FPL Captain Picks GW13
Welcome to FPL Captain Picks GW13
Salah’s on fire, Haaland’s owners are terrified!!! (to the tune of the new football anthem Freed from Desire).
Congratulations to those managers who had the foresight to include both Salah and Haaland in your team from the start of the season.
A massive congratulations to those managers who had the bravery to transfer out the short-circuiting Robot for the Egyptian King.
Commiserations to those managers (me, Jamie, included) who have persevered with Haaland and hoped that Salah would not continue his multi weeks point hauls.
With Liverpool playing Manchester City this weekend then there is no doubt that those managers who own Salah will be keeping the captain’s armband on him and those managers who own Haaland keeping the captain’s armband on him as the FOMO just in case he finally returns to goalscoring form.
But for those managers who are scunnered with mis-firing Haaland / Manchester City then who could you be considering for the captain’s armband…
Jamie Mc — Cunha v Bournemouth (H)
I present for your consideration Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Santos Carneiro Da Cunha to give him his full name.
When making a transfer and for those managers who look at the future run of fixtures rather than the current game week fixture then we should all have been well aware of Wolves favourable run of fixtures from game week nine to game week seventeen.
Cunha (£6.9m & 16.3% ownership) has scored four goals, provided three assists, gained ten bonus points, and amassed forty-three points over the last four game weeks.
Cunha is currently the second highest points scorer for all forwards in the game.
Cunha has already had a £0.1m price increase this game week with according to FPL Statistics; Cunha is at the time of writing sitting at 98.2% requiring a further 2,889 transfers for a further £0.1m price increase.
Wolves have Bournemouth (H), Everton (A), West Ham United (A), Ipswich Town (H) & Leicester City (A) over the next five game weeks up until Boxing Day. All five of Wolves above mentioned opponents have a Fixture Difficulty Ranking of Two.
I hope that the above-mentioned information is sufficient for you to seriously consider someone else rather than the Big Two.
As a non-Salah owner then I might just have the courage of my convictions and go for it; remember that you heard it here first.
Kop – Joao Pedro v Southampton (H)
There is a long-standing FPL myth about choosing your captain from the early kick off, particularly when the early kick off is Saturday lunchtime. For one reason or another this myth has never been attached to a Friday night kick off. Why? It’s probably got something to do with the rarity of such games with fewer managers suffering disappointment on a Friday night.
The Amex will be bouncing on Friday night as high-flying Brighton entertain bottom of the league Southampton.
There’s only one word to describe Southampton and that’s, dire! They’ve taken just four points from their opening 12 games and have the 2nd worst defence in the league, conceding 24 goals. They’ve conceded 75 shots on target over this period. Unsurprisingly they also sit bottom of the current form table.
The Seagulls, on the other hand, are flying. They’re joint 3rd in the table, taking 22pts from a possible 36. They lie 2nd in the current form table.
Since his return from injury in GW11 Joao Pedro has been slowly eased back into the fray. 25 minutes off the bench in GW11 before being replaced after 63 minutes in GW12. That hasn’t stopped him amassing 23pts in this short period, thanks to a goal and an assist in both games as well as maximum bonus points. You’ve got to assume that he’s ready to play the full 90 on Friday night. Southampton beware!
What better way to enjoy a Friday night than watching your captain run riot…
Inittowinit – Salah vs Man City (H)
It’s a horror show, come on down
Horror show, the horse is… red???
I-I-I-I left something in… Manchester???
Now I’m not sure if the horror show is Pep’s face after Tuesday, his (flippant) claim of self harm*, or far less seriously my season so far, sans Salah. Much like Jamie above, I have clung onto Haaland, not wanting to either rip my team apart to get Salah, nor having the bottle to risk an Erling explosion.
Jamie may be correct about that, but pushing Cunha because he is the ‘second highest points scorer for all forwards in the game’ is like claiming that Peter Sutcliffe is your favourite serial killer, when what you really want is serious numbers. In which case I present you the Harold Shipman of FPL… Mo Salah.
To put some context on that, Cunha has got 75 points, 9 less than Haaland. Salah has 118. Let that sink in. Like a sharp nail.
Feyernoord managed 3 on Tuesday, without even really realising they could do so, or certainly expecting to. Liverpool will smell blood, and this could be a massacre.
The confessional…
This is where we ask our entire writing team to tell us who they think they will pick this week… There are more caveats and get out clauses than a meeting with Jake Paul but this is their initial gut feeling based upon who they actually own. And they promise that their picks will be allowed to land a knockout blow, given half a chance…
