Our 2023/24 Overall Rank and Recent History

This time last year I was writing about how our 2022/23 season did not go to plan and how we finished just inside the 300k mark – we weren’t happy about it and boy, did we improve! We not only got back to a 5 digit rank but we had our best ever season and rank by finishing a fantastic 4,238.

That is our 3rd time with a four digit finish so hopefully we can emulate that this season and go for our first three digit finish! We won’t get greedy and ask for top spot just yet!

Initial set up

Let’s tell you a bit about how we went about selecting our team. We started off simple – by owning all the players we wanted and not even looking at prices. The team was stacked! Palmer, Salah, Saka, Haaland, Watkins, Isak, Gvardiol – what a team! We then realised we might get pull aside by FFP rules because we were way in the negatives. We had to make a sacrifice somewhere.

Here comes Diogoal and Trent! They made Salah the obvious sacrificial lamb on our expensive set up. Out went the Egyptian Pharoah so we could get a team that would actually fit the budget.

Everything was set and we were happy. About to sit back and watch the deadline pass but a last minute change was called for. It was voted for Watkins to Solanke due to the older Englishman having had no minutes in preseason. We debated then what to do with the 1.5 surplus left over and it was decided to upgrade Smith-Rowe to Eze. So in came the main Crystal Palace man.

The Line-Up

Everything kind of explains itself here. The bench is filled with our budget options. Barco and Bergvall are there for their potential and hopefully they get some price rises and points from the bench if needed but we don’t think they will be with the XI we have set out. The one 4.5 defender that will be rotated in and out is American, Robinson. Probably the toughest of the defensive fixtures so he is on the bench and ready to come on if needed.

Captain – Isak

Pretty straight forward and no debate on this one. A fantastic striker coming up against a newly promoted side. What’s not to like?

PREDICTED LINE-UPS

Back by popular demand! Well, sort of… Drafthound have changed their line-up approach this season and what it means for us is that we are no longer able to display a live feed of it on here due to some technical difficulties. That said, what they have done looks great and is still only a click away so if you want to access those they are HERE

Come and check out how the Site Team is being set up for GW1. We got our best finish last season so here’s hoping we continue that!

Great team, and obviously you guys are gurus at this!!

Have you considered Jota, Palmer and Eze to Salah, Nkunku and ESR (gices you 0.5m in the bank). Gets your a solid Liverpool option, Nkunku will probably play the role Palmer likes to move into and ESR with a fresh lease on life while being able to upgrade elsewhere

      • MattX says:

We did have ESR and Salah and did discuss Nkunku but the votes swung everything the way of what we have uploaded. Lots of good options. Hopefully we’ve chosen the right one haha

First game of the season is so tough to predict as there are so many similar options and plans. Guess the team knows more than the individual

Great to have the Premier League and FPL back

Interesting site team selection for GW1 – it’s a bit template, but I’ll forgive you. Here’s my team… (gone Salah over Haaland as I think there’s more value on spreading the Haaland funds!)

Not sure why your predicted line-up for Arsenal has White at CB and Partey at RB though, surely it’ll be White – Saliba – Gabriel – Zinchenko?

Just seen the comment about technical issues with the predicted line-ups, my apologies!

Yeah the image is just a screenshot but if you click the HERE link, it will bring you to the Drafthound site.

Now I’ll RMT. I like the team. No Haaland is brave but like you say the things you can do with the extra funds is brilliant. Saka and Salah could be a great duo

      • IanDouglas says:

When you look at the points Haaland can get you for 15m, that money plus a 4.5m player is equal to two premium players (e.g. Saka and Foden or Palmer and Fernandes or Son and De Bruyne)

I’m nervous about going without Haaland, but I can’t Captain Salah AND Haaland, so when push comes to shove, I’d rather have two premiums for the price of one, when you consider the potential returns.

Again, if you look at last season, unless Haaland goes on an absolute madness and the other premiums struggle, you’re more likely to have a higher points total by maximising the number of premiums you have in your squad, rather than investing it in one or two extremely high value players. (I also think the value is in the midfield, based on the total points players acquire across the entire season. Though there are some very good 7.5-9.0m forward options this year!)

Long-term, I’m even considering no Haaland and no Salah if that enables me to have the likes of Son, Foden, Saka, Nkunku, Gordon/Jota, Isak, and Watkins, plus a couple of premium defenders…

        Something like this…

Yeah you’re totally right. I have been going back and forth on this debate for weeks and just settled on it’s easier to start with them both and downgrade than missing out on one of them and scrambling to try get them in as that will be much harder. Whatever way I choose will be the wrong one that’s for sure haha

        • Reg83 says:

Good analysis but i am starting the season with Haaland as the fixtures look too tempting. After few gws will check if 15m is worth it. Not getting Salah hoping Jota can cover and think Salah isn’t as strong as 2-3 yrs ago and not sure how Liverpool play under new manager.

What’s the rationale behind either Mykolenko/Robinson over Quansah?

Hows this looking? Any changes youd suggest? Currently thinking Dunk> Barco & Winks > Rogers

Thanks for the write up – GW1 team is looking solid.

Here my lot. Is TAA worth the extra cost or should I downgrade to other pool cover and upgrade a 4.0 defender?
