versus City.
Raz
Get Ibrahimovic definitely. I don’t think Mourinho has 100% faith in Rashford.
Hmmm, headache. Don’t know how to get Hazard/Sanchez/Ibra/Kun.
Taking a big chance on Rashford there Raz – you have admitted it yourself as per your comment above! Makes for a nice midfield though, I’ll give you that.
Double Stoke at the back?
Stoke have really easy fixtures coming up. Plus I like Pieters attacking potential.
Easy fixtures but no form…….Hughes is very confident their luck will change soon though, so you could be onto something.
anyone else using there WC after tonight ???
Me and Raz 😛
As Raz has posdted I am posting mine too. Wc’ing next week so here’s my first draft. I know I have no Chelse cover but I haven’t been much impressed by them, have been lucky and have hard fixtures coming up. Much depends on tonights game against Pool which will give idea though they are poor at back
Snookie, in all honesty I am struggling to justify 3 expensive strikers – just don’t like what it does to your midfield. Strikers like Gray, Benteke, Bony, Deeney etc etc offer decent value in my opinion. Of course that leaves the headache of which 2 strikers to own and means going without some big names……
Hi Snookie,
You need Hazard there mate.
:smiling:
Well that’s only first draft so thanks for suggestions
